Baby + House = Love

djs-new-digsWe were happy to help Dan and Jamie celebrate their growing family and their new home with their family and friends.

2017-02-23-1st-walk-djsThis winter their area is experiencing more snow than usual. The above photos were taken from the front porch. When I visit sometime without snow on the ground I’ll be able to take more extensive photos of their property.

2017-02-26-open-house4Their new home has more open space and larger views. One great feature is their Russian Fireplace. You can see the fire glowing on the front of the fireplace. On the right side you see another glass door that can be used for baking or proofing or slow cooking. One of their open house gifts from friends was a cord of wood! Slapping my hand because I did not take a picture of the pantry which is amazing.

2017-02-27-djs-babyroom1Of course I had to show some photos of the nursery again.

2017-02-26-open-house5Their new place can fit at least 45 people milling about. I got some not so great photos of the crowd while Jamie opened presents.

collages18There’s a story behind that chicken that has been passed around the family as one of “those gifts”. We think we know who is getting it next.

djs-babyroom-003Josh and Laura were able to fly over to make it to the party on Saturday and we enjoyed part of Sunday together before they flew back to Seattle. I’m glad Laura thought to have a picture taken of the four of them.

djs-babyroom-002When we return we hope the path through the garden to the chicken coop will be easier to navigate.

We are home getting things organized at this old house so that we are ready for another quick trip across the mountains to welcome Addy in person. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

Nesting

open-house-011The nursery for Addy is taking shape. Dear painted the wall in three colors that will match the bedding for the crib. Our son painted the grey trim on the white crib. The mattress arrives soon. There will be an elephant decal to the left of the crib blowing pink bubbles over the crib on the brown part of the wall. Should be real cute.

nursery-beddingThese fabrics above are going to be the bedding for the crib.

2017-02-27-djs-babyroomIf you haven’t guessed already there is an elephant theme for the nursery. The little car used to be red and blue and Dan’s Dzeda built it for him for Dan’s first Christmas. All the grandsons got one that year. Dan and Jamie decided to use the nursery colors to repaint it. I like the teal hubcaps.

2017-02-26-open-houseDear also painted the dresser drawer fronts grey. They were brown. The rustic bookcase needs completing with a few more shelves.

2017-02-26-open-house1While we’ve been here we were able to enjoy a Baby Shower/ House Warming party at their new home with about 45 friends and family. I’ll share some photos from the event later.

We are busy helpers over here and helping to get some projects done before Addy arrives. Today Dear and Dan put garage door openers up and installed a new toilet. They also put in a new outlet for charging devices. We hope to be able to drive over the pass tomorrow for home. It all depends on the weather and the restrictions posted. We don’t have 4 wheel drive or traction tires so we have to catch a good travel window. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Sweet Baby Addy

addys-shower-058

My nieces gave a baby shower for Dan and Jamie’s Sweet Baby Addy while we all were in California on Sunday January 15th. This day happened to also be Jamie’s birthday. We celebrated our newest Daughter in law and our sweet baby Addy on the way.

addys-shower-030

Our niece Michelle hosted the shower at her home and had help from our nieces Debbee, Melissa, and Kristin. Michelle has a candle business called All Good Things Candles and she made candles for us all to take home as baby shower favors.

addys-shower-046

Before the shower started it was good to get a photo of the Bayles with cousin Annie. Dear has one brother who has three daughters. Annie was able to be at the shower her mom Christina. Christina is catching up a bit with Dear in the next photo and with our daughter Katie.

Our newest grandniece Ellie came to the shower with her daddy, our nephew Timothy.

Before the shower began we got a photo of the guys heading off for a Shotgun adventure at a local gun range.

Michelle’s yard and tables were set up with all the perfect touches for the shower. Jamie has decided on an elephant theme for Addy’s nursery.

2017-01-15-addys-shower2My nieces and sisters made piroshky earlier in the week. Three different fillings meat, potato, and cabbage that we all enjoyed. My mother would be so proud! We had great salads on the side, too.

The day of the shower was Jamie’s birthday. My nieces honored her day with a candle lit dessert that they tried to get to her before the wind blew out the candle. Just watching the effort to keep that candle lit was hilarious and fun!

We enjoyed watching little Eleanor/Ellie blowing bubbles in her drink.

We took a photo of each person and their gift with Jamie. The sun was shining but it was a very cold breezy day. It was nice to have the blankets to drape over our shoulders.

addys-shower-083

This was one of my many gifts for this first granddaughter of ours.

addys-shower-087My sister Kathy made this elephant banner for our son Daniel when he was born and Jamie chose an elephant theme for our expected granddaughter so Dan’s elephants will be used for a pattern to make some new elephants for baby Addy and then they will use Dan’s elephants that my sister made in 1980/1981 on a mobile for Addy to enjoy.

addys-shower-121The Bayles’ side of the family. It’s a treat to get together with our family for celebrations. Our nieces did a wonderful job of honoring Dan and Jamie and our first grandchild. Thank you Michelle, Debbee, Melissa and Kristin. And…thank you to my sisters Vera and Kathy for the baking day to make the Piroshky! Thankful for each one who made the drive out to Michelle and Ryan’s. Thank you to our nephew Ryan for the great adventure he planned for the guys while us gals showered Jamie and Addy.

15978086_10212028345449805_3603031649737570375_nNot only was Jamie’s birthday on Sunday but our son Dan’s and nephew Lenny’s birthday was on Monday. Then on Thursday our son Josh celebrated his birthday at Disneyland with his cousins. Birthdays galore! My adventures continue down here in Southern California. Today my sister Vera and I are taking our dear old pop to one of his favorite restaurants for lunch. Later this evening those sibs who can will gather at my sister Vera’s for a birthday celebration for our brother Tim. His birthday is the 22nd.  My feedly is not cooperating with me since I’m in a different domain so I’ll be catching up with you all when I get back to the Seattle area. For the record sunny southern California is having a bit of a identity crisis and acting more like Seattle with lots of rain and clouds. I’m listening to a constant heavy rainfall right now as I send this off to publish! I believe their drought might be officially over. Glad I got a good beach walk in yesterday…

The First…

…baby expected to arrive in January for Tim and Jess.

The first grandchild for each of these soon to be grandmothers.

The bunting says “Welcome Baby Girl!

We are all looking forward to meeting you Baby Girl!

On the Go…

Soon we’ll be in Huntington Beach again gathering for my BIL’s services and funeral. As we age we face the reality that family gatherings contrast dramatically between joy and sorrow. The last time I was in Southern California my time was divided between the Critical Care hospital waiting room and a beautiful setting at a joyful baby shower for a much anticipated arrival come January, a new grand niece.

I will do a full post on the lovely baby shower in the future.

This time when we head to Southern California more of us will gather around my sister and her kids as we lay Nick to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery. We don’t grieve as those who have no hope. We have hope and confidence that God has prepared a place for Nick. We will hug old friends and the Russians among us will welcome each other with a kiss.

When I was spending time in the waiting room at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills my eyes were opened to other families in the waiting room and how similar different cultures are at these critical times. Our first night at Cedar’s there was a Hispanic extended family taking up every chair and some on the floor of the waiting area. At least 20 or more. They vacated some chairs so my sister and I could sit down, too. As some of them left to go home they went around to each of their friends and family and gave them a hug and a kiss on the cheek. They even turned to us and gave us a kind farewell. The longer we sat together the more connected we became. The matriarch of the family offered us some food. She also shushed any of the younger folk who’s chatter got to loud. When we left we said goodbye and God Bless you. Their eyes lit up and they smiled and said God bless you, too.

We were glad the waiting room had large windows that made the space feel lighter.

We all find ourselves in a variety of waiting rooms throughout our lives. What are you waiting for? What is your hope?

Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Psalm 33:22

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. Galatians 5:5

For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:10

Celebrating Little Miss…

Katie and I flew into Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on Saturday morning. We hopped into our crumby little rental car and headed to Orange County for a Baby Shower Brunch. The newest addition to our family was showered with gifts and we finally got to see her in person and give her some squeezes and kisses. Her mommy is our oldest niece on Dear’s side of the family. Here’s little Miss…

These are Dear’s 3 nieces. Little Miss’s mommy is in the middle. Aren’t they beautiful?! Youngest niece on the left is a model.

Here’s little Miss with Auntie Annie

This is Little Miss with her older sister.

Our Katie with each of her cousins.

The new mom with our Katie.

We had a wonderful time celebrating little Miss and seeing all the fun little girl gifts she was showered with. It was easier to say goodbye knowing we’d see Dear’s family again at the wedding in less than two weeks. I failed to get a single photo of my sister-in-law who is Little Miss’s grandmother and the mother of my 3 beautiful nieces! OYE!

In the next day or two I’ll share the photos from our second big event in Orange County on this same Saturday in the evening. Here’s a sneak peek.

You will need to give me an extra measure of understanding if you do not see me or hear comments from me on your blogs in the next 13 days. We are busy around here getting all the last minute details taken care of for the wedding. We met with the wedding planner today and wrote out the big checks for the event with our final numbers handed in. Hope all is well with you all. We are being threatened again with some snow in the lowlands. Blessings…
