Special Delivery…

If we could send letters to heaven here’s one I’d send…

Dear Kathy,

How are things going in heaven? What was it like to see our Savior face to face? While you are basking in His presence we are still down here figuring out life without you, especially Bill and Jeaneen.

I wanted to share that your memorial service was really a great celebration of your contagious joy and love for our Savior. Friends and family testified to the encouragement you gave them in life and how you made them laugh time and time again. Your sister-in-law Donna read tributes from Bill, Jeaneen and several other family members and friends. Bill wrote a beautiful tribute to you called “Going Home” that was printed in the bulletin. Your friend Katie read another tribute. Bill put together a slide show with some of your favorite hymns that showed your life over the years. I was so humbled to have a shot of you and me included in the show. Many of your friends and extended family came to say goodbye including cousins from Whittier and Santa Rosa. Your long time friend Judy came from San Diego and Randy gave the message. After the service there was a nice spread provided by the church and people lingered long to talk. The next part of this day was a little surreal for me…

After your service I drove over to your house for the evening. You know this was my first time ever at your house and it was just weird stepping into your house for the first time without you physically present. Thankfully I could see you in every comfy corner and in all the decorator touches in your home. I went outside to your garden and you know who was laying out there? Yes, you guessed, Soloman. The one you so lovingly called the knucklehead cat! He must sense a bit of your presence out there.

We had some great conversations around your dining room table with – count them…4 Home Economics Majors. I didn’t realize there were so many of us out there and that you had majored in Home Economics, too. Your cousin from Whittier really made us laugh and she also made us blush a few times! So many fun and funny memories were shared. By the way…I have no idea why Bill looked at me when he asked if he should open a 2nd bottle of wine?! :0) It was a long day and I had to call it a night and head back to the hotel. We had one more event in your honor coming on Monday morning.

It was great spending time with Jeaneen and being able to give her hugs and let her express her emotions about losing you. She really misses her big sister.

On Monday morning we got together at Fair Oaks Cemetery for one more goodbye.

Your friends and family were a great support to both Bill and Jeaneen.

We were able to pray together and we sang a song together, too.

This world is not my home, I’m just passing through.
My treasures are laid up
somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus

    • O Lord you know I have no friend like you
    • If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do
    • The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
    • And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
    • Now that everyone has gone home and the busyness of preparing for your services are over your friends and family are committed to keep Bill and Jeaneen in our prayers as reality hits them in the face everyday. Even though you were physically small your presence was very large in a lot of people’s life and there is a void that will not be replaced. We are praying that Bill and Jeaneen and the rest of those of us who were close to you will accept the comfort God will give and spread your infectious joy to those God puts in our paths.
    • See you later Kathy!
    • With Love,
    • ellen b.

Indescribable ~ Worship Song

Indescribable

From the highest of heights
To the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing your majesty
From the colors of Fall
To the fragrance of Spring
Every creature unique
And the song that it sings
All exclaiming-

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And you know them by name
You are amazing, God
All powerful, untameable
Awestruck, we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God

Who has told every lightening bolt
Where it should go?
Or seen heavenly storehouses
Laden with snow?
Who imagined the sun
And gives source to the light?
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom-

Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky
And you know them by name
You are amazing, God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart
And you love me the same
You are amazing, God

I’m headed out of town without my computer. I won’t be back online until Tuesday. Blessings…

Kasey Keller Day!

Today is the last home game for the Seattle Sounders Soccer team. The governor of Washington and the Mayor of Seattle have both issued proclamations making October 15th, 2011 Kasey Keller Day. Kasey Keller is the goalie for the Sounders and this will be his last home game since he is retiring after this season. Kasey Keller grew up in the state of Washington. He has had a long successful career as a goalie. Keller played at numerous major clubs in England, Spain and Germany, including Leicester (1996-99), Rayo Vallecano (1999-01), Tottenham (2001-05), Southampton (2004), Borussia Moenchengladbach (2005-07) and Fulham (2007-08).
Keller became the goalie for the United States national team, starting for the U.S. team at the 1998 and 2006 World Cups, and the 1996 Olympics.

We are looking forward to a fun night at Century Link Field (formerly Qwest Field) honoring Keller! It’s also Fan Appreciation night. There is usually a record breaking crowd of 34,000 at a game. They have already sold over 60,000 tickets for the game tonight.

Thank you Kasey Keller! It’s been great watching your saves the past 3 seasons!

FFF ~ Fullness

Time to link with Susanne at Living to tell the Story for our favorites from this past week.

The theme for my week was filled to the brim, full, fullness…

Fullness:

1. The state of being filled to capacity 2. The state of having eaten enough or more than enough and feeling full.

1. Friday last we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving with our Canadian neighbors. My sister and her husband joined us for a Honey baked spiral ham, cheesy scalloped potatoes, asparagus casserole and rolls. We were full and satisified.

2. Saturday we had a lazy time vegging out in our robes most of the day.  Definition of vegging: to spend time idly or passively. Synonyms: chill, dally, dawdle, hang about, lounge, kick back… And what made this mood successful were all the leftovers from our Canadian Thanksgiving the night before.

3. A new series at church called “This is War”. Our pastor began a series on Spiritual warfare and the first sermon was so encouraging and practical.

4. On Monday Dear, Katie and I had a menu food tasting for the wedding next March. We got to eat so many delicious choices. It was a fun task to narrow down our choices keeping in mind our guests which include some lactose and gluten intolerant individuals.

5. Hearing from Josh and Laura from Hawaii where they are celebrating their tenth anniversary. It’s great to hear that our very hard working kids are getting some much needed fun and relaxation in a tropical setting!

Hope all is well in your part of the world. I’m headed to Sacramento on Sunday to attend my friend Kathy B.’s memorial service. If you think of it I’d appreciate your prayers for her husband Bill and her sister Jeanie as they walk through this separation on earth.

Tablescape Thursday ~ Our Canadian Thanksgiving…

It has been a long time since I participated in Tablescape Thursday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. We decided to celebrate both Canadian and U.S.A. Thanksgiving this year so I decorated the table and invited some family over for a less traditional meal.

I was happy to be able to use these green and amber goblets together.

The transferware have stable scenes on them and stagecoach scenes.

For our American Thanksgiving in November we will have Turkey and all the trimmings!

My sister and her husband joined Dear, Katie and me for our meal of Honey Baked Ham, candied carrots, scalloped potatoes, asparagus casserole, rolls. We had a simple dessert of ice cream to finish off the meal. We also test tasted some white wines to narrow down our choice for the wedding in March. We’ve already chosen the red wine.

I’m looking forward to coming around and seeing some old bloggy friends and your tablescapes this week.

Other Than Food…

…here’s what else was photographed while we waited for our tasting.

We were a little early for our food tasting yesterday so we took a little drive around the area of the wedding venue to see what we could see.

Isn’t this an inviting sidewalk for a stroll?

The wedding venue doesn’t have the best of views because this boat garage blocks a lot of it.

If you peek through the parked boats you can see Gas Works Park across Lake Union.

We are experiencing this kind of weather today with lots of powerful gusts of wind. Our power went out this morning for a couple hours because of some downed wires or a downed tree on wires. The road I take to our church for Bible Study was closed so I had to find an alternate route. It all worked out just fine because many people were late and they adjusted the start time. Flexibility is a good thing…

Warning!

If you are hungry step away from this post!

Dear, Katie and I had a food tasting for Katie and Andrew’s wedding on Monday. They said to come hungry and I’m so glad we did. Go grab a snack before you scroll through these photos…

We’re going to be served all these items plus cake!

The three of us were able to narrow down all these fabulous choices for the menu that will be served at the wedding. We considered having something that gluten, lactose and meat intolerant people could eat, too. Katie has to talk to Andrew before the final decision about the flavor of the cutting cake is determined.

We’ve had some good rain and wind today. How about you? Hope your week is starting off well.

Speaking of food…I posted my asparagus casserole (twist on the green bean casserole) at MGCC today. Click over and enjoy…

Seaplanes

“Kenmore Air was founded in 1946 by three high school friends, reunited after
World War II. With one airplane, and a single hangar near a swamp at the North
end of Lake Washington, Bob Munro, Reg Collins, and Jack Mines gave birth to
what was to become one of the largest and most respected seaplane operations in
the world.

Today, Kenmore Air is among the best-known and most respected float
plane operations in the world, flying an eclectic mix of piston Beavers and
turbine Otters and Caravans, landing passengers on glaciers, lakes and harbors
among the mist-shrouded fjords and islands of the U.S. and Canadian northwest. “

One of the options for my daughter and son-in-law’s get-away from their wedding site is to leave on a seaplane. Wouldn’t that be dramatic and fun?! Might be a little hard to tuck the wedding dress in while she boarded, though. Tomorrow we get the fun task of tasting several menu choices for the wedding. They told us to come hungry. We are really looking forward to seeing and tasting the choices we have.

I’m linking up with Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.

Thanks to God ~ Hymn

Thanks to God

Thanks to God for my Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a memory,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!

Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that I have weathered,
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Thanks for grace that none can measure,
Thanks for love beyond compare!

Thanks for roses by the wayside,
Thanks for thorns their stems contain!
Thanks for home and thanks for fireside,
Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain!
Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow,
Thanks for heav’nly peace with Thee!
Thanks for hope in the tomorrow,
Thanks through all eternity!
