Roadtrip!

We’re hitting the road today to Seattle. On the way we are stopping overnight in Clovis for Jeff and Heather’s wedding. Jeff is my cousin Jim’s youngest son. Jim’s wife Jeanie was my best friend in college at Cal State L.A. I introduced her to my cousin and they got married the same year Dear and I were married. At the wedding we’ll get to see family and friends. I’m looking forward to seeing Jeanie’s sister Kathy B. who has become a wonderful bloggy friend of mine. My parents and sister Kathy will also be at the wedding. We’ll hit the road bright and early on Sunday morning and drive straight through to Seattle.

If you don’t see me around the blogisphere for a few days you’ll know why…

Friday’s Fave Five ~ Summer!

Looking back over the first week of summer 2009 here are my top 5!

On Saturday Dear and I explored Malibu Lagoon State Park and saw some great sights including the historical Adamson House.

After walking and enjoying the sea air we had breakfast at the Marmalade Cafe in Malibu. Dear and I enjoy eating breakfast out together.

Oops more food. On Sunday we barbecued a tri-tip roast and got 3 full meals from it. The first night we made sandwiches with the meat and a roasted Poblano chile. On Tuesday I made these quesadillas with caramelized onion and whole green chilies that I cut up along with pinto beans. I like to get the whole pinto beans and mash them myself. We have a great Mexican market here in town that makes their own Guacamole and salsa. I can’t buy avocados and make the guacamole myself for as cheap as I buy the freshly made at this store.

I always love seeing this plant here in Southern California from the Agave Family. It’s called Our Lord’s Candle Yucca whipplei. Beginning in April and continuing through July, Our Lord’s Candle blooms abundantly in Chaparral and Oak Woodland in elevations up to 2500 feet. Willow and I saw this beautiful example of one on our Thursday walk in her neighborhood.

Now my absolute favorite thing about this week is looking forward to our road trip to Seattle beginning on Saturday. On Saturday we will stop 5 hours up the road at a wedding of my cousin’s son enjoying all the fun and then on Sunday morning we’ll drive the rest of the way to Seattle. I’m looking forward to seeing all our kids and getting the deck all set for summer festivities. I’ll be in the Seattle area for 6 whole weeks…whoohoo!

ABC’s of the Word ~ Transform

Philippians 3:20-21 (NIV)

20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

It’s always good to remember where our citizenship really lies and look with hope to being united in Heaven.

Tablescape Thursday ~ A Bar Setting…

Most of my stuff comes from Thrift stores, Marshalls, TjMaxx, or Target Clearance. I very rarely pay full price for anything. The pink jewel napkin rings are shower curtain hooks.

And here’s a variation on the black and white polka dot theme.

Window Views ~ Adamson House, Malibu

My Window Views this week are all from the Historic Adamson House in Malibu, California.

This is the rear view of the home which is right on the beach in Malibu just north of the Malibu Pier which the original family who owned the home had built.

This is a view from one side of the home.

WFW ~ Matthew 5: 43-45

Love Your Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Malibu Lagoon

On Saturday Dear and I went down the coast to Malibu to check out the Malibu Lagoon. It was a drizzly gray day in Southern California but that’s good weather for Dear and I.

Don’t Pelicans look a bit pre-historic to you? I’m thinking Pterodactyl here!

This beautiful white Heron came gliding in. They are always so much fun to watch in flight.

Look at that duck surfing on that board! It was fun to see other critters besides birds, too.

While we were here we also explored the grounds of the Adamson House which is part of the Malibu Lagoon State Park and owned by the state of California. If you ever visit the lagoon make sure you cross the bridge over the lagoon on PCH and visit the house.

Have a great Wednesday everyone and make sure you click over to Susan’s at A Southern DayDreamer to see more of the Oudoor World.

Let There Be White ~

It’s time to show off your white. White tablecloths, dishes, flowers, etc. Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen is our hostess for this event.

When I looked around the condo I realized that most of my white is at my home in Washington. I managed to find these pieces and put a little setting together.

For more Let There Be White visit Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen. If you haven’t visited her blog before you are in for a treat.

Tea Time Tuesday

Barb at Grits and Glamour hosts Tea Time Tuesday every other week and I’m joining in this week.

I love my Wind in the Willows Teapot that I bought at the Rose Bowl Flea Market over a year ago. I put together a Pink and Green Tea tray to go with it just for fun. I enjoyed reading Wind in the Willows for the first time just before I saw this Teapot so I decided to add it to my small collection.

This is a tea I hosted back in February for my Bible Study ladies.

These are individual little bubble vase place card holders that are fun to use for tea or any meal.

I’m looking forward to  coming around to see your Tea Time posts.

Mosaic Blue Monday! ~ Adamson House

Mondays are so full of fun in Bloggyworld! I’m combining Mary’s Mosaic Monday with Sally’s Blue Monday! Click on either name to get to more mosaics and more blue…

Dear and I drove south on PCH to check out the Malibu Lagoon State Park and we got a bonus when we discovered the Adamson House that the state of California purchased in 1968. The house property borders the lagoon and the beach. The beautiful grounds were open and we enjoyed it all to ourselves. I hope to return on another day to take a tour of the home.

The Malibu area is rich in clay and the Rindge family recognized that and established Malibu Potteries (1926-32). The house has many wonderful tile features characteristic of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. Adamson married one of the Rindge daughters. I’m including the following mosaic of some of the flowers on the grounds.

There is so much history connected to this land, home and area of the coast. It was fun to learn a little of it.

Adamson House is designated a National Historical Site and is also as a registered California Landmark.

Visible from most places on the state beach, but with entry only off the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway One), a few hundred feet down coast in Malibu Lagoon State Beach is the Adamson House

You can read more about the history of the Adamson House here.
