Counting Down to Saturday…

I love this view that we had on our early morning walk this past Saturday. The sky looks painted don’t you think? This coming Saturday I fly to Seattle and will be at our home there until the New Year. I’ll miss our early morning walks here in Southern California with Dear and with Willow. Dear will join me there over Thanksgiving and then have an extended vacation during Christmas in Seattle, too. I have projects to complete that require some extended time there for me. My countdown here includes projects that need to get done before I fly away on Saturday. On Tuesday I’m headed to my mom and dad’s for a meal with the girls in the family, sisters and nieces and a nephew or two. It will be hit and miss with me and the blog till I get my Seattle legs. In the meantime I’ll be praying for God’s blessings on my bloggy friends…

Where’s ellen b.? ~ She flew the coop!

Just wanted to share one last image of our first born Josh with his beautiful wife Laura at a good friend’s wedding this past Friday. Laura was in the wedding.

I stole it without asking right off of facebook!!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Cloudy Walks

Early Saturday morning Dear and I had a cool cloudy walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, California. Then on Tuesday morning Willow and I joined 3 gals for a walk at the Blueberry Farm.

What a difference a week makes. Last Tuesday Willow and I walked on her friend’s Blueberry Farm and the Skies were clear and blue. This Tuesday we walked the Blueberry Fields again this time hurrying before the rains came down.

There’s Willow way back there. We had a fun little crowd walking this day.

I thought this mushroom was very cool…

At the end of our walk we tasted 3 or 4 different varieties of Blueberries. Yum!

Blue Mosaic Monday ~ Pacific Dawn

Time to visit Mary at the Little Red House for Mosaic Monday and Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday.

Dear and I went for a walk on the beach at Dawn Saturday. It was a nice cool cloudy morning with pastel hues in the sky and on the Pacific.

Have a good week everyone!

Back to Emma Wood!

We realized it’s been about 4 months since our last walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, California. This morning we arrived shortly before dawn to revisit our favorite beach walk. The tide was low but not low enough for us to walk along the sand for long.

As the light increased I enjoyed the subtle pastel colors in the sky and the iridescent colors on the water. Wish I could capture that iridescence in my photos.

You have to look closely to see the cute beach birds (Sanderlings) on the rocks…

Clearly this guy can’t read!

Hope your weekend is going well…

The Birds! The Birds!

Even though our 6:00 AM beach walk was socked in with a marine layer we were very happy because this change in our weather is helping out the fire fighters who are battling the Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara. The fire was 30% contained the last we heard and 38,000 people have been evacuated so far. Our nephews college, Westmont, has been evacuated for the second time this school year. There is some optimism today that things are getting better. They estimate containment on May 13th. Our nephew won’t be able to move his personal belongings out of his college dorm room until the evacuation orders are lifted. The last day of school was Friday.

Our walk today was all about the birds!

Can you see all the holes in the sand that these little birds have made looking for breakfast?

It is so much fun to see these birds move up and down the sand as a group.

I was practicing catching birds in flight today.

Enjoy your weekend everyone. For all the mothers out there, a very Happy Mother’s Day to you with all God’s blessings!

Saturday ~ Beach Gatherings…

So not as early as usual Dear and I headed to Emma Wood State Beach for our Saturday morning stroll. Today we were blessed with seeing an over abundance of Pelicans just hanging out on the sand. There were plenty flying over the water, too!

Later in the day we headed south to Long Beach for a mini-reunion with my high school class of 1968! We met at a restaurant on the water and tried to remember names and faces. It was fun to see good ole friends.

Our class of ’68 really was a great group of people. We were commenting on what a rich melting pot we were. We had a large Jewish, Armenian, Russian, Mexican, and Japanese population at our school. This varied population really added to our rich high school experience. 1968 was a very emotionally charged period in the history of our country. A couple major historical tragedies that occurred just before we graduated were the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bobby Kennedy.

And 41 years later it was great to re-connect and have conversations with these friends!

This was taken at Cafe Noveau in Ventura, California a few weeks ago. Every now and then I head North to Ventura to shop their Main Street Thrift stores. I decided to stop here for a little breakfast before I hit the shops.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Crosses…

I’m continuing my Easter/Holy week theme with Outdoor Wednesday for this week. I love to walk through old cemeteries where there are above the ground headstones. There are always the coolest crosses to be found.

1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (New International Version)

Christ the Wisdom and Power of God

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
