Ruby Tuesday ~ Matryoshka Doll

My heritage is Russian and I have a collection of Russian Keepsakes around my home. This is one of my Matryoshka Nesting Dolls that my mother and father bought in Russia a few years back.

A set of matryoshkas consists of a wooden figure which can be pulled apart to reveal another figure of the same sort inside. It has, in turn, another figure inside, and so on. The number of nested figures is usually five or more. The shape is mostly cylindrical, rounded at the top for the head and tapered towards the bottom, but little else; the dolls have no hands (except those that are painted). Traditionally the outer layer is a woman, dressed in a sarafan. Inside, it contains other figures that may be of both genders, usually ending in a baby that does not open. The artistry is in the painting of each doll, which can be extremely elaborate.

Matryoshkas are often designed to follow a particular theme, for instance peasant girls in traditional dress, but the theme can be anything, from fairy tale characters to Soviet leaders.

Photobucket is holding all my photos from 2007-2015 hostage and demanding a ransom for me to access them. I’m slowly cleaning up many of my posts where PB have added ugly black and grey boxes where my photos used to be. So frustrating!

Vintage Thingies Thursdays ~ Red & Yellow Tablecloth

This is another tablecloth from my MIL Verna. I love the bright cheery colors in this one. Verna had quite a stash of goodies. This cloth is really too small to use on my larger tables. It would be great on a small table for 4. I think it would look fabulous with some green or yellow dishes.

Photobucket is holding my photos hostage from 2007-2015 and replacing them with an ugly black and grey squares demanding money to release them, so frustrating.

Vintage Thingies Thursdays

These are more of our Vintage goodies from my Mil Verna. My husband and his brother both wanted the cowboy bookends so we split them up. We have 8 matching glasses to go with the pitcher. I should have filled them with something for the photo :0)

Photobucket is holding all my photos from 2007-2015 hostage on their site. All my photos that I stored and uploaded from that site are now big ugly black and grey boxes with a message to pay big bucks to get them restored to my blog. It will take me a long time to restore thousands of posts.

Blue Monday ~ Beatrix Potter

I never get tired of sharing my sweet Beatrix Potter collection and I hope you aren’t tired of seeing them. These are the animals in my collection that have a lot of blue on them. I started my collection in 1973 when I was in England and added to them over a few years.

For more Blue or to join in the fun visit Sally our kind hostess here.

Today is a travel day for me so if I don’t get by today I’ll swing by tomorrow to see your blue.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

This week my Vintage Thingies Post is something I was so intrigued with when I was younger. This comes from my MIL Verna’s stuff again. She had a hard time getting rid of anything so we are enjoying a lot of her things now.

Does it look familiar?

Now you probably recognize what it is.

Yep! One of those fun collapsible cups. Maybe if we kept these around our landfills wouldn’t be filled with plastic water bottles. Yeah right!

Vintage Thingies Thursdays

I was going to skip Vintage Thingies this week but when someone who was affected by Hurricane Ike and has damage all over her property is willing to keep playing who am I to take the week off? Hats off to Apron Queen for persevering and trying to keep things normal around her castle.

So here is a collage of some of my vintage thingies that live in my home in Washington State. I’ve probably said it before but I’m living in Southern California right now and I don’t have too many of my vintage items with me here.

Pink Saturday ~ Depression Glass

Welcome to Pink Saturday

All this Pink Depression Glass is from Dear’s Great, Great, Aunt Emma. It sat in a trunk for years and Dear’s mother never chose to empty the trunk and use anything in it. After Dear’s mother passed away I decided to pull it all out and use it. It’s goes well with my Royal Albert Moss Rose Pattern.

Thank you so much for visiting my Pink today. For more Pink Saturday Posts visit Beverly at her blog How Sweet the Sound.

Pink Saturday ~ Shopping and Walking

Today for Pink Saturday I’m sharing some photos from my walks in Camarillo, California and a great Home Decor Store that is housed in a old Farmhouse in Bothell, Washington. Have a great September Saturday everyone.

This is an interesting Bougainvillea that has been trained into a bush. We usually see these more spread out growing on fences and sides of homes or patios.

This was the Pink Room in the Cranberry Cottage on Bothell-Everett Highway in Bothell. Across the street from Country Village. They sell a combination of antique, collectibles, and new goodies.

Vintage Thingies Thursdays ~

Boy these weeks fly by. It’s time for some more vintage at Confessions of an Apron Queen so I’m showing another of my vintage tablecloths passed down from Verna, Dear’s mother. Even her name is vintage…

I decided to include this collage so that you can see all the bunches of fruit on the cloth.

Vintage Thingies Thursdays ~ Turquoise

This week for Vintage Thingies Thursday I’m sharing some of my vintage that happens to be turquoise in color.

These bathroom accessories are from my MIL Verna’s stash. She passed away in 1997 and had lived with us for several years so we got a lot of her stuff by default.

This little lady was hers, too. Verna grew up in the U.S.A. and was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in Kansas in the late 30’s.
