Ruby Tuesday ~

Photo taken from downtown Seattle looking across Elliott Bay to West Seattle. We’ve had very few sun breaks in the last few days. More rain is on it’s way with cooler temps rolling in. Is it sunny where you are? Have a great Tuesday.

To see more Rubies head over to Work of the Poet.

When Darkness Falls…

…light is good.

John 8:12 (English Standard Version)

I Am the Light of the World

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Our winters bring darkness early here in the Pacific Northwest. Last night we were pitch black by 5:30 in the afternoon. I really enjoy lights in the winter. They always have a special brightness.

All that’s left around our house to do for Christmas is to make sure we have all the items we need to make our Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas dinner. Since we are having a rib roast with all the trimmings on Christmas evening I’ve decided to make Borsch for our smaller Christmas Eve time. Christmas morning it is our tradition to have Swedish pancakes that Dear expertly makes for all of us but not till after stockings.

What do you eat on Christmas Eve and on Christmas?

Ruby Tuesday ~ Snow Edition

Early snow for us in the Seattle area. Snow in the Seattle area is always a surprise, this early snow is doubly so. My hummingbird feeder has a nice layer on it. I watched as a poor little hummer tried to find the feeder source. So sad! I’ll have to run out there and knock the snow off!

And in late breaking news: Katie made it on an earlier flight then her original one out of Seattle on Monday afternoon and thankfully so or else she would have missed her connecting flight in San Jose. Her 4:00 flight finally departed at 6:11. This will still put her into San Jose in time for her connection. We are so fortunate and thankful to God for watching over her and us as we drove her to the airport. Snow has a way of paralyzing people and the roads in Seattle!

Where Oh Where…

…did Fall go?

The snow has been falling steadily since 7am this morning on our hill. Yes, we live on a hill which means for me “the driving in snow wimp” I’ll be stranded on this hill today and probably for most of tomorrow. Sometimes getting down the hill works but coming back up the hill doesn’t. Our daughter is a little concerned about her flight out of Seatac tonight. She’s headed to Florida to see her Marine who gets leave Thanksgiving weekend. She has all night flights with planes changing in San Jose and Atlanta. We’re praying for the best for her. Time will tell. Dear will be driving her to the airport not Mrs. Wimp. Our Thanksgiving company arrives tomorrow night from California. We already had our Thanksgiving meal at home but we are looking forward to being with a house full of our friends on Thursday. I’m bringing the Yams and a few other treats.

So how’s the weather where you are and what are your Thanksgiving plans?

What a Wonderful Sight!

Genesis 9: 12-16 (The Message) ~ God continued, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and everything living around you and everyone living after you. I’m putting my rainbow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant between me and the Earth. From now on, when I form a cloud over the Earth and the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll remember my covenant between me and you and everything living, that never again will floodwaters destroy all life. When the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature on Earth.” Genesis 9: 12-16 (The Message)

Ezekiel 1:28 (NIV)

Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, …

I’m always excited when I see a rainbow. And when I see double, that’s really special. How about you? We spotted this one late in the afternoon on Monday.

I’m linking up to Susan’s Outdoor Wednesday.

A Day Like No Other ~

It seems that is a good description of every new day!

My day started early when Dear called at 5:30 A.M. to say his car had died just off his exit in downtown Seattle. Dear started to walk to his office while I called AAA-Washington and took off from home to meet the tow truck driver downtown. By the time I got there the car was all loaded up and ready to go. The driver followed me home and dropped the car off in the driveway. I was enjoying my morning coffee by 7 A.M. I was very happy with the great service we received from AAA.  Later in the day I had to travel back downtown to pick Dear up from work. Tomorrow I’ll show you the wonderful rainbow we had after dinner tonight.

Announcements, announcements, announcements!!

I now have a email subscription option in my sidebar. Some people have asked about this and my sister tutored me through adding it. Thank you sister!!

Yard Art ~ Is that a Scarecrow?

This lady caught my attention on a back road through Lake Forest Park close to Seattle. So what do you think? Will she scare the crows away? A policeman staging a speed trap must have wondered what I was doing when I zipped off the road into a driveway to take this shot. Thankfully I was going real slow so I wouldn’t miss this art.

Please visit Mary at Work of the Poet to see more yard art.

Yard Art ~ Bears!

Do you see interesting things in yards when you drive around in your neck of the woods? Visit Mary at Work of the Poet to see some fun and unusual examples.

It was a wet and drizzly day and I had to take some mail to the post office. On my way back I took the scenic route over Norway Hill and had to roll the window down in my car and take these shots. I think that the size of this yard and the location really does lend itself to this type of yard art.

What do you see when you take the scenic route? Hope you have your camera at the ready!

I’m sure you’ll recognize this yard Beth!!

After 91 Minutes of Torture…

…Donovan elevates the USA to the Round of 16!

What great endurance this team has to come back from having goals disallowed for no good reason. I’m impressed that they just keep going. What an impressive hard working team! With the win today the USA tops their group to go on. Next game Saturday at 11:30!

The photo of Donovan was taken at Qwest field in Seattle during the MLS Championship game last November.

Good Saturday to You…

Seattle is serious about soccer and they hope to have a good bid for the World Cup to come here in the future. They decided to make their appeal in a visual way at the last Seattle Sounders Game before the World Cup break! Hope it works!!

We are away from the computer today. We traveled early to Anacortes to the friendliest World Cup Soccer viewing location we could find to watch the USA vs. England game before our Kayaking trip. We had limited time for travel to make our kayak start time so this was our best option since we did not want to miss a minute of this game. Our kayaking tour starts at 2:00 for 3 hours and we hope it’s not a Gilligan’s Island experience.

Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday. We have been promised wonderful weather today with temps in the 70’s. We have our sunblock, our hats, our waterproof shoes. Here’s hoping we don’t tip over because I’m taking my good camera, too!!
