Hello Summer Views and News

We’ve had a mix of blue skies and rain showers for the beginning of summer. It has been a banner year for our clematis varieties.

The yellow day lilies are always the first of the lilies to bloom.

Addy and JJ had fun at Golf Camp. We visited the camp on Wednesday held at the Chewelah Golf and Country Club.

On Thursday they were able to play nine holes of golf.

On the other side of the mountains, the Seattle Sounders had tournament games with international teams and Josh and Laura were able to attend.

Our kids had uninvited visitors on their mountain. The farmer/rancher was called to lead this girl back home…but she must have told her friends that the grass was greener here because later in the day this crew arrived. There are fencing repairs needed by the owner of these cows.

We finally decided to give this Mexican restaurant a try since the ownership and management changed. We gave it a thumbs up. For our small town with limited restaurants it’s interesting that we have three Mexican Restaurants.

We are still enjoying the many shades of green with pops of color on our property.

We had some rain on Saturday and on Sunday in the late afternoon we had thunderstorms and a real good soak.

This Monday morning would be a great time to do some weeding since the soil is very wet and softer than usual.

Quote of the week:

“Never start with your problems. Never! Never start with earth; never start with men. Always start in heaven; always start with God.”
(Martin Lloyd-Jones, Seeking the Face of God: Nine Reflections on the Psalms)
Psalm 71:1 In you, O LORD, do I take refuge…

  1. Oooh I love that quote!! I’m sure the ‘wildlife’ was fun to see : ) Your plants are all lovely as always. Have a great day!

  2. Your Clematis are so beautiful, Ellen. I love that shade of red…so deep and rich.

Yay for JJ and Addy being able to attend golf camp! They both look like they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hope the owner of the visitors gets the fence repaired soon.

Have a lovely week ahead, my friend. xx

  3. Beautiful gardens Ellen! Hope you get out before the heat sets in… if it is hot where you are. Thank you for sharing. Had to laugh at the cows getting out. Reminded me of our farming days.

I hope you have a great week!

  4. Your property is so pretty! My yellow day lilies are blooming, too, are so pretty to behold! We had rain a decent bit the past two weeks and I was good about weeding when the soil was wet. Your food out looks really good and I’m glad the grandkids are enjoying their summer!

  5. Beautiful views. Thank you for sharing them. Oh my on the cows!

How fun to go to the country club and I have to say that the meal looks delicious.

  6. Not sure if you got my comment or not. They wanted me to sign in and I don’t see it here.

    Enjoyed this post.

  7. Are your yellow lilies Stella ‘d Oro? We had them in Colorado and they did so well.  Your Clematis is gorgeous!!!

    And you have Shasta Daisies!!!

THREE Mexican restaurants in one small town?! Well, most people do enjoy the menus (including me).

Wonderful quote from Martin Lloyd-Jones. I don’t think I’ve seen that before, but it’s sooo true!

    • Hi Barbara, I wish I knew all the names for plants…but I don’t. All I know is that they are yellow day lilies. I have two or three other colors that pop up later. There’s on yellow one that is a softer yellow and a little more ruffled on the edges. Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Your gardens are beautiful!! I love it all. Funny about the cows. Sometimes our neighbor cows pay us a visit too. Once we had a couple of them come right up to the basement glass doors and peek inside.

  9. Your purple clematis is beautiful! I tried to gow it many times but the deer eat it all.

Your little golfers have good form! Bravo!

Glad to hear the new Mexican restaurant is good! We don’t eat out often any longer as prices have gone up so high and I always feel I could make it better myself, but Mexican food is usually very affordable.

    • Pat, the deer have so much stuff to eat here that they haven’t eaten all the clematis blooms. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Happy Summer to you.

  10. Your backyard looks stunning with all the pops of color – my clematis hasn’t bloomed yet, but it is getting ready to. I can’t wait! It has been a stunning year for my peonies. Oh my. Yes, we have the same type Mexican food here in our town. Glad the kiddos got to enjoy a fun day of golfing! We got about 3/4″ of rain here, very welcomed! Many blessings to you!

  11. Your summer views are so beautiful! I’m not a huge fan of summer, mainly because I don’t enjoy the extreme heat and humidity that comes with it, but there is no denying summer’s beauty! I think if you have to have three of the same kind of restaurant, Mexican is a good choice! Fun for the grands to go to golf camp and learn a new skill!

  12. A wonderful time with the family and your garden looks incredible. Loving your clematis. I have been wanting to plant those for the trellis on our deck. The color of these is gorgeous! My son is a big fan of Mexican food. He has several of them not to far from where they live. A great idea, this golf camp. Happy day to you Ellen!

  13. I am finally back online and catching up.

I love your flowers and all the green, especially the trees. And that clematis! I bought one but haven’t planted it yet. Waiting for a cooler day– hopefully soon.

Today, after 93F temps, we had a rain shower. Our poor plants really needed that.

PS: I am going to a Crew game this weekend 🙂 Willow
