“He’s Soooo Cute”

“Addy told me today that she LOVES her baby brother and he is just soooooo cute!”

Jamie posted this on Facebook yesterday and I had to steal borrow the photo and share. Addy is articulating whole sentences and her vocabulary grows every day.

And drum roll please….Jaymison pooped yesterday! That was on day 10 people, so we are thrilled with the news and pray that things will get a bit more regular now. Thank you for all of you who pray for big things and little things and in between things.

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 (ESV)

 

Merry Month of May Mosaics

Our oldest flew in for the weekend to enjoy his niece and nephew while his wife was on an annual girls weekend away with her college roommates. Addy loves her uncle Josh and it’s fun to hear them interact and laugh.

Spring is greening and blooming at our country bungalow.

Some plants we recognize, others we have no clue. We aren’t even sure if they are a weed or flowers.

We have found at least 6 Peony plants on our acreage. I’m quite excited to see if the blooms are all alike or a variety.

We rescued this windmill from our kids property a couple years ago and moved it to our home in Kenmore and put it in our yard. When we packed up to move to our place in the country we dissassembled the windmill and moved it here. Dear reassembled it on Saturday and we set it in this spot.

We’ve had a couple days of rain and mowing was delayed. Tomorrow will be dry and I’ll try out our new grass catcher attachment on our riding mower. Hopefully using the catcher will help decrease the dandelion population.

Lots of times poop is the reason for prayer requests and this time it is literal. For my blogging friends who pray, could you please continue to pray for our little Jaymison, that he would be able to poop at least every 3 days. Thank you.

Addy and Gramps

Addy is most content these days being outside. She has a relentless mantra to whoever will listen…”outside, outside?”  On Mother’s day we gathered at Dan and Jamie’s and Addy tried to coax me into taking her outside and Gramps came to the rescue to take her outside while the preparations for our late afternoon meal were completed.

Jamie noticed the special Gramps and Addy moments outside and I stepped outside on the porch to capture some photos but then Addy noticed me on the porch taking photos.

She diverted from the drive and headed for the fence heading for the porch where I was.

Baby brother was oblivious to all the goings on. Stretch!!

He’s always most content with his mommy but daddy is a huge help in the late night and before dawn feedings. JJ’s big sister is learning and growing in her affection for him.

We are thankful to God for the improvement in JJ’s appetite and activity. His digestive system is still in transition but his weight is increasing which is a good thing.

Times like these are best suited for the younger set. I can’t even remember how we managed with two little ones 2 years apart. We were in our late 20’s and 30’s when we had our babies. Katie came 5 years after our second and it seemed easier with her since Josh and Dan were 7 and 5. Now being closer to 70 then to 60, I know why the child bearing ages are easier when they are earlier. We can help out with babysitting here and there but the challenge is for these young parents to work out on a daily basis. They will find it hard to remember all the challenges when they are our age, too. God’s ways are good and good for us. We count on Him to see us through all the challenges of child rearing and aging, too. We pray that we all will depend on God and help lead Addy and Jaymison to faith in our Lord and Savior.

Sister and Brother

These photos were taken on May 2, 2019.  Jaymison is 16 days old and Addy is 25-1/2 months old in these photos.

Our new heat pump seems to have some wires crossed and it is not cooling. We found out late on Friday so of course the company who installed it was closed by then and not open until Monday. Hopefully we’ll get some service early this week. One more summer like day predicted for tomorrow and then it will cool down to the 70’s.

Mother’s Day was a good full day. Hope your day was a good one.

We’ve Been Quiet…

Our Daughter-in-law posted these words on Facebook this past Friday, the 3rd of May, two and a half weeks after our little JJ was born.

“We have been a little quiet on the social media front lately so felt it was time to fill everyone in.
Jaymison was struggling to gain weight and despite many trips to the Doctor, lactation appts, breastfeeding, syringe feedings, SNS contraption he just kept dropping. Friday after another drop in weight our Dr sent us to Spokane to be admitted into Sacred Heart NICU for further testing. JJ was a mystery to the Doctors when we arrived and all the performed tests came back NORMAL!! After 2 days the little one we shared a room with tested positive for the Rhino virus (common cold) so JJ was tested as well, that came back positive. He has shown no signs of a cold and has started gaining weight. On Monday we were discharged. JJ has continued to gain weight and today is over his birth weight!!

We really want to send a huge shout out to our doctor, nurse staff, friends and family for your prayers and help through the rough times. We really wouldn’t of made it through without all your support. We love you all so much!”

We stopped by our kids home on Friday morning the 26th of April and were concerned that our grandson was very lethargic and our kids were exhausted from trying to get him awake enough to eat properly. Later that day our grandson had another appointment with his doctor and because he continued to lose weight instead of gaining any weight she had him admitted to the NICU ward at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. Spokane is 70 miles from where we live. Addy’s granny came to stay with her on Friday night when the kids traveled to Spokane with JJ and stayed the weekend with her while her mommy and daddy stayed at the hospital. Our DIL, Laura, flew in from Seattle on Sunday to help watch Addy so that Addy’s Granny could go back to work on Monday. It was all hands on deck between Addy’s care and visiting at the hospital. This was also the weekend my sister Vera was visiting so she got to help, too.  Needless to say blogging was put on a back burner.

I asked some of my blogging friends, family, our church family, the Mennonite Girls and other dear friends to pray alongside us and I’m thankful for all of you. Jaymison is eating better and so much more alert. We are praising God for his improvement. We thank God for prayer warriors who come alongside in times like these.

Our son Josh arrived on Thursday the 2nd of May to be another pair of hands to help and encourage us all. Jaymison has a good namesake.

Addy had the best of care during the hospital stay and the week after with all the doctor appointments since.

Mommy and Daddy are happy with Jaymison’s progress and more at peace.

We all wash our hands a lot and we don’t kiss or touch JJ’s face.

Baba has talked with her God and Savior a lot about our little guy.

Walks with Addy, who’s favorite question is, “go outside?”, have happened while someone besides mommy or daddy is holding JJ.

Laura has kept these special times documented. We took this shot just before Josh and Laura left to the airport to go back home today. I know their extra hands and encouragement will be missed this next week but Dan and Jamie are strong and courageous and will do a good job. We’ll continue to help when and where needed. Addy’s Granny and Great Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Scott are always on call, ready to help, too.

In times like these it is difficult to stay up with dear blogging friends but I know you all understand and have been in difficult situations and different seasons of life that make it hard to keep up, too. Thank you for your understanding.

 

At Home

JJ came home from the hospital on Wednesday April 17th.

Great Uncle and Auntie got to see JJ for the first time and hold him on Thursday.

Uncle Andrew arrived and got some cuddles, too.

Addy had lots of memory building time with her aunts and uncles.

Many hours of good family time during JJ’s first week of life outside the womb.

More news to share as the week progresses. We had a good weekend with my sister Vera visiting us from Southern California. Busy, busy times at our Country Bungalow and beyond.

Meeting Little Brother

24 hours after JJ was born he and his mommy were released from the hospital. When we arrived at the hospital, Addy was happy to see her Granny and Granny Great in the waiting room. Addy’s Granny works next door at the clinic. We went upstairs to the OB ward and waited outside the doors. It was a sweet reunion for Addy and her mommy, then she got a peek at her new brother for the first time.

Addy wanted to help her daddy with JJ’s carseat.

Another milestone in the books.

Today the weather has changed with some clouds and precipitation. Hope we get a sunny day while my sister is her this weekend. A busy weekend ahead for us. What’s in store for you this last weekend of April?

The Cuddling

On Wednesday morning we had an opportunity to visit and hold JJ before we headed to Dan and Jamie’s to spend time with Addy and get her ready for the big reveal.

I had to add a photo of Daddy with JJ, too, from the homecoming.

We’re having a great stretch of weather here in Colville. There’s been some lawn mowing and weed pulling and other things going on. Hope all is well in your corner of the world. My sister Vera is coming to visit this weekend so our weekend will be sandwiched with trips to the Spokane airport. Spring is a busy time in the country.

From Taste and See, the John Piper devotional, my reading for today included this suggested prayer:

“Oh, Lord, thank you for my faith. Sustain it. Deepen it. Don’t let it fail. Make it the power of my life, so that in everything I do you get the glory as the great Giver. Amen.”

The Waiting

On Tuesday the 16th of April we gathered in the OB waiting room at Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville.

It was a beautiful day to be born.

It was a long wait and Josh took Addy outside a few times. She wanted a photo with Baby Jesus.

Addy is very observant and sat down next to auntie LoLo (Laura) and crossed her legs just so. That cracked us up!

Granny Great was waiting with us. Addy’s Granny, being Jamie’s mom and a nurse, spent much of the time in the delivery room so I don’t have any photos of her in the waiting room. Update: Laura sent me a photo of Jamie’s mom taking Addy for a spin on waiting day during the Golden Hour.

Auntie Katie and Baba worked on a jigsaw puzzle to make the hours go by.

Addy was hiding the cracker from us before she popped it in her mouth.

Uncle Josh and Addy going for another walk outside. Josh and Laura took Addy home for a nap and sadly missed the lullaby over the loud speakers in the hospital to announce that our grandson was born by just 10 minutes or so. At this point we still did not know what his name would be. After a baby is born they have a golden hour where just the parents are allowed in the room to enjoy the miracle by themselves.

After the golden hour Dan comes into the waiting room to let us know that all is well and to finally announce the name. Jaymison Joshua was born at 4:13 PM. I like that the clock shows up in this photo where brothers embrace with the joyful announcement.

More hugs all around.

Addy woken up from her nap doesn’t really know what to make of all of this. Aunty Katie gets her hug, too. At this time, because of a flu epidemic in our area, the hospital was not allowing anyone under the age of 18 to be in any of the hospital rooms. Also the babies were not allowed outside of the maternity ward so Addy would have to wait to meet her baby brother.

Some of us were able to go in and get our first peek of JJ and congratulate Jamie, too.

The next day, Wednesday April 17th, we’d be back to the hospital for some cuddle time before discharge time after 4:30 on Wednesday.
