WFW ~ John 15: 5,6

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

We are in the John 15 this week in our 40 day Journey with Jesus learning about the Power of Abiding in Jesus daily, hourly, minute by minute…

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Edmonds-Kenmore

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage unless I pay them a lot of money. I’m slowly cleaning up many posts from this time period and deleting their ugly grey and black boxes with a ransom request. Such a time consuming bother.

Outdoor Wednesday this week is from my trip to the Seattle Area last week. I returned home to California on Sunday afternoon. I experienced all kinds of weather while I was in Washington.

The sun was shining bright on Friday. I was in the Edmonds area and this is the view of the Puget Sound across to the Kitsap Peninsula. The snow capped mountains are in the Olympic Mountain range.

Edmonds is also home to Rick Steves and his travel business.

On Saturday morning I met my walking buddies in Kenmore on Lake Washington for a 6 mile round trip walk to Bothell and back on the Burke Gilman trail.

Even though it was cold and misty I still got some photos in. I was happy to see this Robin.

The trail at this point goes along the Slough which connects Lake Washington to Lake Sammamish.

Just before I left for California on Sunday we got another dusting of snow.

When I was putting this post together and I was looking at the ones from our walk this song kept going through my head.

“All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey, I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day. I’d be safe and warm if I was in L.A., California dreaming on such a winter’s day.”  Yep the Mama’s and the Papa’s were a hit group while I was in high school.  Anybody else out there remember listening to them way back when? I also got to go to one of their concerts!

Three or More ~

This photo of my kids on the horse was taken in July of 1988 on our move from Southern California to the Seattle Area. We stopped in Yuba City at Dear’s Aunt and Uncles’s farm/ranch. The kids were thrilled to get to ride a horse even if they had to share the ride.

I just got home on Sunday from spending a week with my kids in Seattle. I always get a little nostalgic when I travel away from them again…

I’ve Anchored in Jesus ~ Hymn

I’ve Anchored in Jesus

Upon life’s boundless ocean where mighty billows roll,
I’ve fixed my hope in Jesus, blest anchor of my soul;
When trials fierce assail me as storms are gathering o’er,
I rest upon His mercy and trust Him more.

Refrain

I’ve anchored in Jesus, the storms of life I’ll brave,
I’ve anchored in Jesus, I fear no wind or wave.
I’ve anchored in Jesus, for He hath power to save,
I’ve anchored to the Rock of Ages.

He keeps my soul from evil and gives me blessèd peace,
His voice hath stilled the waters and bid their tumult cease;
My Pilot and Deliverer, to Him I all confide,
For always when I need Him, He’s at my side.

Refrain

He is my Friend and Savior, in Him my anchor’s cast,
He drives away my sorrows and shields me from the blast;
By faith I’m looking upward beyond life’s troubled sea,
There I behold a haven prepared for me.

Refrain

It’s An Edmonds Kind of Day…

What an absolutely glorious day in the Pacific Northwest. This shot is taken in Edmonds, Washington looking out over the Puget Sound to the Olympic Peninsula.

I was in Edmonds on Friday morning for my yearly exam. So why am I showing you this collage with our good friends and traveling companions Bob, Jan, Dave and Jody? Jan is not only my Northwest walking buddy along with Jody but she’s my doctor’s nurse. Whenever I go to the doctor’s office she greats me and weighs me (curses), takes my blood pressure and settles me in the exam room. Dave is my doctor and he’s married to my other Northwest walking buddy Jody. We’ve been friends since 1984. We met Dave and Jody at our church in Ventura, California while Dave was completing his residency at the County Hospital there. Dave delivered our daughter Katie 23 years ago in Ventura, Ca. He is still my doctor. We met Bob and Jan on a bicycling trip in the wine country in 1986. After we moved to Seattle in 1988 we attended church with Dave, Jody, Jan, and Bob. Bob was our pastor for 19 years. Oh and Dave and Bob are brothers. So when I went for my doctor appointment I got to see my friends. What a privilege it is to be brothers and sisters in the Lord. Saturday the 3 walking buddies will meet at 9:00 am for our 6 mile walk on the Burke Gilman Trail. When I lived in the Seattle area we would meet to do this walk most every Saturday rain or shine or even snow sometimes.

After I was done at the doctor’s office I decided to drive down into the “Edmonds Bowl” and see what I could see. And boy did I get an eyeful. There’s Mount Baker that is very close to the Canadian Border. Hi Lovella!

It’s always such a great treat to see the snow covered Olympics across the Sound.

This is the Edmonds side of the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry run. This ferry takes you across the Sound to the Kitsap Peninsula.

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday! I’m headed back to Southern California on Sunday…

Friday’s Fave Five ~ Seattle Style

It’s time to consider the past week and to record some of our favorites!

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story is our trusty hostess for this weekly event.

My favorites are all about family, friends, food, fun and the Father.

Since I’m in Seattle this week instead of Southern California I’ve been able to spend time with my adult children. We’ve enjoyed meals together, conversation, laughter and work. They are really into playing Rock Band and it’s been fun watching and listening to them enjoy this interactive game.

I’ve run into friends this week and it’s been fun catching up. On Saturday I’ll be walking with my buddies on our 6 mile Burke Gilman walk. Maybe I’ll have a picture to share next week.  Willow ~ Saturday will be my first walk since last Thursday when we walked…yikes!

This week the theme for my 40 day Journey with Jesus is my relationship with God the Father. It’s amazing to be reminded about what love the Father has for us and to respond to that love. I also treasure the beautiful things He’s created for us to enjoy like this scene on Lake Washington from Kirkland, Washington.

I have my yearly this morning so I’ll try to get around to your favorites later today. Have a wonderful Friday everyone.

Strawberry Trifle ~

This is a recipe I copied from my mom and I think she got it from the L.A. Times years ago.

Strawberry Trifle

1(3-1/4 oz) pkg. Vanilla pudding mix (not instant)
1/4 cup rum
2 cups heavy cream
1 – 12 oz. bakery angle food cake
2 tablespoons brandy
1 Box fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar

Prepare vanilla pudding mix. Cool slightly and stir in 2 tbsp. of the rum. Cover and chill until almost set. Whip 1 cup of the heavy cream until stiff and fold into chilled pudding mixture.

In a serving bowl of 2 qt. capacity gently tear about half of the cake into bite size pieces in an even layer. Stir together the brandy and remaining rum and sprinkle half over the cake then spoon in about half the pudding mixture. Tear remaining cake as before, arranging in an even layer over pudding, sprinkle with remaining brandy/rum mixture, then add whole berries reserving 6 for garnish. Carefully spoon in remaining pudding. Cover and chill.

Just before serving whip remaining cream with the sugar until stiff. Place in pastry bag with fluted tip and pipe cream onto pudding in attractive mounds, topping with reserved berries.

I’ve made this for a crowd in a punch bowl with more pudding mixture, more layers and more berries. You could throw in raspberries, too.

Enjoy…

I’ve published this over at Mennonite Girls Can Cook, also. If you haven’t visited this blog yet you should click on over for all the delicious recipes there.

ABC’s of the Word ~ Doers

James 1:22-24 (English Standard Version)

22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
