Before and After ~

Like BooMama I had high hopes to show you some before and after photos from the big project at our house…the basement. But alas we aren’t anywhere near the “after” stage yet so I defaulted to this smaller project that I’m working on.

These are some of my many tablecloths. This type of storage makes them hard to get to, to see, and to stay wrinkle free. I’ve been wanting to change this for a long time.

Now this is much better. I can see them more easily and they don’t get wrinkled. I’m still in process. I have lots of tablecloths. The next stage to this process is to arrange them in sizes. My table has 6 leaves so I use several different tablecloth sizes depending on how many people will be seated around my table.

I’m going to leave you with a photo of the stage our basement is in even though I’m not the one working on this project. My involvement includes feeding the crew and keeping them hydrated. Once in a while I have to make a mad dash to the Home Depot for a needed item. :0)

San Francisco ~ Suggestions Please

Does anyone out there know San Francisco? I get to spend a few days there in December while Dear attends a conference. He’ll be busy for a lot of the day so I’ll be on my own to view the city with my blogger eyes and camera. The last time Dear and I were in San Francisco was in 1974 one night of our honeymoon. So here are my questions…

1. What do I need to make sure I see? And what should I avoid?

2. Do you have any restaurant suggestions? How about one really nice place to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary on Saturday December 6th!

3. Do you know some great free attractions?

4. What museum is worth it?

5. Should I drive out of town to see something close by?

Any input will be appreciated.

A Jaunt to Seattle

This is a blueberry bush in my yard in Washington. It is so vibrant with Fall colors this time of year. This photo is from my archives.

Dear and I are headed to Seattle for a long weekend. We have some work to do around the house and I get to go see my hairdresser.  My grey is calling her name…Sherri, Sherri…

It will be nice to see our kids and spend some time with them. Our son Dan is hunting in Colorado right now for Elk with his bow. We’ll see him when he gets back on Sunday.

Oh and we’re guaranteed not to be awakened by screaming, thumping noises coming from above. Dear and my bedroom suite in Seattle is on the 3rd floor of our home. Yippee!!  Yes, unfortunately the noise from above at our condo continues and we’ve had to call 911 twice this week!

One of the fun things about this trip is that we happen to be on the same flight to Seattle with Lana G! She’ll be in First Class instead of with us “behind the curtain” but her hubby will be able to pick us all up and deliver us home.

I’m wondering if my walking buddies are up for a walk on Saturday on the Burke Gilman? I’ll be there at 9:00 if you’ll be there at 9:00.

I never know how blogging will go on these quick trips. So if you don’t see me around you’ll understand why.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

This week my Vintage Thingies Post is something I was so intrigued with when I was younger. This comes from my MIL Verna’s stuff again. She had a hard time getting rid of anything so we are enjoying a lot of her things now.

Does it look familiar?

Now you probably recognize what it is.

Yep! One of those fun collapsible cups. Maybe if we kept these around our landfills wouldn’t be filled with plastic water bottles. Yeah right!

For more Vintage goodies head over to the Apron Queen.

WFW ~ Micah 7:18,19

Micah 7: 18, 19 ~

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

Southern Methodist Episcopal Church ~ Ventura

This Historical Landmark Carpenter Gothic church was built as Southern Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888. It was a wedding chapel for some time and was converted into a B&B and now it’s for sale.

On one of our Saturday walks in Downtown Ventura, California we decided it deserved a look see. The church is on Main Street.

These handles look like coffin handles to us…

So if anyone has $1,750,000 and wants to run a B&B this could be the place for you!

J is for Jameson Whiskey

“If By Whiskey” Noah S. Sweat, Mississippi, 1948

Although Prohibition had been repealed, it was still a big political issue in Mississippi in 1948, when Noah Sweat was campaigning for the office of state representative in Alcorn County. So Sweat gave a speech intended to appeal to both sides of the issue. He won the election, and went on to serve as prosecutor and eventually Judge of the First Judicial District.

My friends, I had not intended to discuss this controversial subject at this particular time. However, I want you to know that I do not shun controversy. On the contrary. I will take a stand on any issue at any time, regardless of how fraught with controversy it might be. You have asked me how I feel about whiskey. All right, here is how I feel about whiskey.

If when you say whiskey you mean the devil’s brew, the poison scourge, the bloody monster, that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home, creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths of little children; if you mean the evil drink that topples the Christian man and woman from the pinnacle of righteous, gracious living into the bottomless pit of degradation, and despair, and shame and helplessness, and hopelessness, then certainly I am against it.

But;

If when you say whiskey you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman’s step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life’s great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, and dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm; to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it.

This is my stand. I will not retreat from it. I will not compromise.

-Noah S. Sweat, 1948

Happy Fall Everyone!

Before September slips away…

“The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

Welcome to Tablescape Tuesday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. This week I’m sharing a Bridal Shower Tablescape.

I’ve been experimenting with a new Picasa program. Here’s something new in collage formatting for me.
