Tea and Fiesta in Washington

After our very successful trip to Goodwill the ladies arrived at Madame Fifi’s Tea Room at Country Village in Bothell for an Afternoon Tea.

Madame Fifi (Christine) had our lovely room all ready for us. The usual after Thanksgiving Goodwill shoppers were in attendance and this year we inducted Pat (my DIL Laura’s mother) into the group.

We each chose our tea and enoyed a relaxing time.

Our sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, lemon curd, and sweets were divine! After all this loveliness one would think we didn’t need any more food on this day but…

My SIL Letty made us a fabulous Mexican dinner. She made refried beans, Mexican rice, salsa, and carnitas for us all to enjoy. YUM! Ejola it was muy bueno!!

We capped off the night with a movie all cuddled up on the couch!

I don’t know how much longer I can keep up this pace but I’m enjoying every minute of my time in Washington with my family. Have a wonderful weekend…

Bridging the Gap ~ Day Two

This bridge is in the city of Bothell, Washington. It connects the Sammamish River trail across the Sammamish River to Bothell Landing. Bothell Landing is home to  several historical buildings and is a city site for celebrations and concerts in the summer.

When my kids were little we lived on a hill above this area and we’d hike down to Bothell landing with family and friends for fun. We’ve moved away from this area but it still holds good memories.

When I’m in Washington 2 of my walking buddies and I walk the Sammamish River Trail and the Burke Gilman Trail for 6 miles. We stop short of this bridge.

This is a picture of me, ellen b., on this bridge on Blake Lewis Day in Bothell May of 2007. Blake was one of the final two on American Idol that year. He was about to give a concert at Bothell landing to honor his hometown.

Ruby Tuesday

I got a kick out of this great advice on the side of a railroad car that is now parked at Country Village in Bothell, Washington.

And this Ruby Umbrella was at Country Village Also.

Another shot from Bothell along the Sammamish River Trail a couple of Kayakers in ruby Kayaks!

Happy Ruby Tuesday everyone. Click over to Work of the Poet for more Ruby…

Lana’s Belated Birthday Lunch!

So guess where I took my little sister Lana G! for her belated birthday lunch today?

We went to Madam Fifi’s Tea Room in Bothell at Country Village. I was wanting to share this Tea Room with Lana and since this is a rare day when we are both in Washington at the same time we took the opportunity. We were both delighted with the Grand Tea.

Madam Fifi’s Grand Tea
Pot of loose leaf tea or iced tea of the day
Cup of soup or garden salad
Fresh seasonal fruit
scones with cream & lemon curd
Generous tea sandwiches—
Smoked salmon cream cheese with cucumber
Crab salad
Chicken curry salad
Turkey with raspberry cream cheese
Grand assortment of decandent tarts, cookies and pastries.
~
We had the soup of the day and it was wonderful. We also chose the Lady Londonderry Tea. We really enjoyed it and both ended up buying some to take home to savor. It is really hard to treat Lana to a meal. She is very sneaky about picking up the tab. Today I was going to finally win but Madam Fifi thwarted me and insisted on giving us her Grand Tea on the house! Thank you Madam Fifi. We love your establishment and we will be back.

This one was in Ventura. I don’t know where Dan is…

This one is in Bothell. Looks like you were 7. That’s probably a Blackberry Birthday Pie made from Blackberries you all picked.

On Norway Hill again and I think I count 8 candles here.

Happy Birthday Melissa. Hope you enjoy your birthday events from morning till night!

And Let The Games Begin!! Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics ~

Ruby Tuesday ~ Country Village

I took a little trip to Country Village in Bothell, Washington last week. There was an abundance of red to photograph here! Here’s what their website says about the village.

Shop, dine and feed
the chickens …

Over 40 shops and restaurants clustered among beautifully landscaped gardens, ponds, wandering paths, picnic and play areas.

Everything from fabulous home decor and original art, to antiques and innovative toys!

You can even find anything you need for Belly Dancing at the Ottoman Trading Co.

My favorite find on my visit was not red at all but predominately blue. Madame Fifi’s Tea Room and Bakery. I had a lovely lunch topped off with some delicious scones.

Madam Fifi’s Tea Room in Bothell

What a lovely discovery I made today on one of my adventures, Madam Fifi’s Tea Room and Bakery located at Country Village in Bothell.

The Tea Room was decorated with all this lovely blue.

I enjoyed a half-sandwich with a salad and Earl Grey Tea. I was surprised when a plate of scones came out at the end of my meal. So surprised that I took a bite before I could photograph it. All the food I had was delicious and fresh tasting. The scones were melt in your mouth perfect with just enough cream and lemon curd. Hmmm, I wonder why I’m not losing weight!? :0)

There are lots of tea accessories for sale in the Tea Room, too.

I would recommend Madam Fifi’s Tea Room. Lana, I’d love take you here for your birthday!

Bothell Landing ~ Bothell, Washington

ABC Wednesday Round 3 ~ B is for Bothell

Bothell is the first town that we lived in when our little family moved from California to Washington in 1988. Our kids went through elementary, junior high, and high school in Bothell. Since then part of Bothell has been renamed Kenmore. Bothell is located northeast of the city of Seattle and on the eastside of Lake Washington.

The Park at Bothell Landing is home to several of Bothell’s historical buildings. Each historical structure at the Park was relocated and restored to take on a new life at the Landing.

Now the Bothell Historic Museum, this home was built by William Hannan himself.

Born in Pennsylvania in 1853 and moving to the Northwest in 1888, Hannan bought property in Bothell in 1890. This was the beginning of a long history in which Hannan was involved in shaping much of early Bothell. He had the post office from 1894 until 1898 and was Bothell’s mayor from 1916 to 1919; he was also member of the school board, the Commercial Club, Odd Fellows and Masons.

The school bell from the second Bothell schoolhouse has been re-hung in the Landing bell tower. It is rung for special occasions in Bothell, such as the Fourth of July, the first day of school, and graduation day.

You can also see the Bridge in the background that take you across the River to the Burke Gilman/Sammamish River Trail.

While the schoolhouse itself was built in 1885, weather delayed the opening and it wasn’t until March of 1886 that the doors opened to teach the children. Miss Helen DeVoe, originally from New York state, was the first school teacher for Bothell; some of her first students were William Keener, Albert Bothell, Annie Beckstrom, and George Brackett

This cabin housed Andrew and Augusta Beckstrom and their 16 children! Their 3rd child, John, was born in the cabin, and is the first recorded birth in Bothell.

Wayne Curve Bridge located along the Burke Gilman Trail is another registered historic site. When I’m in Washington my girlfriends and I walk the Burke Gilman Trail every Saturday morning and we pass this spot twice.

1909 – Bothell was incorporated as a town with a population around 600. George Bothell was elected as the towns first mayor and another relative, AF Bothell was elected council, the town became ‘Bothell’. Gerhard Ericksen, the first Postmaster, is reputed to have said, “There are so many Bothell’s in town, let’s call it Bothell.” Many of the ‘Bothell Family’ are buried in Bothell’s historic Pioneer Cemetery

This was too much for me to try to post on the Blogger site. If you made it though all of this you did well. For more ABC Wednesday Posts on the Letter B visit Mrs. Nesbitt and the new ABC Wednesday Blog.

Ruby Tuesday ~ Bothell Landing

I took a walk along the Sammamish River Trail at Bothell Landing and these are some of the Ruby things I saw. After parking my car the first ruby that caught my eye were the rooster combs. Then I crossed the River on this bridge to get to Bothell Landing.

I walked around Bothell Landing where they have relocated several historical buildings.

This was the first school house in Bothell.

I’ve been finding out some interesting history about Bothell for my ABC Wednesday post. Bothell is the first city in the state of Washington that we lived in when we moved from California to Washington in 1988.

For more Ruby Tuesday head over to The Work of the Poet.

Oh and look what I got last week when I came in third place for answering Maryt’s question on how to tell the good guys from the bad guys. Thanks again Maryt.

Have a great Ruby Tuesday y’all!

Sky Watch ~ Sammamish River Trail

I’m still in the State of Washington and the skies have been quite cloudy and boring these last couple of days. I took a walk yesterday along the Sammamish River Trail out from Bothell Landing. I decided this view with the lush green foliage could make up for the boring sky.
