Friday Feast #11 ~

Appetizer
What is your favorite carnival/amusement park ride?

I really enjoy several rides at Disneyland. My favorites are Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Carribean

Soup
How do you react in uncomfortable social situations?

I generally try to ease the situation, change the subject. If I can leave the room I will. It depends on what kind of uncomfortable it is. If it too uncomfortable I would flee the situation…

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy discussing deep, philosophical topics?

Oh probably a 5 and that depends on whether the discussion is heated or just an exchange of thoughts…

I do not like mean debates.

Main Course
Did you get a flu shot this year? If not, do you plan to?

No I did not, never have, and I won’t be getting one this year. Maybe next year….

Dessert
Approximately how many hours per week do you spend watching television?

I watch Survivor, Amazing Race, Bones, Numbers and Project Runway so ….5 hours. Oops then there’s Seahawks football and any Soccer game that’s televised at the right time so add 5 more hours. Up to 10 hours!

Friday Feast #7

Name a great website you would recommend to others.

Well since you didn’t say blog site, I’m going with Bible Study Light http://www.studylight.org/  or Amazon.com.

Soup
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 as highest), how often do you dream at night?

I’m thinking I’m on the lower end of this scale. I’m going to say 4. I might dream more but I sure don’t remember if I do.

Salad
Did you have a pet as a child?  If so, what kind and what was its name?

Well for a while my father raised pigeons and my pet pigeon was named Green Neck. Can you guess why it’s name was Green Neck? 🙂  Anyway the very sad ending to this pet was that we were really poor and when things got real bad my parents killed our pigeons and made soup with them. Us kids had an eating strike and refused to eat the soup! Strange but true. I’m also happy to say that we all recovered from this incident…

Main Course
If you had the chance to star in a commercial, what would you choose to advertise?

Something good to eat or a wonderful restaurant where I get to eat after the commercial is completed.

Dessert
What is your favorite kind of hard candy?

Peanut Brittle

Fall Book Reviews ~ Sayers and Piper

So I’m plugging away with our Fall Reading Challenge and have finished The Documents in the Case by Dorothy Sayers and Pierced by the Word by John Piper.

Documents in the Case is not one of the Peter Wimsey mysteries. It is also different in that the story is told through series of letters between the characters in the book. It took me a while to connect with this way of developing the characters and mystery story line. I did finally connect and again enjoyed Sayers’ expertise in character development and detail. Some of the detail was way over my head. She definitely writes an intellectual mystery that taxes my wee brain a lot!

One of the quotes from this book that really affected me is this one ~

“He admires, but he won’t clap, which must be very discouraging”

Encouragement is a very important thing to me and this quote is so telling about the lack of verbal encouragement that can be so crushing in relationship. Is there someone you admire and you do not clap for? Consider verbalizing your admiration, encourage them. Be an encourager!

Pierced by the Word, I’m sorry to say that this particular Piper devotional did not live up to it’s title. I think whoever chose the title for this particular compilation of devotions was stretching it! I love Piper and I have several of his books that I’d read over again, but this isn’t one of them. Although several of the devotions had truth to share they fell short of being piercing for me. Yikes I feel like a traitor but there you have it…
