Look Closely…

The sign on the gate caught our eye but the surrounding fence really had us investigating. Check out the stone fence surrounding this gate. The fence around this beach home near Oxnard in Southern California holds lots of surprise elements.

When my husband was working in Southern California from 2006-2010 we had a condo so on the weekends we were”foot loose and fancy free” to do whatever we wanted. We really enjoyed early morning walks at the beach and one Saturday we ventured out to the Oxnard area and spotted this house.

I’m looking forward to some time in the future when Dear and I might be footloose and fancy free. Time will tell. In the meantime I’ll be content with our busy schedules and long prayer lists!

…Good Manners!

Small Points on Table Etiquette

Delicacy of manner at the table stamps both man and woman, for one can, at one glance, discern whether a person has been trained to eat well-i.e. to hold the knife and fork properly, to eat without the slightest sound of the lips, to drink quietly, to use the napkin rightly, to make no noise with any of the implements of the table, and last, but not least, to eat slowly and masticate the food thoroughly. All these points should be most carefully taught to children, and then they will always feel at their ease at the grandest tables in the land.

Tonight we will be going out to celebrate our son and daughter in love’s 14th wedding anniversary. Thankfully we won’t be at the grandest table in the land and we won’t have a lot of pressure to exhibit the most perfect table manners. The celebration itself will be grand with 4 of our 6 gracing the table!

Garden Fences!

When you live in the country you have to put fences up around your garden so that you can enjoy the bounty instead of the deer and other wildlife. Our son built this fence for his soon to be wife. Jamie’s Garden is producing some great vegetables already. If the deer could read the sign they would know they are not welcome in Jamie’s Garden.

I see lots of fresh salads and salsa in their future!

Sign on a Good Fence!

We have a lovely space close to us where you can walk out on these wooden walkways and see nature at it’s best. The fences along the walkway help to keep you where you should be so you don’t disturb the wildlife!

Can you see all the ducklings?

The vegetation is so lush and green this time of year.

We are having another stretch of dry warm weather and I’ve had to water my plants instead of depending on the rain to do that.

Dear was in New Orleans at a conference and I’m very happy to have him back home. We are celebrating at our favorite Mexican dive.

Signs and Fences…

We are in wedding mode counting down the days to our son’s wedding in June. This sign is hanging in our son’s home. Linking up with Lesley for Signs, signs!

While Dear and I were on Bainbridge Island we saw these fences. Of course I thought of Good Fences and Tex Wis Girl!

We are looking forward to a special event coming up on Saturday. We had to chuckle when Dear’s fortune cookie said “Traveling to the north will bring you unexpected happiness.”

Family Signs

This last weekend we enjoyed lots of great family time at some of the places featured in this “Signs, signs”  by Lesley combo post!

Six of us traveled east and then north to the little town of Chewelah.

The girls enjoyed a bridal shower on Saturday while the guys worked on flooring and plumbing at our son’s home.

Granny had several fun signs at her home.

In this part of Washington state you see a lot of these signs if you travel off the main highway.

When we made it back to our son’s home after the shower we went out to dinner to celebrate our son-in-laws birthday at El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant.

Happy Birthday Andrew. We had a real good time celebrating you!

After dinner we all went up to the lodge where Dear and I were staying and had a family photo time.

Our family is rounding out very nicely. We are thankful to God for blessing us with kids who get along and enjoy each other. It was good to work together, celebrate together, play games with each other, and eat together.

Just before we hit the road to travel back to Western Washington we all had brunch together at the new Main Street Bistro in Chewelah.

And then we stopped to get gas at our station of choice in this area.

Such a random assortment of photos from different times and 3 different states. I’m feeling a bit random myself these days. Here we are in March already. March is my birthday month and it is our daughter and son-in-law’s anniversary month. March is also the spring forward month (this weekend!!). I’m headed to Eastern Washington on Saturday for an overnight trip to go Bridal dress shopping with our future daughter in law. This Sunday is the opening game for the Seattle Sounders Soccer team! March has come in like a lamb this year. What are you looking forward to in March?

Just a short drive away from our home we have a wonderful selection of wineries and tucked into winery row is Redhook Brewery and the Forecasters Pub. Besides the wineries and Redhook there is also a Whiskey distiller. The largest and finest winery in this area is Ste. Michelle Winery.

Dear and I were in the mood for a burger and a brew so we chose Forecasters.
