Be My Guest Hodgepodge

1. When were you last a guest at an event or in someone’s home?
The last time we were guests was in December.
Tell us about it.
It was a fun informal dinner and card night. Three couple, six of us for pizza and salad and then a great game of Hand and Foot.
Do you enjoy having guests in your own home?
We do enjoy having guests in our home. Despite what’s going on we have had overnight guests and week long guests and one family were our guests for a few weeks. Great times!
2. What has you ‘tied up in knots’ currently or recently?
Thankfully I can’t think of anything that has had me ‘tied up in knots’.
Are you any good at tying actual knots?
I am not good at tying knots but Dear is and I let him tie the knots that we can depend on.
3. What’s something you’ve been wanting to do and have decided 2021 will be the year you ‘take the plunge’?
Trying to sell off some of my dish collections.
4. Something in your home that’s old?
We have a lot of old things that got passed down from Dear’s parents. This baby grand piano is a 1906 Chickering.
Our kids enjoyed it in years past.
And now a new generation is enjoying it.
Something new?
Dear’s shop is something new.
Something borrowed?
The one thing we borrow now that we live in the country is our son’s tractor about twice a year.
Something blue?
Lots of blue in our home. It is hard for me to walk away from a pretty blue plate. Both of our guest rooms have some blue in them, too.

5. Share a favorite quote, a verse of scripture, and/or a bit of wisdom for couples getting married in this challenging and seemingly unpredictable season we’re currently/still experiencing.
Even Jesus came to serve and not to be served and in marriage it would be good for both the husband and wife to have an attitude that is ready to serve each other and not have the expectation to be served. With this attitude gratitude for the selfless acts each one will do for the other will be genuine and this will contribute to a joy filled home.

We are traveling today and I might not be able to get around to all the hodgepodgers until tomorrow.

Birthday Fun on Saturday…

When Herb and Anneliese arrived to our camp on Saturday morning we all greeted Anneliese with Happy Birthday to You in song. It was a good beginning to a very full day. The day was full of food, fellowship, music, playing, shopping, more food, and it was all capped off with so much laughter that many of us were in tears, happy tears!

Dear made his famous Swedish pancakes on Saturday for breakfast and the pancakes, smoky links, fruit, sour cream and real maple syrup hit the spot.

Our Colville kids arrived late morning to meet our campers and Addy and Lovella delighted us with beautiful piano music, well mostly Lovella. We enjoyed singing some hymns and Sunday School songs that Lovella played from heart and from hymnals and other sheet music we had on hand. Glorious! Addy was very comfortable with each of the girls and invited them to play with her in “her room”. We hope she realizes that the room is JJ’s, too.

The guys enjoyed peppering our son Dan about his work. There are always tales to tell. Bev captured the following photos of me and Addy. Thank you, Bev.

The guys jumped in their car and the girls jumped in our car and we headed to downtown Colville to do some shopping. The girls enjoyed the end of the Farmer’s market and a few other shops on Main street before we headed home for appies. The guys ended up in Kettle Falls and enjoyed a “snack” at Backyard BBQ before they headed back to our campsite.

Harv and Bev made their famous Coconut Prawns for our Saturday dinner appetizer and Lovella added her mango salsa.

 

Forgot to take a photo of all the goodies we had for dinner. Marinated Chicken thighs off the Traeger along with an amazing rice, bean and veggie salad that Anneliese, the birthday girl, made. Lovella made scalloped potatoes and Judy made coleslaw. Judy also made a beautiful Raspberry Ripple cake for dessert.

We sang again to the birthday girl and then the laughter started. Terry got us going with hilarious stories recounting the day and other stories from days gone by, some real and some fictitious.  Pretty soon we were drying the laughter tears from our eyes.

Laughter is good medicine and we had an amazing jolt of that medicine this night. I’ll never forget it.

So happy that Anneliese’s birthday was filled with the best kind of fellowship and laughter!

Baby Grand…

I’m happy to report the legacy of this Baby Grand continues with our Grand Baby!

On Monday October 1st all the parts and pieces were put back together at our new home. Addy and her parents came for a short visit on Monday and Addy was introduced to the Chickering. It’s fun to see the history and legend of this baby grand continue with our newest grand baby. This piano is designated for our daughter Katie and when she has a home that can manage it she’ll need to arrange moving it. Until then it’s fun to see another generation enjoying the keys…

Moving Notes…

One of the challenges of our move was this Chickering Baby Grand Piano that we have had in an airtight coffin in our old garage/shop structure for 20 years. We moved it with us because of our daughter’s memories associated with it of her and her “Gommy” (paternal grandmother). Dear’s mother was musically inclined and she taught our Katie on the piano in her early years. We loaded it into the container in Kenmore with 5+ and it was a struggle. It was the last thing left in the container here in Colville and our Colville son recruited 3 of his co-workers to help unload it on Tuesday evening. Dear researched the best way to deal with a Baby Grand and we were so happy to see it in it’s place with little struggle. So thankful for our son’s willing helpers and their strength to move this beast into our living room. We are also very thankful that our new living room has adequate space for this heirloom piece. Now all we need to do is to find a piano tuner in our little community.

We continue to unload boxes and find the best places for our many possessions. We take our cardboard to the community recycling center and we will be taking our garbage and other waste to the dump. It’s a whole new way of life for us here in the country and in a smaller community that we’ve ever lived in. Dear has changed out many lights in our new place and that has brought so much more efficient light into our home. I am so thankful for my Dear and all his handy man skills. Today I did some watering in our greenhouse and picked some tomatoes and in another garden bed picked some corn. I am not a gardener in any sense but hopefully I’ll learn some new skills or entice our daughter in law to use her amazing gardening skills here at our new spot. I need to come up with a name for this new home. Time will tell. Soon with all the boxes unloaded and broken down and hauled away I’ll be able to sit and enjoy the views and enjoy your posts. Although uploading and creating posts with satellite connections are slower I will be able to persevere and continue on. Thank you for bearing with me.
