Eating Well…

…twice a day.

We’ve found some fun cafes and have also enjoyed meals in the spas we stayed overnight in. For us older folks it works well to limit ourselves to 2 meals while traveling. We’ve been splitting dishes, too. Fish tacos, granola crusted french toast, an omelette stuffed to the gills and covered with gravy (a real heart attack on a plate) We split that omelette, thank goodness. We also came across some fun food related scenes and eateries from our past that made us slam on the brakes to take a photo…

“Oh I’d love to be an Oscar Meyer Weiner, that is what I’d truly like to be…”

We’ve been having a nice relaxing time and that has inspired us to plan another getaway soon…

Tomorrow we head home. Can you believe it’s September already?!

Oh Ye of Little Faith…

We have been having weather that is just perfect for Dear and me. We saw lots of beauty today and have seen and heard the power of our Creator.

I’ll share more when I get back to my little corner of the world. Until then we are finding sunshine in the most unexpected places…

Hope you are all well…

Leave it to Us…

…to pick the worst weather days of the week to head out on a road trip to Oregon.

No worries because we are sure to drown our weather sorrows eating lovely plates of food like these.

If you don’t see anything new around here or don’t see comments from me on your posts you’ll know why. As usual I’m not guaranteeing you won’t see anything new here. It all depends on wi-fi and down time in a hotel room.

Glamorous…

“It would have been pretty darn difficult for actress Dina Merrill to have ever pulled off playing a commoner on stage, film or TV. She just had too much class. The epitome of poise and glamor, the New York-born socialite and celebrity was born in 1925 the daughter of financier E.F. Hutton, the founder of the Wall Street firm, and heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post of the Post cereal fortune”. (from a mini biography of Dina Merrill)

I really enjoyed the glamour surrounding the Hillwood Estate in Washington D.C. I’m not one to fuss much with glamour but I can appreciate it in others. Unlike Dina Merrill I can pull off being a commoner every day.

I’m quite comfortable in blue jeans and a comfy tee-shirt. I like a certain level of glamour once in a while. That glamour still has to have an element of comfort with it.

Dina Merrill whose birth name was Nedenia Marjorie Hutton, was the only child of Merriweather’s union with E.F. Hutton.

Wow! How about these wedding bouquets!?

Marjorie Merriweather Post seemed to have connections with other very glamorous people, too.

I think my most glamorous days have been at weddings. Growing up my mother always made sure my sisters and I had a new home sewn dress for Easter and Christmas. Those were glamorous days, too. How about you? Do you enjoy glamour and what was the most glamorous event you attended or were the star of?

He Took My Feet from the Miry Clay ~ Traditional Spiritual

He Took My Feet from the Miry Clay

He took my feet from the miry clay,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!
And placed them on the rock to stay,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!

Refrain

I can tell the world about this,
I can tell the nations I’m blest,
Tell them that Jesus made me whole,
And He brought joy, joy to my soul!

O my Lord did just what He said,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!
He healed the sick and He raised the dead,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!

Refrain

O Jesus washed my sins away,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!
And made me happy all the day,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!

Refrain

He died on the cross to save my soul,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!
He ransomed me and made me whole,
Yes, He did! Yes, He did!

Refrain

Watching…

…the news from the East Coast and hoping for the best for all the people who live there. Praying for all those who will be in the path of Irene. We are paying close attention and our daughter is getting updates from Camp Lejeune, her and Andrew’s home in the near future. Camp Lejeune is on the coast of North Carolina, southeast of Jacksonville.

That said, is anything else happening around the world? Is Irene the only news?

This photo was taken in Ventura, California over a year ago during some high surf activity.

FFF~ Evergreen State Fair

It’s time to link up at Susanne’s Living to Tell the Story with your favorites from this past week. It’s finally summer in the Northwest so we decided to go to the Fair!

This week my favorites are all from the Evergreen State Fair that my daughter Katie and I attended on Thursday.

#1 ~ Evergreen is a small fair close enough to our home with free admission on the first day of the fair until 1 P.M. You spend enough on food at the fair to make free admission a favorite for sure…

#2 ~ Yummy Fair Scones. The trailer was right at the entrance to the Fair and we were ready for a little breakfast treat at 10:00 when we arrived.

After we pigged out on some Fair Scones we decided to go to the Swine pavilion and check out the pigs.

#3 Fair animals were in abundance. We enjoyed the swine, the sheep, the goats, the bunnies, the cattle, and the horses, especially the Clydesdales.

4. All the crazy fair food choices, especially the deep fried choices. We tried to get deep fried cookie dough but they didn’t have it available. I had piroshky for lunch and Katie had a Gyro.

5. Lastly we had a little fun checking out all the fair goods like the amazing frosty shaker, the amazing cookware, the amazing knives, and all the rest of the amazing products available just for me. I did make one purchase at the amazing flag booth. I got a nativity flag to hoist on my flag pole at Christmas!

On our way home I commented that a small fair is probably the best kind of fair for me. Have you gone to a Fair this summer?

Ten Years!

August 25, 2001 was their wedding day!

Our son Josh and his lovely bride Laura!

What a fun celebration it was 10 years ago. I said it 10 years ago and every year since “God blessed us all when he brought these two together!”

They are a blessing to each other, to their parents, to their siblings, to their cousins, to their aunts and uncles, to their co-workers, to their friends, and to their neighbors.

May God continue to bless them richly in all the years to come. Thank you Lord for this special union!!

Signs of My Summer…

It’s that time of the week again when I scramble to find photos that will fit the Alphabet letter of the week. This week we are up to the letter S. I know it’s Wednesday and not Thursday yet but I’ve got something special to post tomorrow…

Jenny keeps us all on track with Alphabe-Thursday so click on over to join in the fun.

Signs are my choice for the letter S!

Sisters by marriage at Julienne.

I was happy to even find some signs in my archives that had words that began with the letter S.

This is the original Starbucks in Downtown Seattle across from Pike Place Market.

This next sign is from a couple summers ago from Central California. It just made me chuckle.

Summer made a slow appearance here in Western Washington but these last weeks of August have been very nice. Even though Fall is one of my favorites I’m happy that the sun and warmer temperatures finally blessed our region. Next week Dear is off and we are going to head to the Oregon Coast and then inland to Bonneville Hot Springs. I probably won’t have a chance to participate with the letter T. Hope you all are still enjoying your summer…

Pasta Carbonara ~

Head over to Mennonite Girls Can Cook for the recipe.

I’m happy to report my son got Katie and me off the couch last night and we walked over to the local high school and had some exercise. Mostly I walked while Katie and Josh did some jogging and running around the track. After the football squads ended their practices we played a little soccer. I managed to record 7245 steps.

I hope to get walking back into my normal routine. I have already changed up the way I eat and since June 12th I’ve manged to drop 13 pounds and boy does my body appreciate it. I’ve got another 10 pounds to lose before I shop for a Mother of the Bride dress.
