The entrance to Monumentale Cemetery in Milan is as grand as the rest of the grounds. This cemetery is filled with both contemporary and classical sculptures. We were struck with how massive many of the sculptures are.
This monument reminded me so much of a story from the Old Testament. Anyone out there want to guess which one?
This cemetery would need several hours to fully take in. I will soon share the last part of the cemetery we visited including the Hall of Fame.
Hope your week is going well. So far so good here. I was happy that the constant rain from the weekend has seemed to cease. The exciting news this week is that our new cookbook, Celebrations, is in the hands of some at Menno Press. The 10 of us are excitedly and anxiously waiting for our copy to arrive!
Blessings…
Cemeteries are some of my favorite places. I would enjoy a stroll through that one. I really liked seeing Jesus and the lambs and also the grief- stricken woman.
You gals are going to have so much fun getting to see the finished book!
Tower of Babal?
Yep! 🙂
I would guess Tower of Babel, too!
Wow – more amazing statues in this cemetary. I like the picture of the couple strolling along the path. I am so excited for you all about the book!!! Hope it arrives very soon.
Wow, I would love to know the back story behind some of those monuments. I’m really curious about the tower of Babel one….although it seems to have scenes depicting New Testament stories. And kind of “how sad” is the one with the woman laying over on to the grave. I love the small cathedral one. I couldn’t see any dates, I’m assuming these were all old. That would be quite a place to wander around.
Pam, the tower has different parts of Jesus’ life depicted ending at the top with his crucifixion. We were thinking it would have been a nice touch to add a resurrected image at the top.
Monumental! I also like the photo of the couple strolling along the path.
A cemetery?!??!! The front of that place looks more like a palace or where all the stars would assemble for the Academy Awards!!!! It’s beautiful! What a lovely resting place!!! The statuary and monuments look absolutely gigantic!!!!!!! The emotion that comes from some of them is amazing, especially the one with the woman mourning at the casket. Wow…this is cool!!!!!!
Old cemeterys….there is a life story at each stone. Most interesting photos. In such a short time you were able to take in so much.
Such a beautiful place! I love cemeteries…especially old ones. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photographs.
European cemeteries are really amazing in the monuments aren’t they? I still remember some of the monuments from the one in Budapest that Mom took us to when I was ten (and that was many moons ago, let me tell you!) :v)
Your post reminded me so much of Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris with so many ornate and unique monuments and statuary. Intriguing examples you’ve included.
You know how much I love cemeteries like this! Great pictures.
