Fences and Signs!

 

This short red, white and blue fence is in the side yard of a house I pass on my way to exercise class.

On our way to Canada last Saturday I spotted these signs.

 

 

We have a few choices for border crossings into Canada in our state of Washington but Sumas is the one we choose when we are traveling to Chilliwack or the center of Abbotsford.

 

This is dairy country!

 

I’ll add one more fence looking out my basement door. It might be time to trim my Japanese Maple.

Signs and Fences…

We are in wedding mode counting down the days to our son’s wedding in June. This sign is hanging in our son’s home. Linking up with Lesley for Signs, signs!

While Dear and I were on Bainbridge Island we saw these fences. Of course I thought of Good Fences and Tex Wis Girl!

We are looking forward to a special event coming up on Saturday. We had to chuckle when Dear’s fortune cookie said “Traveling to the north will bring you unexpected happiness.”

Signs and Fences Main Street Chewelah!

The next time I’m in Chewelah I’m going to stop at this bakery on Main Street. I would have noticed it sooner but it’s on the opposite side of the highway from the stretch we generally travel.

It’s my understanding that this is run by Mennonites. Double my curiosity and desire to stop in the next time I’m in town.

Driving down to the end of Main street we saw this great old house with a nice picket fence around it.

I have recuperated from my weekend trip and am happy to have more low key days and weekends for a while. Spring is amazing here in the Pacific Northwest with so many blooms and so much green!mohai8

Such a random assortment of photos from different times and 3 different states. I’m feeling a bit random myself these days. Here we are in March already. March is my birthday month and it is our daughter and son-in-law’s anniversary month. March is also the spring forward month (this weekend!!). I’m headed to Eastern Washington on Saturday for an overnight trip to go Bridal dress shopping with our future daughter in law. This Sunday is the opening game for the Seattle Sounders Soccer team! March has come in like a lamb this year. What are you looking forward to in March?

Just a short drive away from our home we have a wonderful selection of wineries and tucked into winery row is Redhook Brewery and the Forecasters Pub. Besides the wineries and Redhook there is also a Whiskey distiller. The largest and finest winery in this area is Ste. Michelle Winery.

Dear and I were in the mood for a burger and a brew so we chose Forecasters.

This area is very close to a wonderful bike and walking trail, too.

Signs in Seattle…

Dear and I were able to go downtown on Sunday night to enjoy a belated Valentine dinner at Morton’s. Here are some signs I snapped with my little camera.

From the car window I snapped this blurry 5th Avenue sign as we headed to the freeway.

We thought that downtown Seattle was very busy for a Sunday evening. It was a long weekend and the weather was so nice that people came out of their cocoons to enjoy a night out in the city.

Signs from Whidbey Island

Washington State has a few islands to enjoy. One of our favorites is Whidbey Island. The Bible camp our kids have attended and served as directors at is on Whidbey Island. When we have out of state company we try to include a trip to Whidbey Island. Our favorite town on the island is Langley. The Star store and the Saratoga Inn is in the little town of Langley. We stayed at the Saratoga Inn when we were attending a wedding on Whidbey.

We ate at Gerry’s kitchen in Freeland and had a great breakfast and I’m sad to say that they are now closed. There are a nice little collection of antique shops in this town.

Another town we like to walk through and eat their great Penn Cove Mussels is Coupeville. This visitor information center is in Coupeville. The town’s Main shopping street, Front Street, borders Penn Cove.

I had to include a nice bowl of mussels. We had these at Front Street Grill, Coconut Green Curry Mussels…delicious.

Signs of My Life – #2

This was taken a few years ago when I re-united with a good friend of mine from high school. I graduated from this high school in Southern California in 1968.

I’m flying out on the O-dark-thirty flight to John Wayne Airport in Southern California for a few days with my pop, siblings and nieces and nephews. My family is Russian and this sign that says no to Vodka is part of my upbringing, too. Russian yes, but Vodka no, growing up. Some things stay the same and some things change.

These were all places that were part of my life growing up in Pico Rivera and Montebello.

On Sundays coming home from church we sometimes stopped at 31 Flavors Ice Cream and we were able to choose 3 scoops! That’s was quite a treat for us. In junior high school Currie Ice Cream was across the street and we were able to go off campus and get lunch there if we had 35 cents for a hot dog and chips. The Garmar theater is the first walk in theater that I saw a movie in. Garduno’s was a fast food stand that was a favorite in high school where we had open campus, too, for our lunch time. Good Mexican food and pastrami.

I’ll have lots to share from my family time when I get back home. Hope everyone is doing well.
