Wednesday we managed to mow half the lawn and then finished up this morning. We had another sunny day today up until about 3:45 and now we are having a few thunderstorms roll through. Dear and I picked up Katie today and headed to the Seattle Japanese Gardens where Katie enjoyed a Japanese Tea Ceremony course for one of her college classes. She wore a tank top today! Our warmest day to date this year.
Our journey home from Colville via Highway 231 on Tuesday April 18th started just on the outskirts of Chewelah. We turned west off of Highway 395 and continued south on 231 all the way to Interstate I-90 in Sprague. All the photos were taken from the passenger seat of our car.
We traveled through the small town of Valley, stopped to have breakfast in Springdale. Continuing south we passed through Ford, Long Lake, Reardon, Edwall then connected to the interstate in Sprague. We enjoyed going on this unfamiliar road instead of our usual trek down Hwy 395. Not having to deal with Division St. through Spokane was a treat!

So happy to report our drive over Snoqualmie pass was uneventful and smooth sailing.
The Ryegrass rest area was our first stop to change drivers. From this point to Vantage there was an Elk migration warning. We kept a keen eye on the road and the hillsides for Elk but didn’t see any.
The worst conditions we had were on Division driving through Spokane where the potholes were huge! Hwy 395 also had some potholes to watch for. Yikes. This winter has really taken a toll on the roads!
We made to our son and daughter in laws just before sunset and this is the view from part of their driveway (minor road) after switchback #1 and before switchback #2 and #3 that leads up to their home. Glad our 2 wheel drive did not get stuck in a rut on the driveway!
Today Dear is starting to paint the nursery and a dresser and toy box truck. I’ll be taking the dog for a walk when I see the outdoor temperature gauge rise above 20 degrees. Here’s a “good morning” view from Dan and Jamie’s world.
Being on the road most of the day yesterday made for a dismal amount of steps for me. We’ll see what today yields. I hope to get around to blogs later this afternoon. Hope your Thursday is starting nicely. So pleased the sun is shining today and it’s not snowing here right now. How’s it in your corner of the world?

I think this is the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Spokane taken from Providence Sacred Heart Hospital. I plan to take an up close and personal view of this cathedral in the future.

I saw this verse on the side of a building in Colville, Washington.
We are having a nice visit with my cousin and friend from college who married my cousin. The weather has changed here with wind and rain and lots of leaves falling.
We took a selfie. We are eating well with an egg scramble for breakfast, cucumber salsa, and pulled pork sandwiches with beans and coleslaw for dinner and a shrimp cocktail chaser that my cousin Jim served up. Oh and there’s a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie for dessert.
Tomorrow Jim and Jeanie head to Canada and a ferry ride to Vancouver Island. We are inspiring them by watching the survival show “Alone” that was filmed on Vancouver Island. Have you watched that show?

This Doe and Fawn have been showing up on our son’s property each afternoon or evening. If you just go about your business and don’t make sudden moves they are content to graze with us in the distance.
If you look carefully through the chicken coop you can see them. The fawn is watching me and the doe is busy grazing. That black and white speckled cock a doodle doer is destined for the cook pot soon! In the meantime we are eating lots of eggs!
When we were visiting our kids in eastern Washington the girls took walks each morning while the guys worked on some projects. These are some of the sights we saw on the early morning walk. This property is adjacent to our son’s. I thought the horse corral was very nice. The horse farthest in the photo above is named Hutch. (As in Starsky and Hutch) I don’t know the name of the one closest to the fence.

Oh what a glorious Saturday my sisters and I enjoyed on a 10 hour outing north to Mount Vernon and La Conner and then beyond to Whidbey Island over Deception Pass and south the whole length of the island. In this post I’m showing the fields of daffodils we enjoyed. But…first things first, when visiting tulip or daffodils fields it is good to don your mud boots!
I was happy to be able to come up with 3 pairs of good mucking boots/shoes and borrowed the fourth pair from our DIL.

From Mt. Vernon we traveled a short distance to La Conner for lunch and shopping. I’ll share some photos of our time there next. It was great to have leisurely time together to share about the challenges my oldest sister faces in caring for our dear old pop and the life changes my sister Vera faces in widowhood and moving out of the home she shared with her husband Nick. It’s good to let the tears roll freely and also to be able to laugh heartily with each other. Just for the record…we sisters have four brothers, too.
Good Friday morning to y’all. Just a quick post while my camera battery is charging so I can upload the photos from our Thanksgiving gathering yesterday. This past Wednesday we traveled east to Snoqualmie Falls with my brother and sister-in-law and even though it was clear and sunny in the lowlands when we got to the Falls it was misty, moisty and foggy. It’s still an amazing site.
Today we might take a little drive to see some another site or two…no shopping for us!

On Dear and my road trip to the westernmost tip of the contiguous United States on July 15th & 16th we drove by these barns.
How about a barn converted into a winery?
On a personal kind of farming note of the orchard variety…on Saturday I had to pick apples off our apple tree because they had started falling off the tree on their own in huge numbers. Since I had given my pricey fruit picker to our son for a Christmas stocking gift, no it didn’t fit into his stocking technically but it did fit in the back of his pick-up, I was without an implement that would make reaching the apples on the upper branches easily. I stepped into our newly cleaned out and re-organized garage, the product of my husband’s extra time on his hands since being without a job right now. I looked around and spotted the two 4 paks of bamboo tiki torches that have been waiting for an occasion for many years now. I thought to myself…that could work for picking apples off my tree. I took the lighter out of the top and proceeded to the tree. This new farm implement worked like a charm! I could even snatch two apples with one going down into the reservoir before having to empty them into my apple basket! I was quite proud of myself and my easy apple picking venture!

Dear and I were able to get away on an overnight trip to Bainbridge Island and we decided to drive up to the Kitsap Peninsula through the Nordic town of Poulsbo on our way home. We were pleasantly surprised by a very nice and sunny mid-morning to evening on this Saturday after being soaked by rain Friday night and early Saturday morning. I have lots to share from our wonderful getaway.
We had a wonderful Sunday morning at our own church, not this church I pictured. We were able to witness 15 or 43 total Baptisms. We have 3 services so the Baptisms were spaced out between the services. From elementary age children, high school, college, and older adults including a married couple we witnessed obedience to the Word of God to believe and be baptized.
