Signs, signs…

This is me and my dear daughter-in-law standing in front of a Seattle Sounders Sign at Century Link Field. We enjoy most home games together since we are season ticket holders. This weekend is the season opener and it will be an all girls day at the “Clink”.  My son will be out of town and he offered his ticket to one of my sisters who is a big sports buff and will be visiting us this weekend. My daughter, daughter in law, sister and me will fill our season seats. Now all we need is a win!

I’m happy to say that my illness has not taken the course that Dear’s took and is not as severe. I’ve had two days sitting around doing nothing and today I’ll try to get some errands taken care of. I miss my daily walks but I’ll be able to get back to those soon enough. We had some wild weather yesterday which made it a good day to stay in. My Medicare and supplemental insurance went into effect yesterday so I’m also looking at joining a gym with my Silver Sneakers to try out a Zumba class. Hopefully Zumba class isn’t in front of a mirrored wall! I hope to get some photos of the flowering trees in our neighborhood. So pretty! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Night at the Museum

P1050770On Wednesday night we drove downtown in the rain and wind to Dear’s company Christmas Party which of course they call a Holiday Event. For the next couple months Dear’s company is Dendreon Corporation. They are currently in Chapter 11 proceedings and the company will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on February 4th. In the meantime there are speculations flying around as to what large company might be interested in purchasing Dendreon. Dendreon has a treatment for Prostate Cancer. A very simple explanation about the treatment is that the patient’s own cells are treated to be able to fight the cancer.

10502129_10205489741431214_8961686982131276351_nWe were treated well with good food and drink. There were two signature drinks. Orange for Dendreon and Blue for Provenge, the name of the cancer treatment.

P1050757The party was at the MOHAI in Seattle, Museum of History and Industry. It was a great setting for a private event. Some of my favorite displays at the museum were the following.

P1050759“It is fitting that the Toe Truck will be included in the museum’s eclectic collection of local memorabilia. Built nearly 25 years ago, the Toe Truck became a local landmark for millions of motorists during the more than two decades it was displayed outside the Lincoln Towing yard at Fairview Avenue North and Mercer Street.”

P1050766The Rainier Beer R was a landmark for years just off the Interstate in Seattle. The original 12-foot-high Rainier sign graced the top of the Rainier Brewery from the 1950s until 2000, and now rests restored at MOHAI.

P1050772I was happy to see items from my favorite team amongst the museum sport team memorabilia.

P1050774When we left and were waiting for our car I snapped some photos of the Space Needle. By this time the rain had stopped. We were very happy the company provided free valet parking for the event, too.

More Xmas 006We are choosing joy as we continue to make preparations for the most wonderful time of the year and for all the unknowns of next year!

We have put away Fall decor and we have brought down all our Christmas boxes from the attic. I started full speed ahead on decorating and then I walked into a chair full speed ahead and I think one of my toes is now broken. Oye and bother! Hopefully I’ll be able to walk about better tomorrow. We have a promise of a dry day and we need to go and buy our mystery tree. Have you started your Christmas decorating?

Signs of My Times…

My times these days are filled with a variety of activities that I will share with the following signs.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I show up at the Northshore Senior Center at 9:30 and exercise away with some great seniors who are determined to keep moving. This is something new that I just started in September and it really has been good for me. One of the gentlemen that comes to the class is 93!

I’ve been trying to use the library more and buying less books and DVD’s for our viewing and reading pleasure. This is my library of choice and just today I picked up a Doc Martin DVD to enjoy.

Our church that we’ve been attending for about 3 years now just changed it’s name to Northshore Community Church instead of Northshore Baptist Church. It was a good time for the change since one of the goals of our church is to support and help our community.

I shop at a variety of stores like Costco, Fred Meyer and a local fruit market but Safeway is probably the most convenient place for me to shop and I’m here at least once a week.

I am very proud of our son-in-law and his service in the Marines but this sign on my car also works real well in helping me find my car in a big parking lot with lots of cars that look just like mine.

On this past Monday night we were at the Sounders soccer game against F.C. Dallas and I’m happy to report we are moving on in the playoffs and have two more games in November against L.A. Galaxy. We were all given these signs to hold up after the National Anthem. Fun times.

One of my favorite things at our Sounder games is the singing of our National Anthem. Our Seattle crowd really belts it out and we have a great military branch presence that holds the flag while we sing.

Hope you didn’t get bored seeing the signs of my times. In the future I might post some more that involve my history.

We are experiencing a cold snap here in the Pacific Northwest and today I talked with our son and he had snow at his place in Eastern Washington. The leaves continue to fall and I continue to rake. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

November Photo a Day Challenge

Since I’m having a hard time posting one photo-a-day I’ve decided to post days 2 through 8 of Kati’s photo challenge in one post.  On November 1st I did post the first challenge prompt, my name starts with here.
November 2nd ~ Number
P1050585This is a special number for Dear and I this year. We were married in 1974 so on December 6th we celebrate 40 years of marriage. I thought it was fun that the Seattle Sounders are celebrating their 40th anniversary, too. We celebrated already this year with a trip to England but that won’t stop us from celebrating on the actual day, too.
November 3rd ~ Leaf
mac&cheese 014We had a very blustery, stormy day on Thursday of this week and I tried to catch a leaf falling. I’m glad this one was facing my camera for a second!
November 4th ~ Brown
Alton to Cotswolds 239This photo was taken at the church that was used in Downton Abbey for the weddings. The little town where some of the filming is done is called Bampton and we had a fun quick visit there reliving some of the scenes.
November 5th ~ Cozy
To Windsor 141
November 6th ~ Pumpkin
November 7th ~ Friend
2014-06-25 The Girls
November 8th ~ Table
We woke up to beautiful sunshine today. We had such a blustery day yesterday with a mix of brightness and darkness throughout the day. I managed to to fill a yard waste bin full of leaves in between rain showers. The wind gusts are of course made more leaves fall. Hopefully the dryness will last so we can mow the lawn for the last time till Spring. Looking forward to a weekend at home after being away last weekend.
Have a great weekend y’all!

Signs…

This is my daughter-in-law and me in front of a sign at Century Link Field in Seattle. We are looking forward to some post season games to determine what Major League Soccer Team will win the MLS Cup this year. Go Sounders! We have season tickets and will attend all the playoff games in our city, too. On Monday night we will watch the Seattle Sounders play F.C. Dallas in the 2nd leg of the first round of play…

Signs from England

We saw some great signs when we were in England. Pubs and Inns have some great unique signs.

Broadway Day 7 017

This one really cracked me up…how fresh can Lobster be from Canada to Windsor, England? I suppose it can be flown in the same day but the sign still had me smiling.

Some signs around this old house are that the weather is turning on us. Today we filled a yard waste bin with leaves and it’s really just the beginning of the raking season. We are looking forward to a few more soccer games with the Seattle Sounders and since we came in 1st place overall for our MLS season we are really hoping to be able to be in the final game for the MLS championships. If that’s the case that game will be here in Seattle on December 7th! It would be pretty sweet to celebrate our Seattle Sounders 40th Anniversary year and my 40th wedding anniversary with a MLS championship on the same weekend. Hope you were able to follow that.

We get to spend some quality time with our adult kids this weekend and we’re really looking forward to that. If I’m scarce on the internet you will know why. We will be busy eating fish tacos, tomato rice soup, Swedish Pancakes, my mom’s roolyet and besides eating together we will be shooting at pumpkins and other things…

What are your plans for the weekend?

I’m linking up with Lesley for her Signs, Signs; a weekly meme of interesting, funny, ridiculous and unexplainable signs. In the future I hope to post more unique signs.

Cheers from England ~ Day #10

After today we only have three full days left in England. It’s moving day on Monday again. On this Sunday we had our first bad planning travel day. We traveled to Hereford to see the cathedral and the Chained Library and the Mappa Mundi but alas those rooms/exhibits are closed on Sunday. We were able to walk around the Cathedral so all was not lost.hereford 012We are considering changing our route to Henley-on-Thames on Monday so we can travel back to Hereford to see the Chained Library and Mappa Mundi.

hereford 014Dear is representing the home team jersey in honor of the Seattle Sounders playing the Portland Timbers this evening in Seattle. While in Hereford we walked to the River Wye and crossed the Wye Bridge since we hadn’t seen the river since arriving in Ross-on-Wye and traveling to Hay-on-Wye.

hereford 102This old bridge has some history of it’s own.

hereford 112Heading back to the Spiral Cottage via B4224, a road with a white stripe down the middle, thank you very much, we had to stop at the Bunch of Carrots Inn for a little refreshment.

hereford 008

hereford 121We really have been blessed with some great weather while we’ve been in England. We are in for the evening and we will be watching the World Cup Final game on the telly. Hope your weekend is coming to a good end.

Rain Won’t Stop…

…our parade!

We had a full day of celebrating this past Saturday and we didn’t let the pouring rain dampen our spirits or our celebrating.

sounders-Wilma4The opening game for our Sounders Soccer season was at noon on Saturday. The first thing I noticed as we entered the Club level of the stadium was this great new vendor addition. They really know their team colors. This is good marketing.

sounders-Wilma1Opening the game with the National Anthem and all the branches of the military represented is one of my favorite parts of being at the game instead of watching it from home. Our soccer crowd sings along and it’s great to hear close to 40,000 people singing.

sounders-Wilma3There are lots of creative ideas to get the fans behind the team and to keep us cheering. The blue and green plastic squares were in our cup holders and they had blue sections and green sections and had us all hold up our squares at once. Fun times. At every kickoff the green streamers fly. Our most expensive player, Clint Dempsey, has lots of fans and someone created a Dempseyland banner using Disneyland printing. Fun times.

P1040873We are fortunate to have our season tickets under some cover so the rain does not fall freely on our heads. If the wind picks up we can get some rain blown our way but for the most part we stay dry when others in the stadium get soaked.

Of course it would have been a bummer if after all this we would have lost the game but I’m happy to say we won. It took till the very last minute of the game but we won and we left elated and ready to face the horrible downpour and slick roads home. Once home we got ready for our next fun event.

P1040898Our Laura’s grandmother, Wilma, turned 90 this week and we all got together to celebrate her 90 years at her favorite restaurant.

sounders-WilmaWilma is such a sweet lady and we are so happy to have gotten to know her since Josh and Laura got married.

P1040896Isn’t the cake great?

These two events on the same day really brought a lot of sunshine into my world.

I’m linking up with Sunlit Sunday  at My Little Home and Garden and Mosaic Monday at Little Red House.

What is brightening up your world these days?
