Welcome Back Robins

Piping Robin

by Annette Wynne

Piping Robin, piping so,
Tell the snow
It’s time to go;
Tell the rough winds not to blow
Any more through field and glen;
Call the bluebirds home again,
Tell the little flowers to grow,
Piping Robin, piping so!

I was happy to see the first of the Robins return to our yard this past Saturday. We still have not seen daffodils pop up. As you can see the snow has not all melted in our yard. The roads and fields are brown and muddy looking as are parts of our acreage. How is your corner of the world?

Robins Old and New

We don’t remember them with white on the tail feathers like this.

This young one was just improving it’s flying skills, just fresh from the nest.

If you squint you can see the little one on the branch to the left. It flew up into the trees in our front yard.

It’s been fun to watch the festivities of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! We recorded it and are slowly making our way through.

In other news we have had to turn from heat to air conditioning the last couple of days and the Columbine is blooming beautifully!

Hope your first weekend in June is a good one.

Magnuson Part II

For this day in between the remembrance of the crucifixion and the Resurrection of Jesus I decided to post Katie and my second walk at Magnuson Park that we took on Tuesday April 4th. I wonder what agony the followers of Jesus had during the time in-between.

Katie was hoping that we would see the blue heron her and Andrew had seen on their walks through the wetlands. We were excited to have that hope realized on this day.

Bufflehead Ducks

Red Winged Black Bird

I love having walks with our girl.

The lake was calm on this day and there was no rain during our walk.

You can just barely see Mt. Rainier in this photo.

Looking forward to tomorrow and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Such a great time of rejoicing.

We are having rain, rain and more rain. Here in Northeastern Washington more roads have washed away and traveling is getting more complicated for a lot of people. Everyone is looking forward to a good dry spell and for all this water to recede. We still have good access to town and everything we need.

Here is a collage of our smiley granddaughter next to her smiley daddy when he was a wee one.

Baby equipment has really come a long way since 1981!

Are you preparing for an Easter service and Easter meal at your home?

A Minor Bird
(Robert Frost)
I have wished a bird would fly away,
And not sing by my house all day;
Have clapped my hands at him from the door
When it seemed as if I could bear no more.
The fault must partly have been in me.
The bird was not to blame for his key.
And of course there must be something wrong
In wanting to silence any song.

I have to say that the only birds I’ve clapped my hands at have been crows or woodpeckers.

Today was quite the bird event at our house. So many little, medium and big birds flying in and out. They would peck at the ground, at the bird feeders, in the planters.

birds 006 How about this chubby Robin? We saw many Robins today.

birds 004A first for us was seeing a small hawk/falcon like bird and woodpecker having a life and death struggle. They both slammed into our French doors and landed on the deck and then when the senses were regained from the hard hit into the door, the falcon/hawk flew off with the woodpecker in it’s claws. Very strange event to see…

P1040825After some beautiful days like these we are back in a rainy pattern. Of course that is normal and we all need the rain along with the sunshine. California would love to have some of our rain drops…

P1040824Dear and I went on a little walk again about the neighborhood on Sunday last. I was cracking up when we passed this in the photo below…

P1040823Oops…the no dumping sign was dumped!

Confession of the week: I went to Costco on Tuesday and bought season 4 of Downton Abbey so very soon Katie and I will have a marathon viewing of the rest of the episodes we haven’t seen yet. Costco had the DVD for $25.99 with a one time $4.00 rebate at the register.

Hows your week progressing?

Seattle Blue Mosaic Monday!

If it’s almost Monday it is time for some Blue and some Mosaic fun. Visit Mary at The Little Red House for Mosaic Monday and Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday.

On Friday I took a walk at Juanita Bay Park and at St. Edwards State Park and the Robins were very active. Some were busy gathering nest material.

Seattle Blue is very well represented by our Seattle Sounders F.C. team(Soccer!) Bottom right photo…our wonderful son Josh, an amazing photographer and friend Jeremy Leffel, Our friend and computer programmer extraordinaire Beau, and our favorite family doctor Dave. Beau, Josh and I have a total of 5 season ticket seats together. Fun times. We were so happy we beat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 in the 2nd to the last minute of the game. Sheesh. Keep us on the edge of our seats!

If and when my daughter gets married her wedding date will depend on whether Jeremy is available to take photos!! Yes, he’s that good!

Do you notice anything missing in the photo on the right in this mosaic? While my son and I were at the soccer game Dear and Katie chopped down that pine tree. Dear tied the tree securely to Katie’s trailer pull, made a precision cut angled just right and Katie pulled it down with her car. I was so sorry to be gone while this took place. I would have loved to have gotten photos of it coming down…

And before any tree huggers come after me, we had to take it down because it was damaging our roof and allowing rats free access to the garage!!

There and Back Again…

Friday was a beautiful day in the Seattle Area. I set out for one adventure and ended up having two. First I went to Juanita Bay Park which is a Wetland Preserve. The Robins were the easiest bird to capture with the lens today and then the Herons.

Then I traveled a few miles back toward home and stopped at St. Edwards State Park. I picked the North Trail to hike down. At the trail head at the top it said North Trail .6 miles. I trekked down and then when I got to the bottom I saw this sign…

LOL…it might have been nice to say that at the top before you are totally committed!

I made it back to the car huffing and puffing.

I’ll show more photos later of both of these great destinations…

We’re throwing steaks on the barbie and are going to continue to enjoy the weather. The retaining wall is complete and I’ll show more photos soon.

Have a great weekend everyone. I’m headed to another Sounders soccer game on Saturday…
