Jesus Said, April Bible Verse Challenge

For the month of April the challenge each Thursday is to share verses from the Bible that are a direct quote from our Lord Jesus. Since this is Easter week and today we think about the Last Supper, I’m choosing verses from the Lord’s last words to the Disciples before he was arrested and crucified. Feel free to share a portion of scripture to keep things in context. Share in the comments or on your blog and I’ll add your verses below.

Because our challenge is beginning on Maundy Thursday I’m switching my selections to these verses from John 13

GOTW-practice035

Excerpts from John chapter 13…

It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;  so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.  “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

From Vera:

“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:16-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From HappyOne:

Jesus speaking to the thief on the cross.

Luke 23:43 KJV

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shall thou be with me in paradise.

Truth from A to Z Bible Verse Challenge, Y is for…

We are winding down on our A to Z Bible Verse Challenge with 2 more letters to go. This weeks letter is Y. Please share your verse/verses in the comments and I will add them to this post.

I’m sharing a portion of scripture from 2 Corinthians this week.

Y is for Yes:

2 Corinthians 1:17-22 (ESV)

…Do I make my plans according to the flesh, ready to say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time? As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

From Vera:

Y is for YOU AND YOUR

“And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37‬ ‭(NASB1995)‬‬

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭(NASB1995)

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9‬ ‭(NASB1995‬‬)

From Patricia

Y is for Yes:

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
Philippians 3:10

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Revelation 22:20

From Happyone:

Y is for YOUTH,

1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy YOUTH; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Truth from A to Z ~ W is for…

Here we are in the first week of March and the letter for our challenge this Thursday is W. March is the last month in this particular challenge. We’ll end with Z on the 25th of March. Next week I wanted to remind you that you can choose any verse with a word that has the letter X somewhere within the word. I’m thinking about a different challenge for the month of April so stay tuned.

W is for Whose, Word, What, Walk

Psalm 56: 9-13

This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

From Maristella: So WISDOM :

“Where there is strife, there is pride,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.”

James 3:13

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere”.

V is for Victory:

1 Corinthians 15: 54-57 (ESV)

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory, O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 5: 4-5 (ESV)

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

From Cheryl: Verily, verily (Truly, truly)

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily [truly, truly], I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”

From Vera: V is for Value

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From Maristella: V is for VOICE :

Truth from A to Z ~ S is for…

Hello February! Today we are on the letter S in our Bible Verse Challenge. The sky is the limit on the verses you can come up with. As usual leave your verse/verses in the comments and I’ll add them to this post. Thank you in advance!

This passage from Psalm 28 is loaded with words that begin with S.

S is for Strength, Shield, Song, Saving, Save, Shepherd

Psalm 28:6-9 ~ Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

From Vera: S is for SUFFICIENT

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From Bethany: S is for Sing and Song

Click over to her blog Raindrops and Rainbows to read her post and verses!

From Patsy: S is for Spiritual Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (NASB)

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

From Maristella: S is for SHINE :

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26
And :
“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1
And :
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:5

Truth from A to Z ~ R is for…

It’s the last week in January of 2021 and that brings us to the letter R. So many rich verses with words that begin with R. It’s always hard to choose just one or two or three.

Share the verse/verses you have come up with in the comments and I’ll add them to this post. Enjoy searching and digging!

Besides my current Bible reading in Luke and Proverbs I’m reading a Psalm a day. For my verse this week I’m sharing from Psalm 25. The whole Psalm is so good…

R is for Remember:

Psalm 25:6-7 ~ Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!

From Cheryl: R is for Rich

” But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 2:4-7

Visit Bethany at Raindrops and Rainbows for her verses on remember.

From Patricia: R is for Remember, Rise, Remembered, Risen

Luke 24:6-8 He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” And they remembered His words.

From Vera: R is for Redeemed

“You have taken up my cause, O Lord; you have redeemed my life.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:58‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From Maristella: R is for Righteous, Righteousness and Rebuking

” I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8
AND:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17

From Cindy: R is for Rock and Refuge

Psalm 18:2 ‘The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.’

“The Lord is our safe place, a place where we can find comfort and peace. He’s our shelter in the storm and we’ve certainly been in a storm the last year or so! He’s our foundation, a solid place to stand on when we need confidence and reassurance. He is my Rock and my Refuge!”

From Wendy: R is for Renewed

Renewed — Ephesians 4:23

I’ll let you all look that one up and read the whole paragraph from verse 17 to 24!

Truth from A to Z Bible Verse Challenge ~ Q

January is moving along and we have come to the letter Q. Choices might seem easier this week as the letter Q has a shorter quantity of words in our Concordances! Enjoy your search and thank you very much for sharing your verse or verses in the comments here and I’ll add them to this post as soon as I can.

Q is for Quarrelsome:

Proverbs 21:9 (ESV)

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

From Cheryl: Q is for Quicken:

“Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth” Psalms 119:88

From Vera:

Q is for QUALITIES:

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:5-9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Visit Bethany at her blog by clicking here https://raindropsrainbows.blogspot.com/

Her word is quieted with some inspirational thoughts, too.

From Maristella:

Q is for QUIET:
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside *quiet* waters.”
Psalm 23:1-2
And
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and *quiet* spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
1 Peter 3:3-4

From Happyone:

Q is for Quench:

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to QUENCH all the fiery darts of the wicked.

From Patsystitch:

Q is for Quarrelsome:

2 Timothy 2:24
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,
