Friday Snow Day

On Friday Katie, Laura and Addy built snowmen while JJ napped. They went to the garden to dig up the carrots for the noses!

Daniel put on the snow plow attachment and plowed the mile long drive for our travels to and from their home at the top of their mountain.

Our kids are more than halfway on their journey home expecting arrival before dark. I’ll have a few photo loaded posts to memorialize our 4th Annual Hunting Weekend.

The guys had a new experience this year hunting in the snow…

Last year Josh got his buck and this year it was Dan.

Catch Up Day

On Friday the twenty third of October we got enough snow for Laura, Katie and Addy to build a couple snowmen while Jaymison napped.

At home the morning after I took this shot of our backyard to document the fact that we got closer to 6 inches instead of the 4-1/2 inches predicted.

A lot has melted already and soon all the white layers will be gone till the next snowfall. Our kids will be on the road heading back West later this morning or early afternoon. It’s a catch up day for me. Hope all is well where you are…

Departure and Arrivals

After being in Washington state for 3 full weeks it was time to put the Washington State sticker on Wholly Rollin’s travel map.

Thursday morning the 22nd of October was departure day for this dear family and their rig.

Thursday was a beautiful Fall day but our grass area under the truck tires was soggy and soft and the back wheels of the truck were spinning in the mud. Oye.

Dear came to the rescue with his 4 wheel drive truck and a heavy duty chain.

Success!

The truck and rig were free to continue on the Wholly Rollin adventure on to Kennewick, Washington and then into Oregon.

It was a privilege to enjoy my brother’s family for an extended period of time.

Until we meet again may God continue to direct your paths and bless your journey.

On this same morning Josh and Laura departed from the west side of the Cascades on their journey to Colville for our annual Hunting weekend, a 5-1/2 hour trip. Little did any of us know that Providence would allow an intersection of our eastward travelers with our westward departed travelers! On their way on I-90 Wholly Rollin pulled off at the Sprague Rest Area just as Josh and Laura were passing Ritzville which is 20 miles west of Sprague. Leonard and Mandy decided to text Josh and Laura to see where they were on their journey and to both traveling groups delight they were able to meet up at the Sprague Rest Area.

A photo op some conversation and then both groups hit the road again for their final destinations.

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye!

Josh and Laura arrived to our place a little before four and these two couldn’t be happier to see their Uncle and Auntie. And then at 6:30 pm Uncle Andrew and Auntie Katie arrived and there was more excitement. We are anticipating a full weekend of fun and fellowship.

As I type on this Friday morning the snow is gently falling here in Colville. This was a surprise forecast this week and it will make hunting and family photo taking a little more interesting than usual. Our hunting crew were up on the mountain by six thirty AM this Friday morning.

Looking Back…

… to a time and place where we were able to head out at the last minute to a nearby “Happy Hour” with lots of good choices (2012 at the Beach House). Sigh.

Also looking back at early morning walks at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura (2009).

We are wondering what we can substitute for our cancelled trip to Great Britain. Time will tell. Maybe a new recliner. Haha!

We are getting summer heat this week getting hotter everyday with the highest temps expected on Thursday and Friday, 101 degrees. We’ll head south to do our Spokane shopping on thursday since it doesn’t make sense to work outside on the shop or in the yard in that heat.

Looking back, living today and looking forward to the future I will rejoice.

February 1st Walk About…

…our snowy backyard.

On Saturday the temperatures were in the upper 40’s and the sun was shining so we decided to walk about the yard and see some of the winter damage. The winds were coming in gusts so we did not walk too close to the trees. The wind was strong enough to down a lot of branches and trees around our area and to cause power outages. Our power stayed on.

Although we have not seen the deer we know by these tracks that they have definitely been in the yard. Their deposits and hoof prints are a lot more visible against the snow.

This tree suffered a lot of damage from the weight of the snow and winds. We have decided that it needs to come down soon. We will miss it. We will have quite a pile of branches from the front and rear trees for our burn pile.

Dear spotted more deer tracks down in the emptied pond.

One or more of the trees on the mountain behind us have fallen. We have a lot of work cut out for us come late Spring and Summer. If you look on the upper photo of the collage above you can see the fallen tree. I zoomed in on the other photos to get a close up.

The photo above shows how the tree split close to the base of the tree.

That blue sky was a welcomed treat!

Our Weeping Pussy Willow is leaning over from the weight of the snow. We hope we can save it. The only color in our yard right now besides the evergreens are these red berries.

It took several tries for me to be able to upload my photos today. The joy of country satellite connections. Oh and speaking of country we have Dish provider for TV. They cut the Fox channel that was televising the Superbowl game so we weren’t able to watch. There were a lot of angry Dish customers. Thank goodness the Seahawks weren’t playing. I was happy to hear that Kansas City ended up winning. Sorry San Francisco fans.

Happy Groundhog Day! I hear we are suppose to have an early Spring. Time will tell.

We had a good morning at church with Communion and a sermon from the book of Hebrews. We enjoyed the grandkids sitting with us and thankfully they were not disruptive. Quiet cuteness! Jaymison was entertained by the singing and watching all those people. Addy hopped from lap to lap. She had her parents, Gramps, Baba and Granny to keep her occupied. She did wonder why she couldn’t have the “crackers” when the gluten free matzah came around for the Communion service. During our benevolent offering which we always have after Communion one of our elementary kids played the offertory on the piano. So sweet that our young people can share their talents in our services.

Quail and Chewbacca…

We always get a big kick out of watching the quail around here year round.

Couldn’t resist sharing this fun photo of our son Josh getting a surprise embrace from Chewbacca at Disneyland today. Our kids enjoyed the day there with a few of their cousins. It was fun seeing what they enjoyed and the people they bumped into. Looked like an absolutely magical day at the Happiest Place on Earth.

9 Months!

Yesterday our little Jaymison Joshua reached his 9 month mark! These photos were put together by JJ’s mommy. Tonight I hope to capture some shots of him with my camera. That isn’t an easy proposition when we are hosting the birthday dinner party for Dan and Jamie. I’ll keep my camera out in the open so I remember!

I’m so thankful for our window views and our trees!

The cake is out of the oven. The table is set. (The theme of my table is frosty with the hope of Spring) The marinade is on the chicken. The dishwasher is emptied so we can fill it again. I’ll prep the veggies that will be roasted on a sheet pan with the chicken on the Traeger later this afternoon and toss the salad just before we eat. Now I’m off to wrap the presents!

Thursday Thoughts

This is the view from our desk where I read, study and blog on most days. I really appreciate the view. One of the books I am reading right now in my morning devotions besides the ever constant Bible is One Foundation (Essays on the Sufficiency of Scripture) compiled by Grace to You. This post is for me so I don’t forget what I’ve read and want to remember.

This is a quote from Spurgeon that Steven J. Lawson shared in his essay on The Standard of Sound Words: A Mandate for the Pulpit:

Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim. 1:13)

Spurgeon maintained,

Theology hath nothing new in it except that which is false. The preaching of Paul must be the preaching of the minister today. There is no advancement here. We may advance in our knowledge of it; but it stands the same, for this good reason, that it is perfect, and perfection cannot be any better. The old truth that Calvin preached, that Chrysostom preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach to-day, or else be a liar to my conscience and my God. I can not shape the truth. I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine. John Knox’s gospel is my gospel. That which thundered through Scotland must thunder through England again…For wherever there is not the old gospel we shall find “Ichabod” written upon the church walls ere long. The truth of the Covenanters, the old truth of the Puritans, the old truth of the Apostles, is the only truth that will stand the test of time, and never need to be altered to suit a wicked and ungodly generation. Christ Jesus preaches to-day the same as when he preached upon the mount; he hath not changed his doctrines; men may ridicule and laugh, but still they stand the same–semper idem* written upon every one of them. Spurgeon rightly understood the necessity of this theological continuity from one generation to the next. Cultures change. Seasons change. Fashions change. But the truth never changes.

From our house to yours, some views of our Country Bungalow yesterday when the sun was shining and the skies were blue.

And…

…so thankful for these boots that I bought at Goodwill before we moved to Colville. They were a bit pricey for Goodwill at $14.99 but I knew they were quality boots. Keen Dry boots which sell new at $100 or more. They are perfect for snow and temps below freezing. Great for snowshoeing, too.

We had a couple more inches of snow overnight.

Today is our son Dan’s birthday. We are happy and thankful to live in the same zipcode as him and his family. Happy Birthday to you dear son of ours!

We’ll be celebrating both Jamie and Dan’s birthdays tomorrow evening with a dinner here at our country bungalow.

Fun in the Snow

Addy loves the outdoors in every season!

More snow on the ground since these photos were taken by our DIL.

Happy to report their power came back on, finally, last evening.

On Monday I shoveled a path to our satellite devices to clear them off of snow. Not sure I would make it into a snow fashion magazine especially with my choice of summer hat!

Snowy days project. The priming and painting of our master bath cabinets and ceiling. We still need to pick the grey shade for the walls and buy the paint.

On Tuesday we woke up to a couple more inches of snow on top of the 14 inches we have on the ground already!

Bible Study Fellowship was cancelled this morning due to the snow and driving conditions. Some of the ladies drive from miles away from small country towns around Colville. Our studies in the book of Hebrews continues. We were in Hebrews 8, 9 and 10. I’ll miss that discussion. Next week we move on to 11, 12, and 13.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
