When I was at Snoqualmie Falls last week I was reminded of Narnia in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
The children stared at each other.”
“I don’t know that I’m going to like this place after all,” said Susan.
“Who is the Queen, Lu?” said Peter. “Do you know anything about her?”
“She isn’t a real queen at all,” answered Lucy; “she’s a horrible witch, the White Witch. Everyone – all the wood people- hate her. She has made an enchantment over the whole country so that it is always winter here and never Christmas.”
No worries though the White Witch hasn’t enchanted all of Western Washington yet and we will have Christmas!

Because of our below freezing temperatures we’ve had for several days running I wanted to get up to Snoqualmie Falls to see what effect the weather was having there. It really was a sight to behold. The sun wasn’t cooperating with my trip timing and with my amateur skills for my shots to really show how grand the view was.
I plan to go again in the summer or after a big melt in the Cascades so I can get some shots of how full and furious the falls can be.

There’s a Path that leads to Nowhere

1. and 2. Today is our last day of Women’s Bible Study Fall session. I really enjoyed shopping at Homegoods this week and finding some little treats for the ladies at my table. The autumn mugs were in the clearance aisle and were marked down to $2.99. And while I was shopping I nabbed this fun fold up tin server for myself that was on clearance at $11.00. I like the charcoal grey and the design on it. The fact that it folds up for easier storage is great, too.
3. On Willow and my walks we’ve been treated to some new birds this week that we haven’t seen up close before on our walks. I had to really zoom in to catch this Road Runner but I was thrilled to see it. Beep beep!
The Hawk was another treat and I almost caught him flying away…oops, just not quick enough with the camera. We saw lots of deer again this week and this butterfly stayed put long enough for me to capture a shot.
4. I mentioned Bible Study. It’s been really great studying about God’s Transforming Grace this fall. I’ve learned a lot and I hope the Holy Spirit will imprint what I’ve learned on my heart.
5. Did I mention before that I’m flying home to the Seattle area for Thanksgiving next Tuesday?? Oh I have, well let me mention it again here. I’m so looking forward to spending time home with my family over the holidays. My packing list is getting long…

I saw this perfectly built nest that had long been abandoned in late September. I was really impressed with the construction. I had to zoom in and get a closer look. I was happy to remember this for my N post! Have a good week everyone!

On Saturday morning Dear and I took a hike up from Sycamore Canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains to a Scenic area overlooking the Pacific Ocean near Pt. Mugu. We were struck with how dry the brush was and Dear commented on how easy it would be for a fire to spread through this type of brush. This is a collage I made of some of the dryness we hiked through. We are now having a Santana Wind event in Southern California and there is a large fire burning in the Angeles Forest East of Los Angeles. I’m sure the terrain there looks a lot like this, too.
What are the Santana or Santa Ana Winds?
The Santana Winds or Santa Ana Winds, most common in the late summer and early fall, begin with dry air moving in from the interior of the U.S. towards Southern California. As this air flows down into the Los Angeles-Orange County Basin through the low gaps in the mountains (notably Cajon Pass on the east end of the San Gabriel Mountains and Soledad Pass south of Palmdale), it compresses and warms about five degrees Fahrenheit for every 1,000 feet that it descends. Though these winds are much cooler high in the mountains, they can become hot and dry and assume gale force when descending into the Los Angeles-Orange County Basin. They are often the source of air turbulence for aircraft approaching Los Angeles International Airport.
The original spelling of the of name of the winds is unclear, not to mention the origin. Although the winds have been commonly called Santa Ana Winds or Santa Anas, many argue that the original name is Santana Winds or Santanas. Both versions of the name have been used. The name Santana Winds is said to be traced to Spanish California when the winds were called Devil Winds due to their heat. The reference book Los Angeles A to Z (by Leonard & Dale Pitt), credits the Santa Ana Canyon in Orange County as the origin of the name Santa Ana Winds, thereby arguing for the term Santa Anas. This might be supported by early accounts which attributed the Santa Ana riverbed running through the canyon as the source of the winds. Another account placed the origin of Santa Ana Winds with an Associated Press correspondent stationed in Santa Ana who mistakenly began using Santa Ana Winds instead of Santana Winds in a 1901 dispatch.

1. Breakfast at Julienne with some of my family on Saturday morning. I had poached eggs on a Parmesan crusted potato thingie (potato cake) with guacamole and Pico de Gallo. Yummy!
2. A walk at dawn at the beach with Dear.
3. Seeing Photos and hearing about my kids and their cousins time at a cousin’s reunion they planned.
4. Walking most days with Willow and dropping a few of many pounds that need to come off! We saw 10 deer on Thursday that’s about how many more pounds I want to drop by U.S.A. Thanksgiving!
5. Having things quiet down with our loud neighbor who we suspect is on Meth… The photo shows the boyfriend’s clothes that she threw out from the railing above our garage when he walked out on her. I took a broom and moved them over to the front of her garage after I took this photo :0)

Plumeria (common name Frangipani; syn. Himatanthus Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) is a small genus of 7-8 species native to tropical and subtropical Americas. The genus consists of mainly deciduous shrubs and trees. P. rubra (Common Frangipani, Red Frangipani), native to Mexico, Central America, and Venezuela, produces flowers ranging from yellow to pink depending on form or cultivar. From Mexico and Central America, Plumeria has spread to all tropical areas of the world, especially Hawaii, where it grows so abundantly that many people think that it is indigenous there.
