Tablescape Thursday ~ Pink & Silver

Time for some more tablescape fun in Blog land. Please visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch to see more tables set for good times!

Everything in this post was purchased at Thrift Stores, Clearance tables or Garage sales. The pink tablecloth is covered with a sheer polka dot piece of remnant fabric that I found at a thrift store also.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and to leave a comment. I really appreciate my blog land friends…

WFW ~ I Samuel 2: 2-3

Please join me in praying for the Island nation of Haiti after the devastating earthquake that struck there just before dark. Our DIL works with World Concern in the state of Washington and the World Concern Staff that are in Haiti are safe right now but they say the damage is horrific. This is such an impoverished area of the world…

If you want to know how you could help go to the World Concern Web site.

For more Word Filled Wednesday visit Lori who will be our hostess this week.

Aren’t digital cameras great! I was just thinking about how we used to have to load a roll of film after every 24/36 photos and we never knew if the photos were good till after we had the film processed! I am so thankful for digital photography!!

Too Good Not to Share Again…

Since this might be a time of year to get in the doldrums and have a let down after Christmas, I decided it would be good to share a G.K. Chesterton quote again today and here’s the one that I enjoyed the most from a list John Piper shared…

  • “Man is more himself, man is more manlike, when joy is the fundamental thing in him, and grief the superficial. Melancholy should be an innocent interlude, a tender and fugitive frame of mind; praise should be the permanent pulsation of the soul. Pessimism is at best an emotional half-holiday; joy is the uproarious labor by which all things live.”

Enjoy and choose Joy and Praise God and encourage someone with a kind word today!!

Hot Tea Month ~ Favorite Teas

This is week two of Hot Tea Month blog-a-thon. Click on over to the hot tea month site to join in the fun. A big thank you to Scrabblequeen for hosting the event!

Week Two: January 10th-16th

Tell us about your favorite teas. Do you prefer black, green, white, red, or “herbal”? Do you like added flavors such as fruit, flowers, vanilla, chocolate, or spices, or are you a “purist”?

For a quick cup of tea I generally enjoy tea steeped with a tea bag. If I am going to steep loose tea I enjoy a good Earl Grey or English Breakfast Tea or a Russian black tea called Czars tea.

I always have to make sure I have good ole Lipton tea bags around for my family especially my brother Leonard. Some of my sisters have moved on to herbal teas. When I was younger I put lots of sugar and milk in my tea. These days I drink most of my hot beverages black with no sweeteners.

I found this really good tea in these cool muslin bags at a local grocery store at a close-out price. A Russian blend of China, Ceylon, and India teas with natural scents of bergamot, lemon, lime, orange, mandarin and flowers. What a description :0)

This is my daughter in a flat we rented in Scotland enjoying our welcome tea tray that was left for us.

I very rarely go for more fruity teas but I do experiment once in a while. This tea cup and tea was a gift from my son and his wife and I’ve enjoyed the variety of teas from this box.

If I want something hot at night I generally will go for the herbals. My first choice is usually Chamomile.

When we go out for tea in a larger group we will usually get a pot of Earl Grey, a pot of some fruity tea like Peach, and choose something different like lavender or anything we haven’t tried before that is different from our usual. It’s fun to experiment with the group.

I’ve developed a nagging cough that hopefully will depart in the next day or two in the meantime as I write this post I’m enjoying a hot cuppa Lady Grey to soothe my throat. It’s interesting that if I’m ever sick I always think of hot tea not hot coffee. Of course if things get really bad there’s that other British remedy…

Have a good week enjoying your tea, whatever flavor or variety you choose!

Mosaic Blues ~ Standing in Awe…

We have been back in Southern California for a week already and we had the great privilege of enjoying the beauty of Emma Wood State Beach on Saturday morning. We are aware here in Southern California that we are one of the only parts of the U.S. not caught in the grip of Global Warming, umm the deep freeze. Today my mosaics will be linked to Mosaic Monday hosted by Mary at the Little Red House and Blue Monday hosted by Smiling Sally in Florida. Even Sally is experiencing the cold in Florida!!

Psalm 33:6-8 (English Standard Version)

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the LORD;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

Have a good week everyone and stay cozy…

Oh and lest I forget to spread the news

Now the Shades of Night Are Gone ~ Hymn

Now the Shades of Night Are Gone

Now the shades of night are gone
Now the morning light is come.
Lord, may we be Thine today;
Drive the shades of sin away.

Fill our souls with heav’nly light,
Banish doubt and cleanse our sight.
In Thy service, Lord, today
Help us labor, help us pray.

Keep our haughty passions bound,
Save us from our foes around;
Going out and coming in,
Keep us safe from every sin.

When our work of life is past,
Oh, receive us safe at last!
Night of sin will be no more,
When we reach the heav’nly shore.

Words attributed to Samson Occom (1723-1792)

Back to Our Favorite Spot…

…after a few months away and boy did we get lots of wonderful views…

As usual we arrived in time to see the sun rise.

The birds were mostly flying today because the tide was in and there was very little exposed sand.

We were treated to lots of dolphins. We even saw them jump over waves!

The dolphins weren’t concerned about the surfers and vice versa…

Tonight Dear and I are going to Tam O’ Shanter to celebrate our 35th anniversary that came and went with us in separate parts of the country in December. We are well on our way enjoying some of our favorite things here in Southern California. Dear has finally recovered from his ick and my ick didn’t get bad enough to keep me down! Praise the Lord!

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!

Friday’s Fave Five ~ January 8th

Looking back at this week and remembering some favorites. Visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to join in with your favorites!

We arrived back in Southern California on Sunday night and began the task of getting used to being here in the south.

1. On Tuesday morning Willow and I resumed our walks in her neighborhood. It was good to walk again and to push ourselves up those hills. We had clear, sunny, crisp weather for our walk.

2. On Wednesday I drove to Pt. Mugu because I wanted some winter shots of the beach. I never tire of seeing the beach and hearing the waves break. God has really created beautiful things for us to enjoy.

3. I made a quick stop into the local Goodwill and was able to pick up 7 Johnson Bros. dinner plates in the Asiatic Pheasant pattern that my SIL has been looking for. I asked them to lower the price on each plate since I was buying all 7 and they agreed! Yippee…

4. I made Ree Durmmond’s White Chili this week and it was really good. I recommend the recipe to you. I forgot to take a picture for you but click on over and you’ll see lots of pictures…

5. NEW SHOES! I’m so happy with my new shoes that I found at good ole Fred Meyer when I was in Washington. I wanted shoes I could slip on and wear with jeans that weren’t white tennies!! They are very comfortable and give me the support I need. They are Sketchers and I got them on sale with an extra $10.00 off.

Hope you are having a good week. I’m trying real hard not to get Dear’s ick that has been keeping him home from work this week…I just might be losing that battle, ugh!

Friday ~ Finding Beauty

Claudia at Dipity Road is starting a new meme for Friday called Finding Beauty. Click on over to check it out and join in if you’d like…

After I returned to the condo in Southern California from our home in Washington State I felt the need to hit the beach and catch some of the winter beauty here in Southern California. This was taken at Pt. Mugu on Wednesday of this week.
