Remiss…

That’s an adjective that would be pinned on me if I didn’t mention the Sunday that was in Seattle!

Everywhere you looked in the the Puget Sound area you would see evidence of the 12th man Seahawk fans.

The city willed the Seahawks to a torturous victory over the San Francisco Forty Niners on Sunday. That means that the Seattle Seahawks are the NFC Champions and will be going to the Super Bowl.

unnamedG5X1S3YFThis is the building that Dear works in downtown. It’s the Russell Investment Center.

Looks like we won’t be able to ignore the Super Bowl game this year. There are many years that we do. This year we might even have to host a party.

The game and after game shows and all the news about all the excitement in Seattle ended just before Downton Abbey aired last night. The hilarious thing that happened next during the opening to Downton Abbey was that they photo shopped a 12th man flag on the top of Highclere Castle and gave a shout out to Seattle fans being loud, louder, loudest! How fun is that…

12th man downton 005

12th man downton 003The city of Seattle and all the out lying areas really come together in support of their teams like the Seahawks, the Sounders, the former Sonics.

We will go with the flow and enjoy all the hoopla that having our home team in the Super Bowl brings. Do you watch the Super Bowl? I was happy that the episode of Downton last night wasn’t as dramatic as the previous one. I’m starting to write down some of the lines from the show, too, like “We don’t all have to live off battered fish and meat pies!”

Dark and Foggy

Dear was ready for a walk on Saturday. Dear is a morning person, a very early morning person. I was able to stall him a bit so our walk could at least end in the light. We walked the same trail as Katie and I walked but we headed in the opposite direction.

Since it was foggy and dark for half our walk I decided to leave my larger camera at home and I only took my little pocket camera. Being out so early we were able to hear a lot of birds chirping and quacking.

P1040785When Katie and I walked last Wednesday these gopher mounds weren’t here. This cracked me up because it seemed like this particular varmint didn’t appreciate the work the city had gone to in designating this spot to sit and watch the river flow.

morning trail4

Rounding a bend we heard this rooster crow and announce the new day had begun. He was chasing some ducks around and trying to establish his kingship amongst the foul.

P1040792

P1040793We’ve never seen a beaver along the banks but we have seen lots of evidence of their presence.

P1040795

We always love to see eagles and we were treated to a couple eagle sightings on this morning.  I really had to zoom in with my little camera and was happy that you can tell it really was an eagle we saw.

P1040797

P1040802

As we walked back to the car we heard this group of Comorants put up a fuss and fly off together. They had all been sitting in a tree together that the eagle we had spotted earlier decided to perch in.

P1040807He now had the whole tree to himself.

P1040803Beautiful reflections on the river surface always grab my attention.

P1040808

There is a different kind of beauty in the foggy overcast vistas.

As we continued back to our car we had one more eagle spotting. I was wondering if this was a second eagle or if it was following us along the trail.

morning trail2

When we got back to our car we decided that a doughnut would be a nice treat on this cold foggy morning. Something to take back home to enjoy with our eggs. I’m happy to say that I didn’t feel guilty about that doughnut or the eggs!

Faithful Shepherd, Feed Me ~ Hymn

winter trail 012

Faithful Shepherd, Feed Me

Faithful Shepherd, feed me
In the pastures green;
Faithful Shepherd, lead me
Where Thy steps are seen.

Hold me fast, and guide me
In the narrow way;
So, with Thee beside me,
I shall never stray.

Daily bring me nearer
To the heav’nly shore;
Make my faith grow clearer,
May I love Thee more.

Hallow every pleasure,
Every gift and pain;
Be Thyself my treasure,
Though none else I gain.

Day by day prepare me
As Thou seest best,
Then let angels bear me
To Thy promised rest.

The Winter Trail…

On Wednesday we had a dry day with some sun breaking through the clouds and I was happy that our daughter Katie agreed to join me on a walk on our favorite trail.

2014-01-15 winter trailWe start out on the Sammamish River Trail close to downtown Bothell and heading west it soon becomes the Burke-Gilman Trail.

winter trail 002It was so nice to have a dry day for some exercise. Thirty minutes out and thirty minutes back is our standard plan. That translates to about three miles at our pace.

winter trail 003The reflections on the river were exceptional.

winter trail 009

We were dressed for the cold. Katie had her ear muffs and gloves. I walk a little warmer and didn’t need muffs or gloves on this day.

The Canadian Geese were out in numbers and squawking quite loudly.

More reflections in the river.

winter trail 021The best treat during our walk besides the good feeling that our heart rates were being elevated was spotting this eagle!

winter trail 022

winter trail 032I’m still hoping to make walking part of my weekly habit. It is so much easier to get motivated to step out and walk when the weather is dry.

Where do you like to walk?

…we want to wish our son Daniel the happiest of birthdays!

Palisade 003Today is Daniel’s birthday. He gets to celebrate twice this week since his girlfriend’s birthday was on the 15th. Happy Birthday dear Dan! Happy belated birthday Jamie!

If you head over to MGCC you’ll see the apple tart I made from the apples off Dan’s property that he prepped so nicely and froze for me. We so enjoy Dan’s kindness and generous heart. He’s not a man of many words but when the time is right he speaks up. His one liners really make us laugh.

IMGP8700

danbday89This was taken on Dan’s birthday in 1989. He’s the one in the green, yellow and blue t-shirt with the big smile. He loved choo choo train cakes. My photo skills were questionable with good old fashioned film.

This last photo was from our journey moving from California to Washington back in July of 1988. We stopped at Aunt Carol’s house in Yuba City and  our kids got to ride one of their horses. I think it’s great that Dan gets to ride horses regularly all these years later in his new environment in Eastern Washington.

oldphotos005Left to right: Aunt Carol, Dan, Josh, and Katie

Gone are the days that being all together on each of our birthdays is a reality or expected. Separated by distance we take full advantage of the times we are all together and try to celebrate to the full.

We’ve been happy to have some dry days here in the Seattle area. The sun has even managed to shine through here and there. How are things in your neck of the woods?

Winter Note Cards

It’s time for Vee’s January Note Card Party.

I’m going back to 2009 and our walks on the beach at Emma Wood in Ventura. While Dear and I were living in Camarillo, California we would get up very early on Saturday mornings to head north to Ventura for a walk at the beach. These shots are all from January 10, 2009. I’m adding a poem by Ralph Spaulding Cushman from his Hilltop Verses and Prayers.

The Secret

I met God in the morning
When my day was at its best,
And His Presence came like sunrise,
Like a glory in my breast.

All day long the Presence lingered,
All day long He stayed with me,
And we sailed in perfect calmness
O’er a very troubled sea.

Other ships were blown and battered,
Other ships were sore distressed,
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Brought to us a peace and rest.

Then I thought of other mornings,
With a keen remorse of mind,
When I too had loosed the moorings,
With the Presence left behind.

So I think I know the secret,
Learned from many a troubled way:
You must seek Him in the morning
If you want Him through the day!

A prayer of the fisher folk:

Help me, O God, for my boat is so small and Thy ocean is so wide! Amen

We are so happy to be back in Washington State but I do miss our early Saturday beach walks. Thank you Vee for hosting the monthly Note Card Party.

Photobucket replaced many of my photos with blurred out versions and photobucket stamped versions. They are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

Early Celebrations…

Both of our sons were born in January. We celebrated our oldest son Josh’s birthday early this past Friday. After our trip with Josh and Laura to England in September we’ve been carrying a British theme through our celebrations. We met for dinner at The Three Lions Pub and then came home for cake and presents.

Josh 002

2014-01-11 Josh

Josh 001We had a good time celebrating Josh. He has added so much joy to our lives and we thank God for him.

Joshua’s actual birthday is on the 19th. He will be at Lakeside Bible Camp directing Junior High Winter camp.

Today we are sending off packages and cards across the world and country. Our Dan’s birthday is on the 16th and we won’t be able to celebrate face to face this year. We’re sending another care package to Afghanistan. We are so thankful for the U.S.A.’s  APO/FPO post office service that allows us to ship packages for such a reasonable rate. We pay a little over $14.00 for a Large Flate Rate Box! Our favorite little almost 6 year old in Texas will be getting a package in the mail soon, too.

We have been promised some dry days…maybe we’ll even have some sun breaks! I’m excited. What are you looking forward to this week?

Sunlit Sunday

Sunlit Sunday is a meme hosted by My Little Home and Garden. I’m joining in and if you click over you will see some other sunlit themed photos.

Seattle was all abuzz this weekend because of the Seattle Seahawks and their run for the Super Bowl. They won their game on Saturday which I was happy about because a loss would have put our city into a sports depression. I’m more of a Soccer fan but I support my football enjoying friends. My husband’s office building won an award for their display of 12th man support for the Seahawks.

1496599_10202975424054851_2001776599_nYep he works in one of the offices behind that huge 12!

To join in the Seattle fan fun we had a big pot of chili and cornbread ready when my sister and her hubby came over to enjoy the game with us on Saturday. Tomorrow I’ll share about the celebration we had on Friday night. How was your weekend?

From Glory Unto Glory ~ Hymn

From Glory Unto Glory

From glory unto glory! Be this our joyous song,
As on the King’s own highway we bravely march along!
From glory unto glory! O word of stirring cheer,
As dawns the solemn brightness of one more glad new year.

Our own belovèd Master hath many things to say.
Look forward to His teaching, unfolding day by day;
To whispers of His Spirit, to insight clear and sweet,
To blessèd consolation, while resting at His feet.

From glory unto glory! Our faith hath seen the King.
We own His matchless beauty, adoringly we sing;
But He hath more to show us! O thought of untold bliss!
And on we press rejoicing in blessèd hope to this:—

To marvelous outpourings of treasures new and old,
To largess of His bounty, paid in the King’s own gold,
To glorious expansion of mysteries of grace,
To radiant unveilings of brightness from His face.

From glory unto glory! What great things He hath done,
What wonders He hath shown us, what triumphs He hath won!
We marvel at the record of blessings of the year!
But sweeter still than Christmas rings out His promise clear—

That greater things, far greater, our longing eyes shall see!
We can but wait and wonder what greater things shall be!
But glorious fulfillments rejoicingly we claim,
While pleading in the power of His prevailing name.

From glory unto glory! What mighty blessings crown
The lives for which our Lord hath laid His own so freely down!
Omnipotence to keep us, omniscience, too, to guide,
Jehovah’s blessèd presence within us to abide!

The fullness of His blessing encompasseth our way;
The fullness of His promise crowns every brightening day;
The fullness of His glory is beaming from above,
While more and more we realize the fullness of His love.

From glory unto glory! Without a shade of care,
Because the Lord who loves us will every burden bear;
Because we trust Him fully, and know that He will guide,
And know that He will keep us at His belovèd side.

From glory unto glory! Though tribulation fall,
It cannot touch our treasure, when Christ is All in All!
Whatever lies before us, there can be naught to fear,
For what are pain and sorrow when Jesus Christ is near?

From glory unto glory! O marvels of the Word!
With open face beholding the glory of the Lord,
We, even we (O wonder!) are changed into the same,
The image of our Savior, to glorify His name.

Abiding in His presence, and walking in the light,
And seeking to do always what is pleasing in His sigh;
We look to Him to keep us all glorious within,
Because the blood of Jesus is cleansing from all sin.

The things behind forgetting, we only gaze before
From glory unto glory, that shineth more and more,
Because our Lord hath said it, that such shall be our way,
(O splendor of the promise!) unto the perfect day.

From glory unto glory! Our fellow travelers still
Are gathering on the journey! The bright electric thrill
Of quick, instinctive union, more frequent and more sweet,
Shall swiftly pass from heart to heart in true and tender beat.

And closer yet, and closer, the golden bonds shall be,
Enlinking all who love our Lord in pure sincerity;
And wider yet, and wider, shall circling glory glow,
As more and more are taught our God’s mighty love to know.

O ye who seek the Savior, look up in faith and love;
Come up into the sunshine, so bright and warm above!
No longer tread the valley, but, clinging to His hand,
Ascend the shining summits and view the glorious land.

Our harp notes should be sweeter, our trumpet tones more clear,
Our anthems ring so grandly that all the world must hear!
O royal be our music, for who hath cause to sing
Like choruses of saved ones, the children of the King?

O, let our adoration for all that He hath done
Peal out beyond the heavens, while voice and life are one;
And let our consecration be real, and deep, and true.
O even now our hearts bow, and joyful vows renew!

In full and glad surrender we give ourselves to Thee,
Thine utterly, and only, and evermore to be!
O Son of God, who lov’st us, we will be Thine alone,
Our being and possessions, shall henceforth be Thine own!

Now onward, ever onward, from strength to strength we go,
While grace for grace abundant shall from His fullness flow,
To glory’s full fruition, from glory’s foretaste here,
Until His very presence crown happiest new year.

Lots to be Thankful For…

So many blessings to think about and be thankful for. Today I’m joining Susanne at Living to Tell the Story with Friday’s Fave Five . My Favorites for this week will revolve around Katie’s trip to Southern California. For those of you who don’t visit very often our daughter Katie has been living with us since September while our Son-in-Law, Andrew is serving with the Marine Corp in Afghanistan. She will be with us until his return sometime in the Spring. When we get a more definitive return date she and I will drive their car and some belongings across country from Washington to North Carolina and try to set up some type of living arrangement before his arrival. Now I’m ready with the Five…

1. That Katie could spend some time with my dear old pop while she was in Southern California. The photo above is of the two of them from last year at the senior apartment building where he lives.

Disney winter

2. That Katie was able to spend 2 fun packed days at Disneyland with some of her cousins. The goal was to see Disneyland while it was still all decorated for Christmas. Katie’s cousins have Disney year long passes and Katie was able to get a great 3 day pass for a good military discount.

3. I was talking to my pop this morning and he was telling me that he thanks God every day for his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. It is so pleasing to see how well this group of cousins gets along and how much they love each other. The above photo was taken in Southern California in March of 2013.

T-Day and after 001

4. From December 3rd thru January 19th we celebrate the birthdays of four of our children. I’m so thankful for each one of them and how unique they are. I’m also very thankful that they love each other and can talk to each other and laugh at each other! Tonight we will be celebrating Josh about 9 days early but he’ll be gone next weekend serving at Junior High Winter camp so like always we go with the flow and celebrate whenever we can.

P1040734This photo is from Laura’s birthday celebration early in December…

Andrew training

5. We are thankful for our son-in-law, Andrew. He is serving all of us in harms way. I like to post this photograph every so often to remind anyone who visits here that many of our young men and women are away from the comforts of home serving our country and to remind us to pray for them that they will return home safe and sound. Semper Fi!

What are you thankful for today?
