Outdoor Wednesday ~ Laguna Beach

It’s time to join Susan at A Southern Day Dreamer for a look at the outside world around Bloggyland.

Last week I didn’t participate because I was away from my computer at Laguna Beach and then Disneyland. Today I’m sharing some shots I took walking along Heisler Park off Cliff Dr. in beautiful Laguna Beach, California.

The most Pelicans I’ve ever seen flying together in formation!

Enjoy the beautiful world God created for us today and everyday!

Miss Hope’s First Visit to Disneyland!

Miss Hope’s mom Mandy, Me, Michelle, Melissa, Lana G!, Jackson and Kathy met at Disneyland on Wednesday to enjoy Miss Hope’s first trip to Disneyland.

We started with lunch at the Carnation Corner Cafe.

We decided to start the fun with the “It’s a Small World” ride.

On to the Carousel. This was Miss Hope’s first ride on one. She was so interested in everything and when the ride came to the end she cried when Aunt Lana took her off her horse!

Sisters …so cute!

We headed for Toon Town next and let Miss Hope travel on foot for a while…

We enjoyed so many culinary favorites while at the Big D! Frozen chocolate covered bananas were a big hit with everyone including Miss Hope!

Time to head to Pooh Corner…

Miss Hope was thrilled with Winnie the Pooh. Jackson watched over her to make sure she was O.K.

She wasn’t as familiar with Tigger!

Okay! This is my favorite expression so far. Doesn’t it look like she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar?

We ended our time on the Tea Cups!

And left the park with Aunt Lana’s souvenir gift for Miss Hope…

Friday’s Fave Five ~

Our first full week of May is complete already! Boy time flies when you’re gaining weight. Oops that just slipped out…

It’s time to join Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and post our 5 favorites from this past week. Here we go…

These early Saturday morning walks on the beach always make it into my favorites. Last Saturday was a breezy cold morning with threats of rain.

On Saturday afternoon Dear and I drove south to attend a mini high school reunion from my class of 1968. I was so thrilled when my friend Bet walked in. We hadn’t seen each other since my wedding…

Early in the week I drove out to Pt. Mugu to practice using my big camera. I had a good time and have posted several photos already from my time there.

I really enjoy thrift store shopping and I get excited when I find goodies like this.

I almost made it through this week without mentioning food but here I go again! I enjoyed baking this for my Women’s Friday Bible Study group. I got the recipe from the Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog here.

Hope everyone is doing well and found lots to be thankful for this week. Blessings…

Outdoor Wednesday ~ May

For my outdoor photos this week I took a little trip to Pt. Mugu to practice with my new camera. I was hoping for some good crashing wave action to test out my quick clicking feature. (that’s not the technical term but I’m just not savvy enough to know what that function is really called)

The beach was lovely as usual. I walked above a rock outcrop to see how the waves were crashing…

It really was fun to be able to click away with no pauses in between!

This was the best splash during my time here.

While waiting for more crashing waves I captured these pelicans coasting by…

In my neck of the woods and all along the road to get to Pt. Mugu there are farmlands. On my way home I stopped at the side of the road to get a shot of this pretty sight. I also passed rows of Strawberries and Artichokes.

Later in the day when Willow and I were walking we saw these lizards enjoying the sunshine. “Here lizard, lizard, lizard”… (does anyone remember that taco bell commercial with the talking chihuahua??)

Happy Outdoor Wednesday everyone and thank you Susan for being such a great hostess. Click over to A Southern DayDreamer to see more of the outdoors around the world…

Window Views ~ Getty Villa

The Teach…Mary started this new great meme last week called Window Views. Click over to her new blog called Window Views to see the rules to participate. Easy rules, easy participation…

Last Spring I went to The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades with two new bloggy friends. I was intrigued by the view of this beautiful sculpture of this woman in a gallery opposite the room I was in. I zoomed in to get a closer view through the window…

Then when I finally made my way to the room she was housed in, photos weren’t allowed. Oops!

For more Window Views visit Mary here.

The Herons

The Herons of Elmwood

Warm and still is the summer night,
As here by the river’s brink I wander;
White overhead are the stars, and white
The glimmering lamps on the hillside yonder.

Silent are all the sounds of day;
Nothing I hear but the chirp of crickets,
And the cry of the herons winging their way
O’er the poet’s house in the Elmwood thickets.

Call to him, herons, as slowly you pass
To your roosts in the haunts of the exiled thrushes,
Sing him the song of the green morass;
And the tides that water the reeds and rushes.

Sing him the mystical Song of the Hern,
And the secret that baffles our utmost seeking;
For only a sound of lament we discern,
And cannot interpret the words you are speaking.

Sing of the air, and the wild delight
Of wings that uplift and winds that uphold you,
The joy of freedom, the rapture of flight
Through the drift of the floating mists that infold you.

Of the landscape lying so far below,
With its towns and rivers and desert places;
And the splendor of light above, and the glow
Of the limitless, blue, ethereal spaces.

Ask him if songs of the Troubadours,
Or of Minnesingers in old black-letter,
Sound in his ears more sweet than yours,
And if yours are not sweeter and wilder and better.

Sing to him, say to him, here at his gate,
Where the boughs of the stately elms are meeting,
Some one hath lingered to meditate,
And send him unseen this friendly greeting;

That many another hath done the same,
Though not by a sound was the silence broken;
The surest pledge of a deathless name
Is the silent homage of thoughts unspoken.

These were taken with my new camera. I still have a lot to learn but it’s been fun using it.

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage unless I pay them a lot of money. I’m slowly cleaning up many posts from this time period and deleting their ugly grey and black boxes with a ransom request. Such a time consuming bother.

Time for Recuperating…

The Seagulls can relax now, Katie’s flight back to Seattle was early this morning and we were on the road at 5:30 AM. I made the round trip and was home at 7:30 AM. If I was a napping kind of person that’s exactly what I’d be doing right now. It was so nice to have Katie around here for the week and now my body will have to be eased back into something more normal for me. I hope to be able to work up a post on the wedding and more about Forest Lawn Glendale.

Hope your week is going well. Blessings…
