WFW ~ Proverbs 27:14

I love this little water color sketch I bought for my daughter years ago from Goodwill with this verse on it. We still get a big kick out of it. Kindness can be shown in very creative ways like understanding the difference between “morning people” and “night people”.

ABC Wednesday ~ Y is for

Y is for Yarrow Bay, Yakima Fruit Market, and the Yakima Indians.  All in the State of Washington, USA.

Yarrow Bay is in Kirkland, Washington. It is part of Lake Washington.

Some Yachts at Yarrow Bay…

Next I take you to Yakima Fruit Market in Bothell, Washington just up the road from Kirkland.

Besides fruits and vegetables and nuts and herbs the market sells flowers. At Christmas time they sell Christmas Trees. The market shuts down in winter (they only sell Christmas Trees from Thanksgiving thru Christmas) We get so excited to see their announcement that they are opening again come March because we know Spring has finally come…

Our most famous Yakima’s are the Yakima Indians. There is a city named Yakima in Eastern Washington closer to the Indian reservation.

Yakima (Ya-ki-ná, `runaway’). An important Shahaptian tribe, formerly living on both sides of the Columbia and on the northerly branches of the Yakima (formerly Tapteal) and the Wenatchee, in Washington. They are mentioned by Lewis and Clark in 1806 under the name Cutsahnim (possibly the name of a chief): and estimated as 1,200 in number, but there is no certainty as to the bands it eluded under that figure. In 1855 the United States made a treaty with the Yakima and 13 other tribes of Shahaptial, Salishan, and Chinookan stocks, by whit they ceded the territory from the Cascade mountains to Palouse and Snake rivers and from Lake Chelan to the Columbia, and the Yakima Reservation was established, upon which all the participating tribes and bands were to be confederated as the Yakima nation under the leadership of Kamaiakan, distinguished Yakima chief. Before the treaty could be ratified the Yakima war, broke out, and it was not until 1859 that the provisions of the treaty were carried into effect. The Paloos and certain other tribes have never recognized the treaty or come on the reservation. Since the establishment of the reservation the term Yakima has been generally used in comprehensive sense to include all their tribes within its limits, so that it is now impossible to estimate the number Yakima proper.  The total Indian population of the reservation was officially estimated at 1,900 in 1909, but of this number probably comparatively few are true Yakima. The native name of the Yakima is Waptailnsim, ‘people of the narrow river,’ or Pa’kiut’lĕma, ‘people of the gap,’ both names referring to the narrows in Yakima river at Union Gap, where their chief village was formerly situated.

The Big 5 Tour ~ Meme

My friend Bridget suggested this meme on her blog and look what she created for me. I copied it and posted it here.

She says ~

If you could travel with any famous person to any location who and where would you choose.

Here are the exciting details:

  • pick 5! 5 celebrities with 5 corresponding destinations (equaling 5 separate trips).
  • While you travel with them they are no longer and never were famous–They’re the same as we all know them, just not known. No paparazzi, no special accommodations, no star status. (this is more to see what personalities you’d want to travel with than getting to experience living large for a few months)
  • The relationship is platonic, just friends.
  • They can be celebrities who have passed away.
  • Please stick to real people and real locations and not characters and fantasy locations. Don’t worry: I’m going to be asking that question (books or movies) next 🙂
  • You CAN be creative….Mary Magdalene in Israel? Lance Armstrong in France? New York with Andrew Lloyd Webber? Hawaii with Obama? the possibilities are endless!
  • put your answers in the comments!
  • or post them on your blog and let me know so I can come have a look!

Ellen
Jane Austen in England

Sean Connery in ScotlandPierce Brosnan in IrelandSophia Loren in ItalyBobby Flay in NYC

So get creative, pack your bags and have some fun…

Thanks Bridget!

Ruby Tuesday

A favorite author of mine is George MacDonald and this is one of his stories that I really loved. It just happens to be Ruby bound so I’m sharing it.

And I saw these pretty little Ruby Flowers (Sweet Williams, thanks Lovella) at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens today and I’m throwing them into the Ruby post, too!

For more Ruby Tuesday Posts visit our lovely hostess Maryt at Work of the Poet.

More Thrift Store Treasures

So I’m back in the land of my favorite thrift stores. I found a few treasures already. My sister Lana’s haul was pretty darn good, too! We met at Goodwill on Saturday the 5th for an hour or two…

The first teacup is Chelsea Garden, Royal Grafton, Made in England, $2.99.

The Japanese Garden Scene Teacup just says Japan on the bottom. I liked them because they reminded me of the Japanese Gardens in Seattle. I purchased 5 of them for .49 cents each.

The last sweet tea cup and saucer are Bluebird Fine Bone China, Made in Canada. The tea cup was $.99 and the saucer was $.99.

This cute set of 5 tea cups and saucers are from Japan. I love the design inside each cup, as well as the outside. Each set was $1.48 so $7.40 for the set of 5 before tax! Since we are on a tea theme my last purchase was this Tea Cozy that was made in England for $1.49.

Someday someone will have a fine Estate Sale with all my accumulated “moth and rust will destroy” treasures! Blessings on y’all!

What Dear Did On His Summer Vacation ~

Dear’s company shuts down the week of July 4th so this was a free week off for him. While in Washington he was very busy cleaning out our garage. He and our son Dan took 700 lbs. of junk stuff to the dump. They cleared out and reorganized the garage.  For the first time since we’ve lived in this house we can park 3 cars in our upper garage.

Beautiful! Now this next collage shows you our Toyota Car Museum.

When my car goes back to California in August our son’s truck will take over my spot and our garage will become more diversified since his truck is a Ford.

Below this Garage is a shop where 3 vehicles that are being worked on are stored and a few motorcycles. Makes me feel a little better about all the dishes I own. Not that it’s a competition or anything…

Buried With Christ ~ Hymn

Buried With Christ

(words by T. Ryder)

Buried with Christ and raised with Him, too,
What is there left for me to do?
Simply to cease from struggling and strife,
Simply to walk in newness of life.

Refrain

Buried with Christ and dead unto sin;
Dying but living, Jesus within;
Ruling and reigning day after day,
Guiding and keeping all of the way.

Risen with Christ my glorious Head,
Holiness now the pathway I tread;
Beautiful thought from walking therein,
He that is dead is freed from all sin.

Refrain

Living with Christ, who dieth no more,
Following Christ, who goeth before;
Not under law, I’m now under grace,
Sin is dethroned, and Christ takes its place.

Refrain

4th of July at Our House

Do you know why bloggers wear aprons when they are hosting a party? Why to have a pocket for their camera, of course! So convenient, always at your side, or front as the pocket may be…

So we ended up having 14 over for a meal, conversation, Ticket to Ride, and more. The doc and his wife couldn’t make it because someone’s baby decided to be born on the 4th of July.

Of course there was enough food for 24. That’s the curse of growing up in a large family, you tend to make way more and buy way more than you really need :0)

Some of the “Usual Suspects”. We always love it when little Finn gets to come and he brings his parents along. Oops, I didn’t get pictures of his parents but I did get some of his Auntie Jamie.

Finn loves our son Josh. He’s helping Josh make some strategic moves in the game Ticket to Ride. Ticket to Ride is a cross country train adventure.

We learned this great trick from Finn’s grandmother, Jody. This is the quick way to baby proof your cabinets. This is a hair thingee, pony tail thingee, you know what I mean. You just twist it around the knobs.

We ended our meal with some Russian Royal Tea of Czar Nicholas II.

It was a wonderful day and a lovely celebration of our freedom in the USA. Blessings on y’all.

Photo Hunters ~ Pointed

The godwits are a group of large, long-billed, long-legged and strongly migratory wading birds of the genus Limosa. They form large flocks on coasts and estuaries in winter. I took this photo of the Godwit in March at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, California. I think it’s bill qualifies for “Pointed”.

Walk About the Yard

I’m in the Seattle area spending 6 weeks at my home here. I took a stroll about the yard to see what was blooming and growing.

We’ve got some wild blackberry blossoms, our apples and pears are maturing, the hydrangea is promising a few blooms, the lavender is in it’s glory and the blueberries are still green but plumping up.

I’m still getting my bearings here in my house. I decided to tackle a few rooms at a time for cleaning and organizing. On Tuesday I deep cleaned the kitchen and dusted the living room. Yesterday I got everything presentable except for my Master Bedroom. We’re having 16 for the 4th and I wanted the main living areas clean. Saturday I’ll tackle my bedroom, it’s on the 3rd floor all by itself so I felt fine leaving it till last and after our company on the 4th. Dear goes back to California on Sunday and then he flies back up to Seattle for the first two weeks in August. I’ll be able to get a lot of weeding in while he’s gone.

A very happy 4th to all you in the U.S.A.  and a very happy Friday to my friends in other parts of the world. My flag waving post for the 4th is just below this so scroll on down if you’d like…
