Frozen Mosaics

We tossed a heavy rock into the middle of the pond to test the ice. It just gave a big thud when it landed there.

We found some new lighting features to help the dark corners of this room.

I made that simple needlepoint ages ago when we were first married. We are warm and cozy in our country bungalow despite the freezing temperatures last week. We’ve had a few days well above freezing now and enjoyed some blue skies and sunshine today.

I’ve started some Christmas decorating in the midst of Dear’s painting projects. Have you started any Christmas preparations?

So we are soon entering Thanksgiving week here in the U.S. Lot’s of T’s associated with a Traditional Thanksgiving meal with Turkey and trimmings. We had an early Thanksgiving with family back in October and this time around we will have a small gathering and try a deep fried turkey on Friday since our son has to work on Thanksgiving. I have a fresh turkey ordered to pick up on Wednesday. No out of town guests are coming this year. What are your plans? Are you cooking or are you invited out?

Farewell October…

We took a drive yesterday to a taxidermist in the back country. I’ll be sharing a post about Larch Trees that we saw on those back roads soon.

Today we are wondering if we will have any trick or treaters at our Country Bungalow. Time will tell. We do know that one little girl will stop by with her parents sometime in the evening. Do you get many costumed cuties at your front door?

First Thanksgiving at the Bungalow

Thankfully one of the local groceries had a nice turkey for me to buy. We enjoyed turkey, stuffing, gravy, yams and rolls. It was a beige meal but one we all enjoy.

We all ended up in plaid except for Addy.

Second born and our neighbors in Colville. Neighbors by eight miles. Roots and future established in North Eastern Washington.

Our youngest with their shallow roots in Western Washington wondering where life and jobs will take them.

Soon I’ll share photos from the inside of our Country Bungalow. We have many more walls to cover with our art pieces. Before too long Dear will be painting every square inch of our interior. Happy new week to all of you!

Early Thanksgiving…

…but it’s never too early or too late for Thanksgiving.

My first Thanksgiving tablescape at our Country Bungalow. I’ve settled on that name for our new abode. Basking in the time we’ve had these past four days with all of our kids and our little grand. Thankful to God for his provision and protection over each one while driving, hunting, working and playing! Since we were all together and won’t be together on traditional U.S. Thanksgiving day we decided to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal early. I’ll share people photos soon!

So Grateful…

…for our helpers.

We got to Colville on Sunday September 16th with a loaded truck, trailer and RAV. We unloaded some things at our new place and then headed to our son and dil’s to stay until our containers arrived and our internet was hooked up. Dear worked remotely from our kids’ home each morning of this first week.

Monday thru Thursday we cleaned and got things ready for our stuff. Dear has lots of painting to do but we will hold off on that for later.

The containers arrived on Wednesday September 19th. Laura, our dil, flew in on Wednesday and we enjoyed her company and Addy enjoyed some extra attention. Addy’s “dadin” (she calls her daddy dadin) was bow hunting in Colorado and she enjoyed the added family attention while he was away.

Our Satelite TV and Internet service was installed on Thursday September 20th. Because of sketchy cell phone service we ordered a booster which we will install soon.

We started unloading the first container in earnest on Friday September 21st. Our 18 month old grand loves to help and she lifted this light bin and moved it around. Our son Josh arrived on Friday and we enjoyed an extra pair of hands. Friday night was the first night we slept in our new home.

Katie and Andrew arrived late on Friday evening to Dan and Jamie’s and the whole crew came over early on Saturday to empty more of the containers.

Addy was still in her jammies and enjoyed her first breakfast at Baba and Gramps’ house.

We all laughed as Jamie did the boom box shuffle!

Dan arrived home from Colorado early on the morning of September 23 and after a couple hours of sleep came over to help, too.

Our DIL, Laura took these panoramic photos of the front and back of our property and the rest of these photos in her collage. Always a good feeling to have all the containers emptied, except for the baby grand piano. We are waiting for our son to recruit many more young men to unload it.

Our Sunday crew in our front yard. So grateful to God for each of them and their willingness to help us and grateful to God for his watch care over all of us!

Our internet is working with some cut outs and slow uploading but I’m so relieved that we can get a connection. We still have many boxes to unload and lots of organizing to do so my time remains scarce in blogdom. Hope to be back to more regular viewing soon.

Flag is Up…

We had to buy a mailbox and attach it to an existing post so our mail could start being delivered. Our neighbor let us use part of a new board he attached to the existing cross piece. It was nice to meet him. All three of our Simple Box containers are being delivered today. Our kids are arriving this weekend to help us unload them. Soon I’ll be saying things like: “Why didn’t I get rid of that?”, “I can’t believe I bothered packing that”, “I was wondering where I packed that”, “Hello old friend”, “I don’t even fit in that anymore, why did I pack it?”, “Where in the world will we put that?” and last but not least, “I’m happy to have my stuff all in one place again”.

Thursday is internet hookup day. I will still be scarce for a while.

What to Do? What to Do?

I’m wondering what I should do with my three remaining days of living in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. We recorded yesterday and received our keys at 6pm. It was getting dark when we headed over to take a quick walk-thru to drop off a small load of stuff. We (myself, son, DIL and grandgirlie). Dear remained on the west side of the mountains with responsibilities to wrap up.

This is our new driveway and I went to the street to take photos of the drive for our container delivery people. Addy spotted me and made a run for it to join me. I had to catch her at full speed before she toppled over! This was yesterday.

Today I drove the six hours from Colville to Lynnwood with my companion on CD being Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope. Now I’m deciding what I want to do on this side of the mountains before we leave to our new home on Sunday. We are moving from a major population area of close to 4 million to a community of about 5,000.

Before I left on Dear’s birthday to head to Colville to deliver paperwork and a check to close on our new home we celebrated Dear’s Medicare birthday with our kids on the western side of the mountains.

A Picture…

…is worth a thousand words!

This photo was taken on Saturday on our kids driveway. We were so thrilled to have clear skies again instead of smoke filled ones.

We are back on the western side of the Cascade Mountains again making an early morning drive today. We have one more load before we lock up the shop and hand over the keys to the new owners who have been gracious enough to let us take the month of August plus a few days into September to empty it. In the last load are some of Dear’s Willys project. A cab, axles, engine, etc. Just in case you were wondering why it’s taking so long to empty the shop. The bed and other parts went in another load. Doors, hood, fenders yada yada yada. He has a Willys and lots of tools and I have lots of dishes. Hopefully, after we move to the country he’ll finally have time to put the Willys back together and get it running. Here’s a small peek into that shop that is getting emptied. This is one quarter of the shop.

And in October I hope to be using those dishes again! Happy September everyone!

Update: Here is a photo I took yesterday at 6:20 PM of the empty shop with our good helpers. You can just see the loaded trailer with the blue Willys cab and our truck outside the door. The locks are changed back for the current owners. We made it to our current abode and tucked the trailer into the garage till our final trip over to Colville to stay. We sat down on the comfy couch by 8:00 PM and were in awe of all that had transpired in this one day. Thank you Lord for watching over us and giving us the strength we need and extra helpers to accomplish what had to be done.

The Wild Turkey Capital…

…of the Pacific Northwest.

Colville lays claim to that title. All of these turkeys were on our son’s property last weekend and we’ve seen many a rafter of turkeys on the roads we travel around Colville and Chewelah.

Now we haven’t seen one of these on the loose but this bull was spotted just a couple properties north from our new house. We definitely won’t be in the big city anymore.

It’s good and it’s scary with many unknowns but we look forward to be settled in by the end of September with all our stuff around us again. We also look forward to meeting our new neighbors. We hear they are good neighbors and will strive to be good neighbors as well.
