Pink Saturday ~ My Babushka Vera

This is my Maternal Grandmother at my sister Vera’s wedding in 1969. She looks so sweet in pink! I really loved my grandmother. She only had one hand. One of her arms was amputated from her elbow down when she was young. She immigrated to the U.S.A. alone without my grandfather who was murdered in Iran in the late 40’s. She did more with her one hand than a lot of people do with two. Her embroidery was amazing. My Babushka Vera died in March of 1980. She was a Godly woman who prayed for all her grandchildren and for all her grandchildren’s future spouses. I am so looking forward to seeing her in heaven.

The tablecloth above was the cloth she embroidered for our sister Vera as a wedding gift.

This is a tablecloth and napkins my babushka embroidered for us as a wedding gift. In keeping with the Pink Saturday theme here’s another tablecloth I have that she embroidered.

Tablescape Tuesday ~ French Duvet & Blue

It’s time to visit Susan again at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Tuesday.

This week my inspiration came from a Goodwill purchase I made last week. The tablecloth on this table is actually a twin french ruffle duvet that I bought for $7.95. It’s from the Target Shabby Chic line and sells in the store with a pillow sham for $59 or $69 (I forget which). I came home pulled it out of the package (still pretty wrinkly) and gathered up everything I could find in blue or white in the condo.

The main patterned dishes are Johnson Bros. Indies. I purchased all the different pieces of this pattern at different times at Goodwill or other thrift stores. The Teapot is Blue Danube (Japan). The larger blue-gray plates are from a Target Holiday line a couple years ago that I bought on a really good clearance. I even bought the great silverplate with the letter B engraved on them from Goodwill. The little white jar with lid is Villeroy and Boch. Nothing on this table was purchased at full-price retail.

Top Left photo I’m the second one in. Top Right, I’m on the right standing. Bottom Left 2nd one in. Middle right I’m on the right kneeling and bottom right I’m on the far left.

This is a current thrift store find of this lovely looking lady embroidered on this little tablecloth topper.

Tablescape Tuesday ~ Simple Spring

It might not be Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere but it is in the Southern Hemisphere so here is a simple Spring tablescape I created for St. Patrick’s Day.

Vintage Thingies Thursdays ~ Red & Yellow Tablecloth

This is another tablecloth from my MIL Verna. I love the bright cheery colors in this one. Verna had quite a stash of goodies. This cloth is really too small to use on my larger tables. It would be great on a small table for 4. I think it would look fabulous with some green or yellow dishes.

Before and After ~

Like BooMama I had high hopes to show you some before and after photos from the big project at our house…the basement. But alas we aren’t anywhere near the “after” stage yet so I defaulted to this smaller project that I’m working on.

These are some of my many tablecloths. This type of storage makes them hard to get to, to see, and to stay wrinkle free. I’ve been wanting to change this for a long time.

Now this is much better. I can see them more easily and they don’t get wrinkled. I’m still in process. I have lots of tablecloths. The next stage to this process is to arrange them in sizes. My table has 6 leaves so I use several different tablecloth sizes depending on how many people will be seated around my table.

I’m going to leave you with a photo of the stage our basement is in even though I’m not the one working on this project. My involvement includes feeding the crew and keeping them hydrated. Once in a while I have to make a mad dash to the Home Depot for a needed item. :0)

Vintage Thingies Thursdays ~

Boy these weeks fly by. It’s time for some more vintage at Confessions of an Apron Queen so I’m showing another of my vintage tablecloths passed down from Verna, Dear’s mother. Even her name is vintage…

I decided to include this collage so that you can see all the bunches of fruit on the cloth.

Vintage Thingees Thursday ~ The 2nd

It’s time again for Vintage Thingies Thursdays at Confessions of An Apron Queen!

I’m not sure if these vintage pot holders/hot pads are from Dear’s mother Verna or Dear’s Great, Great Aunt Emma. Either way they qualify for vintage…

Oh, A Thrifting We Will Go ~

Oh, A thrifting we will go
a thrifting we will go
Hi ho the derio
a thrifting we will go..

So my sister Lana, our niece Michelle, my daughter-in-law Laura, and I met at Goodwill on Saturday morning to have a shopping party together. Michelle has been in Washington since Tuesday for a wedding and a visit. She is donning an apron that she was considering. This is our sorting out stage of shopping. We first load the carts with everything we think we might want, then when we’ve had enough shopping we sort through everything and decide what we really don’t want.

Some of the goodies I’ve acquired this week. I love the little saying on the blue plate from England. “When two fond hearts as one unite the yoke is easy and the burden light”

I love to mix lace and another color tablecloth for tea tables or just for some old fashioned fun. I’m a sucker for tablecloths and the two I bought today were unique and in very good shape. I’m looking forward to making some sweet treats in these Petite heart pans. Think of the possibilities.

This hand made tablecloth is a very interesting color and the work is so detailed on it. I just couldn’t walk away from it. Well, I could have walked away but I didn’t want to.

While we were shopping my two sons were home preparing a great barbecue for us hard working shoppers. It was so good. They decided on hamburgers and to go with the hamburgers they made carmelized onions, guacamole, bacon, a fruit salad and baked beans. We had my Rice Krispy Bars for dessert. What a feast it was. We felt blessed.

Ok my sister Lana G! really has a talent at presenting her treasures in a beautiful way. She spent the most of all of us. Check out her treasures here.

Set The Tea Table ~ Bavarian Dishes

Some of you know already that I’m living in a small condo in Southern California right now and my regular home with my kids and my stuff is in the Seattle Area of Washington. Most of my tea goodies and entertaining goodies are in Washington. I didn’t have any tea-cups and saucers in California until today! Look at the bargain I found at a thrift store in our little downtown today.

6 cups and saucers, 6 dessert plates, 5 salad plates, and a creamer. It’s Bavarian H & Co. china. Now here’s the real exciting thing, I got all of this for $15.00!! Now I’m going to be able to have a fun tea here in California with the goodies I found today and with what I can add from the condo stash. Here’s my mock tea table without food.

The inside of the tea-cups are iridescent.

“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly. “I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I can’t take more.” “You mean you can’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.” ~ Lewis Carroll ~ Alice In Wonderland

Oh and the store threw this Bavarian bowl in for nothing!
