Three or More Tuesday ~

It’s time for Three or More at The Gypsy’s Corner. Visit Tam to join in on the fun posting anything you want that’s three or more.

I found these goodies today at my local Goodwill. Monday is Senior day and they give a 25% discount to anyone 55 or older. I bought all this stuff for $7.00. Four goblets that I think are really great, 5 napkins, and 3 Teacups and saucers. Thanks for visiting me and continuing to enable me in my Thrift store shopping addiction.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!

Three or More Tuesday

My Three or more photos are all taken at El Matador Beach North of Malibu. The pelicans were out in numbers and it was fun to try to capture them in flight.

Tam at A Gypsy’s Corner is the hostess for Three or More each week. Click on over to see more or to join in.

I bought these fun Tea Towels for 50 cents each from a Thrift Store in Ventura, California a couple weeks ago, 6 or $3.00!

Three or More ~ Crosses

All my posts this week will be relating to Holy Week and The Celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.

These are some crosses that I have at my home in Washington and at the Condo in California.

A prayer from Richard of Chichester (1197-1253) English bishop who fought to abolish the abuses common in the church of his day.

“Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits that you have given us,
for all the pains and insults that you have borne for us.
Most merciful Redeemer, Friend, Brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly,
day by day.”

Annie Laurie ~ Glendale Forest Lawn

My Three or More this week is all about Annie Laurie. When Katie and I visited Glendale Forest Lawn last Monday we enjoyed The Wee Kirk O’ the Heather! Thank you to Tam at The Gypsy’s Corner for hosting this weekly event.

Forest Lawn Glendale has several lovely churches on their grounds. This one was built to resemble Annie Laurie’s Church in Scotland. I’ve included the Stained glass windows in the church that tell her story in glass and the poem that was made famous about her written by William Douglas and the Old Scottish Song that is based on the poem sung by Deanna Durbin. Annie’s father denied William as a suitor for Annie. One of the reasons Annie’s father was not fond of William was because of his political/religious affiliations.

Annie Laurie by William Douglas

Maxwelton’s hills are bonnie
Where early falls the dew
And ’twas there that Annie Laurie
Gived me her promise true.
Gived me her promise true
Which ne’er forgot shall be
And for bonnie Annie Laurie
I’d lay me down and die.

Her brow is like the snow drift,
Her throat is like the swan,
Her face, it is the fairest
That e’er the sun shone on.
That e’er the sun shone on
And dark blue are her eyes
And for bonnie Annie Laurie
I’d lay me down and die.

Like dew on the daisy lyin’
Is the fall of her fairy feet
And like winds in summer sighing
Her voice is low and sweet.
Her voice is low and sweet
And she’s all the world to me
And for bonnie Annie Laurie
I’d lay me down and die.

I’m adding this You Tube of the song being sung by Deanna Durbin…

Three or More ~ Forest Lawn Glendale

My daughter Katie has been visiting us since last Wednesday and she returns to Seattle early tomorrow morning. Today we decided to drive to Forest Lawn in Glendale which is a Memorial Park and Mortuary but also filled with beautiful works of art. In fact it was the Builder’s Creed to provide a different place for burial that depicts Eternal Life and Light not Darkness.

This sweet grouping is set before the Builder’s Creed which speaks of the vision he had for this beautiful park. You can read the creed here.

Forest Lawn-Glendale has been home to a world-recognized collection of art and architecture since 1906.

Here is some of what you can see at this landmark location:

  • Exact replicas of Michelangelo’s greatest works such as David, Moses, and La Pieta
  • Leonardo da Vinci’s immortal Last Supper re-created in brilliant stained glass; two of the world’s largest paintings
  • The Crucifixion and The Resurrection
  • Original bronze and marble statuary, rare coins, valuable 13th century stained glass, old world architecture

unfortunately The Crucifixion and The Resurrection exhibit was not open today. :0(  We did see the Last Supper (no photos allowed) and many beautiful bronze and marble statues. The next three bronze statues really caught my eye.

Three or More ~

This photo of my kids on the horse was taken in July of 1988 on our move from Southern California to the Seattle Area. We stopped in Yuba City at Dear’s Aunt and Uncles’s farm/ranch. The kids were thrilled to get to ride a horse even if they had to share the ride.

I just got home on Sunday from spending a week with my kids in Seattle. I always get a little nostalgic when I travel away from them again…
