Snow and Winter Cleaning

We are finally getting a few inches of snow here in Colville. It was a great day to stay inside.  The inspiration came to do a deep cleaning of the kitchen cabinets, trim and the ledge that runs around the upper part of our kitchen filled with tchotchkes.

It is a very good feeling to have all the dust bunnies and the grime cleaned. I’m ready for a white glove inspection.

Spring will take us outdoors to take care of things we didn’t do in the fall so winter indoor cleaning will work nicely for us this year.

Welcome February!

Surprise!

We had the very best surprise this past Saturday the 18th of January. We had a meal cooking for a celebration of Jamie and Dan’s birthdays that were on Wednesday and Thursday of this past week. Dan, Jamie, Addy and JJ arrived a little after 4:30 for our meal together. About 5 minutes after they arrived and we were pulling the roast out of the oven for our meal the doorbell started ringing and we heard the front door open with shouts of surprise from Josh and Laura! They decided to hop in their car and drive over to Colville to join our dinner and celebration without letting any of us know. It truly was such a wonderful surprise. I had to add a name to our birthday sign…

Josh’s birthday was on Sunday. What a joy to celebrate all three of our January birthdays together.

JJ was so happy to have his Uncle Joshie  and Auntie Lolo in the house! His excitement was evident as he chattered throughout our meal together.

Our beautiful daughters in law.

This event called for confetti!

Being introduced to chess.

On Sunday we all met up at church and were encouraged with a powerful worship time with music and sermon. We enjoyed lunch together at our newest restaurant in town and then spent the rest of Sunday on Bayles Mountain.

There was exercise time outside and games inside.

The age of missing your front teeth…and the joy of reading in your fort with uncle.

A starry night with planets visible was the grand finale for Sunday.

On Monday morning before Josh and Laura drove back over the mountains for home we watched some of the Inauguration together. It was good to share this historic event with them.

Thank you, Josh and Laura, for your epic surprise! We all loved every minute of being together!

A Winter Walk

On Saturday the 28th of December our kids and grands started the day off with a nice walk along the Rotary Trail in Colville. Andrew and Katie left for home right after the walk but Josh and Laura hung around for a few more hours before heading back west.

The resident eagles still grace the tops of the power poles.

She didn’t get those two front teeth for Christmas!

Thank you, Laura, for all these wonderful photos!

After the kids left I pulled out one more puzzle with a Christmas Carol theme and was able to finish it before the New Year rolled around. This one wasn’t tough and was fun to complete.

2025 has started quietly for us at our country bungalow.  On New Year’s day I made Eggnog pancakes with a Vanilla sauce that we enjoyed on that day and then we had enough left over batter and sauce to repeat that breakfast on Thursday. The recipe was good and you can find it here. I chose this recipe because we had a lot of left over eggnog.

On Thursday we pulled down all the Christmas bins so we could put Christmas away but then we got side tracked in the kitchen re-organizing several of our cupboards and our pantry. Our garage sale/donation pile is getting larger and larger! Several very outdated items got thrown out, too. Friday (today) will be put away Christmas day.

Enjoy your first weekend of 2025.

The Last Week

On Mondays we have a set date with our grandson JJ. He gets dropped off for a visit with Baba and Gramps while his mommy takes Addy to her Irish Dance Class. Last Monday I snapped some photos of him.

On Tuesday we had lunch at the newest restaurant in Colville, El Patron. It took many months to open and we were happy to see that it finally did open. It passed our salsa test and our taste test, too. We will return.

On Halloween our bunny family got ready for the Harvest Festival Trunk or Treat at our church and then they came out to our place to get their treats.

Knowing they’d have a big bag of candy already from the Harvest Festival we had some fruit snacks, goldfish crackers, and a bag of change for their treat. Gramps cleaned out one of his piggy banks and they each got quarters, dimes and nickels.

Addy got busy counting out her cash!

On Friday there was something that I ate that turned my insides out and I suffered with nausea through the night and all day Saturday. I was happy to wake up on Sunday feeling like a new person with the nausea gone. It was good to be able to attend our Sunday church services and our Connection group on Sunday afternoon. I was so thankful to feel better.

Now we face the challenge of the Time change and adjusting our sleep back to a normal wake up time.

Today we are looking forward to our Monday date with this little guy.

Grace and peace to all of you as we face this new week.

Another School Year Begins…

Time for the new school year!

It’s always fun to see their favorites. Busy days ahead with homeschooling and with Co-op.

We had twin fawns visit and I only managed to get one of them in a photo.

I will be hit and miss on the internet and with posting for the next little while. I’ll pop in when I can.

The Heat is On…

This chubby scout hopped up on the deck. Usually the quail stay off the deck.

I took a quick pic with my phone through the slider.

We are in the midst of another hot spell here. We had hints of autumn for a few days but summer is still making an appearance. Of course that means a lot of watering is happening here.

We are in the midst of getting things ready on our property before we travel to Scotland. Our neighbors and son will look out for our property but no one will be watering or mowing.

The heat is real today and you can almost feel it through these photos.

But before we know it the cool days of Autumn will be upon us and the Fall decor will come out of their bins.

My eye doctor visit revealed the need for some minor laser surgery needed to clear up some fogginess. It is too bad this couldn’t have been completed before our trip to Scotland. I will meet with the specialist before we leave and schedule the procedure for when we return.

I’m adding a new purchase from the dollar store in town which is now the $1.25 store!

Are you cooling down or heating up again? Enjoy your last days of summer, dear ones!

Hello September

My Grands via their dear mom gifted me with seeds to plant at Mother’s Day. The Sunflower is finally blooming in all it’s glory. There are three more buds that could bloom any minute.

The rest of these photos are of the nicest areas of our yard taken on September the 1st. Our high today, Sunday, was 97 degrees at our Country Bungalow after several cooler days. Sunday was the hottest of a few days of warming in our neck of the woods. Labor Day, today, is a bit cooler in the forecast.

I’m happy that our potted hanging plant we bought in May has survived until now.

Don’t look too close or you will see all the weeds I have not been able to keep on top of.

We are so thankful for our little plot of land that affords us peace and contentment in this stage of life that God has afforded us.

Happy September to you all. Happy Labor Day to all our friends in the U.S. of A.

More August Fun on Friday

Friday morning the 16th of August we had Greg’s famous Swedish Pancakes for breakfast at Our Country Bungalow.

Our daughters in law were twinsies without planning it.

The three of us took off to do a little shopping while the guys stayed at our country bungalow. We couldn’t resist trying on these beauties off the sale rack. They did not come home with us but gave us a chuckle.

While we were gone the guys and Addy did some clearing of fallen branches on our property for which I was very thankful.

They finished that task and decided it was time to scale the mountain behind our home. We own part of Rattlesnake mountain and it was fun to hear about this trek up the mountain using game trails to traverse the steepness. Here is the team of four who took the climb!

Here are the views looking back down on our home.

It was fun to see these views without having to make the climb!

Friday night we enjoyed hamburgers at the Colville kids’ home.

Earlier a couple chickens got loose and they were tracked down and put back where they belong.

A little basketball and more shenanigans before dinner.

I could have gotten my days mixed up with all these photos.

After dinner and on our way back to our home we couldn’t resist snapping these photos from their driveway.

We all wonder when that great old barn is going to collapse.

Good night, Colville.

Saturday was another good day in Colville filled with fun in the sun. That will be another post or two.

Happy last full weekend of August!

Four Full Days in August!

Wednesday evening August 14th Uncle and Auntie arrived just at the end of soccer practice. We enjoyed dinner out at Rancho Chico before resting up for a full Thursday.

Bright and early Thursday morning the brothers had a tee time.

On Thursday after throwing some roasts in the slow cooker we headed to Bayles Mountain for lunch. The guys were there already after golfing 18 holes.

We had home made sourdough pita bread and tzatziki with steak and with the fresh veggies from the garden.

Everyone gathered back to our place in the afternoon after Addy’s dance practice.

We had dinner early and then some outdoor activities.

Mama deer was outside, too, and very interested in this little guy who got a kick out of seeing her so close. The Aronia Berries were ripe for the picking and everyone had a chance to get their hands stained purple.

While outside I got stung by one of these. The Yellow Jackets and hornets are in abundance this summer and they are aggressive. Our traps have been filling up quickly. Lots of chatter on our county sites about how to get rid of them!

Addy’s Soccer games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30. Our son is coaching which makes it even more fun to watch. We piled into our vehicles and headed to the soccer fields.

Turned out that there was not a referee available so our son Josh stepped in for that role. Triple the fun watching Dan Coach, Addy play and Josh referee!

Go Addy!

Great job, Bobcats, Coach and Referee!!

I had to add a few more photos that I missed the first time around!

Thank you to Auntie Lolo for all the great photos!!

And that was Thursday. Friday and Saturday were two more full days that I’ll post about later this week.
