ABC Wednesday ~ Pacific Ocean

Welcome to ABC Wednesday.

P is for the Pacific Ocean

We live about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It’s such a blessing to be able to jump in the car and be at the ocean in 10 minutes! This is the Pt. Mugu area on the coast in Southern California.

These first two shots are taken right from the shore.

This is taken from about 25 feet above the water.

This shot is taken on one of our favorite hikes to Scenic Pt. about 450 feet above the Pacific.

Fridays Fave Five

1. Dear and I were well enough to have our Saturday walk and this time around we opted to head north and have breakfast at Cold Springs Tavern tucked away in the San Marcos Pass above Santa Barbara. After breakfast we took a foggy/misty walk along the shore and to the Andree Clark Bird Preserve in Santa Barbara.

2. I made one of Dear’s favorite Italian dishes this week Puttanesca and I’ll be sharing the recipe soon.

3. I really enjoy finding a bargain and this week I bought a White French Ruffle twin duvet cover at Goodwill for $7.95. It’s from the Target Shabby Chic line. When I was in Target later in the week I saw it on the rack for $69.95! Oh and I don’t have any twin size beds. I bought it to use as a tablecloth. Here’s a photo of it on the table straight out of the package with some added pretties on top…

4. I got to see some great photos of my sweet niece and I’m sharing it today for my Happy Halloween post and my Pink Saturday Post combined! Pure Pink Sweetness happening here!

5. It’s been cooler this week so it’s been easier on Willow and I on our walks. The Mule Deer love it, too.

My computer is acting up and I’m hoping it fixes itself soon. When I access blogs from my WordPress blog things seem to work fine but if I go to the linkies or google reader and try to access blogs I get booted out and my page shuts down.  Where did all my great background color and design disappear to? Wah, wah, wah….

Awards and Stuff

Before this week gets away from me I wanted to acknowledge simultaneous awards I received from two Bloggy friends.

Thank you Willow and Thank you Scrabble Queen

Thank you very much for this kind acknowledgement. I appreciate it. I’ve met Willow and we’ve become walking buddies in California. I told Scrabble Queen that it would be so wonderful to have a bloggy tea party so we could meet. Blessings on you both.

I’m going to share my bouquet of flowers that I bought at the Kirkland Farmer’s Market Yesterday for you all to enjoy.

Before I headed to the Farmer’s Market yesterday I managed to get a lot of steps in walking around Juanita Bay again. It was a cloudy day compared to last time I did the walk. Since I only had 4491 steps at the end of the day on Tuesday I was determined to do better on Wednesday. When I finally layed my head on the pillow I had walked 12,895 steps! Whoohoo! Here are a couple photos from my walk.

Have a wonderful day. I’m trying to get motivated to get out and walk again…

Walking Again

Oh the Places you will go, Oh the Wonders you will see…

I made the horrible timely mistake of stepping on the scale last Tuesday morning. Right then and there I decided it was time to get serious about walking everyday again. I’ve gotten a little more fluffy and soft then I want to be. So I headed out to see what I could see…

The Burke Gilman Trail which spills into the Sammamish River Trail is a great place to walk/ride/run in the Seattle Area. My two walking buddies and I walked this trail every Saturday morning for several years before I moved to California. When I’m back in town we still get together to walk it. The two of them walk it when I’m away. It’s so lush and green in the Spring and Summer! This last Saturday we walked our typical 15,000 steps! On Wednesday of last week after the “stepping on the scale” incident I walked part of the trail starting at Bothell Landing and I clocked 7282 steps. These photos are from that day.

LOOK! I even found the MAGIC PORTAL to get to Hogwarts from the Pacific Northwest!

On Thursday for my motivation to walk I headed to Juanita Bay in Kirkland, Washington. There’s a wonderful park next to the bay with boardwalks that go out into the marshes and wetlands.

I saw this young Blue Heron.

Lots of Woodland Ducks. It was so exciting when I looked straight down from a spot on the boardwalk and saw this mama duck with her ducklings just below me.

Then I spotted these turtles!

This beautiful Dragonfly stayed around long enough for me to zoom in and get a shot.

When Dear gets here I think we’ll have to do this walk again together.

You can see why it was easy to get in 8694 steps checking out the wonder of this spot. The beauty that the Lord has created for us to enjoy and praise Him for is all around us. I hope to always have eyes that see it and a tongue that gives Him praise for it.

On Friday I went to Bellevue and I already posted about that day and those steps! So for my first 5 days back with renewed inspiration to walk my average steps were 9286. My Saturday walks with the girls really pushes up my average.

I hope to keep walking this week. Have a wonderful week and remember your Creator, the God who made all things beautiful for us to enjoy…

Friday Morning in Bellevue, Washington

I rode over to Bellevue this morning to check out the Bellevue Festival of Arts…

There were lots of interesting handcrafted, painted, sculpted, wrought, things to see. I had to take a picture of a quilt for Ivory Spring and a picture of a Knitting booth for Willow. Aren’t those masks made out of feathers interesting? I clocked 7000 steps and decided to go to where I’m willing to spend a lot less on treasures…The Bellevue Goodwill. On my way back to the car I had to take a photo of the reflections in the high rise buildings in downtown Bellevue.

Now off to Goodwill and here’s what I found this trip.

I nabbed a large what looks to be Russian Teapot for $5.99. The Cake plate and cover were $9.00. The sweet plates (6 of them) were $.99 each. The Pink glass tea cups and saucers were $2.99 each (a little pricey) but I think they look great on the mint and pink rose trimmed plates. My favorite purchase today is the “Russian teapot”

I found a couple of Goodwill items for my bloggy friends in Southern California that I’ve gotten together with face to face, Willow and Sara. I met Sara in person at the Getty Villa. I met Willow in my hometown in California. When we are both in town Willow and I try to walk Monday thru Friday.

For Willow from Willow’s Cottage who likes blue, I found this pretty blue decantor/vase (made in Italy)

And for Sara from Much Ado About Something this book that she has been on a quest to find…

I got real nervous when I saw the Edith Holdren book you found at the book store and was happy it wasn’t this one. So you can stop looking, Sara.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone…

Blue Skies Smiling at Me ~ Sky Watch

Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see

Bluebirds
Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long

Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you’re in love, my how they fly

Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on

Fun Monday ~ Vacations

Alison is hosting Fun Monday today. Here is her assignment…

Vacations…this is the time of year when most of us go on vacations. Show us and/or tell us about your favorite vacation – where you went, what you did, etc. Pictures would be great. Let’s all take a trip around the world via our FM friends!!

My favorite vacations have been to Great Britain.

In 2004 we took our daughter on a literary tour of Great Britain for her graduation gift. We visited places of inspiration for C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Austen, and Monty Python???! Too see more of this tour click here.

In 2006 we took a walking tour with our dear friends with stops in Wales, The Lake District, Oban, Edinburgh, and York. To see the highlights of this tour click here.

My Sweet Niece and Me and Vitiligo

I love this photo of my sweet little niece with her Aunty ellen b. Look at her great eyebrows. After we left Dallas she cut two bottom teeth within the week. She’s just 3-1/2 months old. Before we left for Dallas I had my first ever trip to the dermatologist because my face was discoloring. I thought I was getting brown spots. At my visit the dermatologist discovered that I’m not getting brown spots but instead I’m losing the pigment in my skin, a condition called Vitiligo. It’s the same condition that Michael Jackson has. I’m not wearing any cover-up in the photo above so you can see my loss of pigment especially next to my dear niece’s perfect baby skin. So from now on if I post any photos of myself out walking you’ll see me with my Dallas souvenir on…

Here I am last Saturday at Emma Wood State Beach with my new UPF50+ hat with a 3″ rim. The areas of my skin that are losing pigment are very sensitive to the sun so I need to add extra protection. A sunblock with helioplex broad spectrum uva-uvb and avobenzone 3% are highly recommended for protection. I’m using a Neutrogena product that has both of these ingredients in it. The only downside to this condition for me besides my vanity, is the fact that I don’t wear hats well and then the added condition of bad dented hair from the hat after my walks!

Between my back issues and my face issues I was happy to have memorized ~ 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ~”Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Have a wonderful day y’all and keep on walking. I’ve had a good week of walking and I’ll be posting my average steps every Monday from now on.
