The Weekend Roundup “J”

It’s time for the Weekend Roundup and we are on the letter J with the following prompts.

1. Starts with “J.”
2. A Favorite.
3. “J”ump.

Starts with “J”. We named our firstborn Joshua. We call him Josh. His sister called him Foffie when she was little. Others who love him call him Joshie. He is strong and courageous.

He lights up a room whenever he enters and you don’t have to take a mother’s word for it. Friends and associates will tell you the same thing.

A Favorite:

Josh with his niece who loves him and always recognizes him and she even recognizes his favorite jersey, The Sounders jersey. When I wear my Sounders coat she looks at it and says Josh!

Jump: Young and Old jumping, our niece Hope with her grandfather or Dzeda, our Pop in his late 80’s jumping on Hope’s trampoline.

We’ve added a J to our family in 2015, our DIL Jamie. She’s another favorite of ours and is a wonderful mom to our grandchildren and wife to our second born son, Daniel.

Home is where the heart is and all the happy memories we can make and enjoy.

Hello first weekend in November. I’m happy to report my haircut went just fine today. When I went to the register to pay I almost gasped when she said, “that will be $15.00”. In Seattle I pay $60.00. I felt compelled to leave a hefty tip. To be fair, in Seattle I also got a shampoo/conditioning/head massage. The $15.00 was just for the cut and a little curling iron styling. One of the reasons we moved to Colville from the Seattle area was for a lower cost of living. I’m happy to experience this being true.

Weekend Roundup “Q”

Starts with “Q.”

A Favorite.

A “Q”uantity.

Starts with Q: Quail in our back acreage.

A Favorite: I decided to choose a Quote for my favorite since we are on Q.

“Man is more himself, man is more manlike, when joy is the fundamental thing in him, and grief the superficial. Melancholy should be an innocent interlude, a tender and fugitive frame of mind; praise should be the permanent pulsation of the soul. Pessimism is at best an emotional half-holiday; joy is the uproarious labor by which all things live.” ~ G.K. Chesterton

If you’d like to see more of my favorite quotes of the week click here.

Photo: Me having joy in my labors with my new riding lawn mower. We have just under 5 acres to keep under control. Adding a new closeup showing my noise protection on my ears!

A “Q”uantity:

How about a quantity of quail? How many do you see?

A parting shot:

I’m calling our new home Our Country Bungalow. I might add to it and call it Our Country Bungalow at Quail Run.

Happy weekend to all of you.

Weekend Roundup “O”

1. Starts with “O.”
2. A Favorite.
3. “O”pen.

1. Starts with “O.”

The first weekend in October my husband and I traveled down to my home town of Montebello for my 50th high school reunion. Montebello High School is the proud home of the Oilers. “Long ago she rose and stood, Montebello Dear Old High”

2. A Favorite.

Here are our mascots, Ollie the Oiler and Olive the Oiler.

3. “O”pen.

On Saturday last, the gates were opened up to the alumni to take a tour of the grounds. Things have changed including this gate. The whole school is now fenced in so that if need be they can have a total lock down of the school. Fifty years ago there were no fences around the school.

It was good to travel back in time and to enjoy the present, too, with many of my fellow Oilers in October who are now 50 years older.

Make new friends, but keep the old; those are silver, these are gold. ~ Joseph Parry

Weekend Roundup “E”

1. Starts with “E.”

ellen b. with her sister Vera in the early 70’s in La Mirada/Whittier, California. Trying to remember the name of the dog in this photo. Maybe my sister Vera can fill in the dots. Update: My brother Leonard remembered the dog’s name…Sashka.

2. A Favorite

ellen b. in her corduroys and boots with her huge ichthus at work at Montgomery Ward in the early 70’s. Ichthus was the Greek word for “fish.” In the early church sometime during  the end of the first century, the word was made into an acronym. As such, ichthus compiles to Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr which translate to “Jesus Christ, God’s son, Savior,” based on this configuration. The early 70’s are a favorite time to recall in the history of my life and how this time has impacted the rest of my life.

3. Evening.

A lovely evening on the shores of Lake Washington looking across the lake to Seattle.

Thank you Tom for hosting The Weekend Roundup.  Feeling a bit nostalgic as I’m heading to Southern California for some extended family time this weekend.
