The Barn Collective

Before April slips away I wanted to share a couple of barns from the Skagit Valley, The Tulip Capital of Washington State!

This barn has been converted into a Deli/store.

It’s right off the interstate at the exit I take to go to La Conner and to the tulip festival.

Another barn on my usual route. The yellow you see in the background are rows of daffodils.

Can’t remember if I showed this Mt. Vernon beauty before.

Since I mentioned the fact that this area is our tulip capital I’ll leave you with one more photo of the tulip fields from this area last year…

I’m happy to report while visiting our son in Eastern Washington a few weekends back we saw many barns that I’ll be able to share in the future.

April is winding down and we are on the 2 month countdown to our son’s wedding. Fun times ahead. How is spring shaping up in your corner of the woods? I heard some of you got another snow fall!!

This has been another weekend of working on our yard project. It’s been hard work and I’m developing some strong arm and leg muscles from all the shoveling and digging. It’s just too bad that I eat like a football player after we are done so I haven’t lost any weight from all the strenuous work! Working on these yard projects on the weekend also doesn’t give us time for some nice leisurely drives so I can photograph more cool barns, or fences, or anything!

I posted a story about my heritage and the greatest movement in history over at the Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog for Sunday. Click on over if you have the time.

Moo…

For Barn Collective #20 with Amy at Rose Street Reflections I’m posting a close-up of a cow in a barn taken in Lynden, Washington on a road trip to British Columbia.

Thank you Amy. For more country barn scenes click on over.

Dear and I spent many hours in the yard on phase two of our planter/walkway project. The first part of the walkway is done but we dug into a snag finding remains of a huge tree that was cut down years ago on the property. We have to dig some of the roots and trunk out to continue on our project. What a big job that is. I’m ready for a weekend road-trip to find more barns instead of working on the yard!

The walkway is looking good, though. I’ll soon show before and afters of this area.

Hope you enjoy the last week of February!

Both of these buildings are on the same property on Whidbey Island in Washington State. The Large barn is now an antique store.

We had a drippy but productive weekend at this old house. I’ll post some photos from the weekend tomorrow.

Barn Collective Bothell, Washington

The Monte Villa Farm land has long since been converted to other uses. The land is now used as a business park as it is adjacent to the 405 Freeway running through Bothell and Canyon Park. The Farmhouse still stands and has been used as a wedding venue until just recently. The old barn has been converted into a nice restaurant with a loft for private parties or wedding receptions. The land next door to the Barn is now being used by Eastlake Community Church which is thriving and growing.

P1050598Last August we celebrated our son Josh and Laura’s 13th wedding anniversary at Russell’s Restaurant in the converted barn. Here’s a collage of what the interior of the restaurant looks like.

Welcome to February. I’m feeling a lot better and hope to be back to speed by the time this week is over. This will be an interesting month at this old house with work related stuff and of course a visit to the Taxman. No travel that I know of yet so maybe I’ll finally do some deep cleaning around here. What’s new with you?

Barn Collective

So I’m going outside the box again with my Barn Collective post. This is a piece that my mother-in-law painted years back that I really enjoy. My mother-in-law passed away in 1997 and we have reminders of her around our home. She grew up Kansas and she was a school teacher in a one-room school house. She lived with us after my father-in-law passed away in 1985.

Head over to Rose Street Reflections for The Barn Collective #15 to see some actual barns.

Barn Collective ~ Pole Barn Wedding

I’m going outside the box this week with the Barn I’m posting for Barn Collective. Our nephew got married under a pole barn in Nuevo, California and it was a wonderful rustic setting that they made cozy using lots of hay, burlap, lights and candles. There are two pole barns side by side and one was used for the ceremony and the other was used for the reception and dancing.

One of my nieces before the wedding begins.

My nephew (the groom) built all the benches with help from my brothers and his friends.

Two of our kids with their cousins.

The groom, our nephew Levi with my brother Steve (Levi’s father) in the background. Steve is a pastor and he performed the wedding ceremony.

The bride and groom.

The flower girls and ring bearer. The flower girls dropped bird feathers along the burlap runner.

My parents with all but 5 of their grandchildren along with 2 great grandchildren.

The Barn Collective

When we were in Eastern Washington last weekend I took a couple photos of barns. The one on top is run down and see through while the next one is still being used.

The little trailer on wheels is pretty slick. We found out it is a portable chicken coop.

This weekend we filled a few yard waste bins with leaves only to have as many fall again over night. It’s that time of year. Hope you all had a nice weekend.
