My Winter Views…

Many people in our new corner of the world have said that we are having a mild winter and that we haven’t had enough snow. We are happy to get a mild introduction since this is our first winter living here. In the future I’ll post our Spring views and our summer views.

All these trees are part of our front yard. I haven’t counted them all yet. We have many more in our backyard.

Here comes the snow plow. We are really happy to have all these trees between us and the road. We are also grateful that we live on a road that is regularly plowed during the week. It’s a county road and does not get plowed on the weekend.

This was the very first person we’ve ever seen walking along the road. Not a great road for walking.

The last couple days we’ve started out at about 12 degrees and have stayed below freezing throughout the day. Last night was so clear and it was amazing to see stars, so many stars. That is one of the wonderful things about living in the country without lots of street lights. I’m still waiting to see an owl. We heard one a couple mornings ago.

Snow Break

We had a new snowfall on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The snow on the tree branches melted quickly during the day on Wednesday.

When we were looking for a home in the Colville area of Washington State one of my desires was a home with views that went further then a neighbor’s carport or garage. I wanted to see more. More sky, more land, more trees. God has granted my desire and I am thankful.

I’ll be traveling and might not have much computer time the next several days. If you don’t see comments from me you know why. My Quotes of the Week and Sunday Hymn will pop up as usual.

Up to Date…

This little munchkin got to spend some time with Baba and Gramps on Monday because these two…

… had things to do without the help of a toddler.

Addy is learning the lay of the land at Baba and Gramps’ house.

Having no skid socks makes running on the tile floors safer.

We had a lot of fun playing with the helium balloon, bouncy balls, the rocking horse, and a stethoscope. We made sure the dollies got their shoes back on. I’ll have to take a photo of where Addy likes to store those dolls besides Katie’s cradle.

We are expecting rain soon that will melt a lot of this away. Hopefully enough to melt the solid pack of ice underneath.

Today is a good day to stay in and make a big pot of Borsch.

 

Boxing Day in the Snow

On Boxing Day we all gathered at Dan and Jamie’s after breakfast for some fun in the snow and dinner. When Addy woke up from her nap we headed down the driveway for some sledding on the steeper section of the 1 mile driveway.

The sled picked up some nice speed going down and the climb back up was manageable.

Couples decided to give it a try, too.

Laura even managed a selfie zooming downhill with the snow flying in her face.

 

Addy didn’t think it was time to go inside and half way to the garage she noticed Auntie Katie still on the sled and high tailed it to her.

One last ride into the house.

 

 

Another great family memory in the books!

The Western kids left Friday morning for their drive to Spokane Airport for their flight home. It was a quiet afternoon here at our Country Bungalow. Dear made a trip to the dump. Two months of trash disposal cost us $10. Today we woke up to a fresh snowfall. It looks like we have about six inches.

I’ll be staying put today enjoying some down time. How about you?

And for context, below was our view on our way to church this morning. We had a couple of inches of snow overnight that turned to rain while we were in church so now everything is pretty slushy.

December Snow

When we woke up on Monday morning we were surprised to see a fresh inch of snow on the ground.

It’s actually warmer on this snow day then last week when we had clear skies and were in the 20’s.

This mailbox in front of our home isn’t used by the mail service anymore. The previous owners qualified for door service because of some handicaps. They are talking about more snow on Tuesday.

I forgot to show this cute card Addy’s mommy made using Addy’s footprint and handprints to form a reindeer. This was a card for Addy’s Auntie Laura.

Those of you out there who create collages/mosaics, what site/program do you use? Since I’m working off my new laptop after Old Faithful died I don’t have Picasa anymore and am not sure where to go to create collages. Thank you in advance.

A Picture…

…is worth a thousand words!

This photo was taken on Saturday on our kids driveway. We were so thrilled to have clear skies again instead of smoke filled ones.

We are back on the western side of the Cascade Mountains again making an early morning drive today. We have one more load before we lock up the shop and hand over the keys to the new owners who have been gracious enough to let us take the month of August plus a few days into September to empty it. In the last load are some of Dear’s Willys project. A cab, axles, engine, etc. Just in case you were wondering why it’s taking so long to empty the shop. The bed and other parts went in another load. Doors, hood, fenders yada yada yada. He has a Willys and lots of tools and I have lots of dishes. Hopefully, after we move to the country he’ll finally have time to put the Willys back together and get it running. Here’s a small peek into that shop that is getting emptied. This is one quarter of the shop.

And in October I hope to be using those dishes again! Happy September everyone!

Update: Here is a photo I took yesterday at 6:20 PM of the empty shop with our good helpers. You can just see the loaded trailer with the blue Willys cab and our truck outside the door. The locks are changed back for the current owners. We made it to our current abode and tucked the trailer into the garage till our final trip over to Colville to stay. We sat down on the comfy couch by 8:00 PM and were in awe of all that had transpired in this one day. Thank you Lord for watching over us and giving us the strength we need and extra helpers to accomplish what had to be done.

Yesterday I reported that we weren’t slated to get snow but when I walked down the stairs this morning at “oh dark thirty” I noticed that we did get a dusting in the wee hours. Once it’s light I’ll take a photo before it all melts off with the rain that is falling.

I rejoice and give thanks for God’s beautiful creation. I so love autumn, the weather, the colors, the start of something fresh and new.

We live in an area with easy access to walking trails and parks that show off God’s creation.

There’s an old public golf course along the Burke Gilman Trail that the city of Bothell sold off and it is sitting and waiting for developers to change it’s landscape. There was lots of controversy over this sale and I’m sure the folks whose homes have enjoyed the green views are disappointed. In the interim they are allowing the public to walk on the course. We enjoyed our first time doing this last Sunday. The many hazards on the course were left there by Canadian Geese, wink wink.

Old and young golfers are mourning the loss of this course. We met one of them who wasn’t golfing this day but walking his old dog on the course instead.

I’m thankful to God for this guy and all the years we’ve had together so far.

Not linking up today with any memes because it snowed and I have to make potato salad to go with the pork butt that has been in the smoker already for 5 hours and the Sounders won last night and I was at the game and didn’t get home till after 10:30 PM…way late for this early to bed, early to rise person. I hope no grammar police are out today to critique my run-on paragraph! Our Sounders are off to the Western Conference Finals!

Air Quality

This will give you an idea of what very hazardous/unhealthy air quality looks like. Colville has been yellow and orange lately because of smoke from fires which isn’t good either but today we hit a new level of smokey and unhealthy. There are similar problems in Oregon, Montana, Idaho, California and our neighbors to the North in the Frasier Valley and in other parts of Canada. We are laying low today with no windows open. I really miss that great June view!

Our prayers go up for firefighters and people with homes in the path of all these fires. Thinking about countries and those in the path of Hurricane Irma, too.

Makes me want to say, Maranatha.

All the Pretty Petals

Seattle has soaked up 44.67 inches of rain since October 1. That makes this October-through-April the wettest such period since record-keeping began in 1895 — and there’s still another week of April left to go. The normal amount of rainfall for the October-through-April period in Seattle is 30.9 inches, according to the service.

When the sun finally shines we race outside to soak it up and if we are bloggers we grab our cameras. Our plants and trees are blooming and blossoming a little later this year than last.

Our apple tree and pear tree are full of blossoms. We don’t have our patio covers up yet. We usually put them up mid-May and then we bring out our patio furniture.

Our pear tree is in the middle of treatments for Pear Trellis Rust. It’s a great old pear tree and we do not want to let it stop growing healthy.

We left our most precious little flower in Eastern Washington and are planning our next trip back across the mountains to see in person how she has grown.
