Finding Beauty ~ Look Up!

It’s time to join Claudia at Dippity Road for Finding Beauty.

My husband was out barbecuing on Tuesday night and called me out to our little front patio to check out the great sky! Little puffs of clouds covered the sky around our condominium complex. I love it when all I have to do is step out my front door and see something as delightful as this!

Friday’s Fave Five ~ January 8th

Looking back at this week and remembering some favorites. Visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to join in with your favorites!

We arrived back in Southern California on Sunday night and began the task of getting used to being here in the south.

1. On Tuesday morning Willow and I resumed our walks in her neighborhood. It was good to walk again and to push ourselves up those hills. We had clear, sunny, crisp weather for our walk.

2. On Wednesday I drove to Pt. Mugu because I wanted some winter shots of the beach. I never tire of seeing the beach and hearing the waves break. God has really created beautiful things for us to enjoy.

3. I made a quick stop into the local Goodwill and was able to pick up 7 Johnson Bros. dinner plates in the Asiatic Pheasant pattern that my SIL has been looking for. I asked them to lower the price on each plate since I was buying all 7 and they agreed! Yippee…

4. I made Ree Durmmond’s White Chili this week and it was really good. I recommend the recipe to you. I forgot to take a picture for you but click on over and you’ll see lots of pictures…

5. NEW SHOES! I’m so happy with my new shoes that I found at good ole Fred Meyer when I was in Washington. I wanted shoes I could slip on and wear with jeans that weren’t white tennies!! They are very comfortable and give me the support I need. They are Sketchers and I got them on sale with an extra $10.00 off.

Hope you are having a good week. I’m trying real hard not to get Dear’s ick that has been keeping him home from work this week…I just might be losing that battle, ugh!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Back in the Hood…

It’s time to get your outdoor shots together for Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan a Southern DayDreamer! Thanks Susan!

It’s great to be in Sunny Southern California again and to resume my walks with Willow! Sheesh, it’s been over 8 weeks since we last walked! The sun peeked over the Santa Monica Mountains as we started out. Willow said “that’s a nice shot”. So I said, “Okay I’ll take a picture.”  When Bloggers walk they are always looking for a great shot.

After we made it up the first hill huffing and puffing a little (remember it’s been awhile since we’ve walked)  we spotted this great Poinsettia plant and I thought of Ruby Tuesday…except it’s almost Wednesday so this will work for O.W.

Hope your week is going well and that you are surviving whatever weather is being thrown at you!!

Like a Bird Flying South…

Dear and I boarded a flight at Seatac Airport on Sunday afternoon to LAX with very little Security issues and once again made the comment …
“Flying out of Seattle is so nice compared to other airports”!! I got this shot of Rainier before everything clouded over!

Then we talked to our seating companion who flew out of Canada to the U.S. and told us he had to go through 4 security screenings and then had to have a full body search. He couldn’t have anything under the seat in front of him except for a size restricted personal bag, no carry on luggage.  So flying into the U.S. is a bit tough right now…

We arrived in L.A. and made it back to the condo in great time hardly ever needing to use our brakes which is a good thing because our brake lights were not working! Thank you to my sister Kathy and our BIL Len being brave enough to deliver that car without brake lights to us at the airport.

Dear caught a icky bug and is under the weather so I had to pick him up from work early today. I was able to pick up the part we needed for the car and it’s working beautifully now so I’ll make a visit to the CHP tomorrow and have them OK the repair so we don’t have to pay a fine. Oh right I forgot to tell you that over the Christmas break my brother from Dallas was using our car and got a ticket for not having brake lights. Ouch! We had no idea the brake lights weren’t working when we loaned him the car…

Today I’ve enjoyed the lovely winter skies here in Camarillo. Sunny and warm with great clouds. Tomorrow Willow and I will resume our walks! Yippee! So much to catch up on. Dear cleaned the condo real nice before he came north so I don’t have much to do around here. Hope you all are getting in the swing of things in 2010!

Sing to the Lord of Harvest ~ Hymn

Sing to the Lord of Harvest

Sing to the Lord of harvest,
Sing songs of love and praise;
With joyful hearts and voices
Your alleluias raise.
By Him the rolling seasons
In fruitful order move;
Sing to the Lord of harvest,
A joyous song of love.

By Him the clouds drop fatness,
The deserts bloom and spring,
The hills leap up in gladness,
The valleys laugh and sing.
He filleth with His fullness
All things with large increase,
He crowns the year with goodness,
With plenty and with peace.

Bring to His sacred altar
The gifts His goodness gave,
The golden sheaves of harvest,
The souls He died to save.
Your hearts lay down before Him
When at His feet you fall,
And with your lives adore Him,
Who gave His life for all.

To God the gracious Father,
Who made us “very good,”
To Christ, who, when we wandered,
Restored us with His blood,
And to the Holy Spirit,
Who doth upon us pour
His blessèd dews and sunshine,
Be praise forevermore
!

Ruby Tuesday ~ Camarillo White Horses

Welcome to Ruby Tuesday hosted by Mary at Work of the Poet. Visit her to see more Ruby…

Our town is named after Adolfo Camarillo and on Sunday there was a 145th Birthday celebration at Camarillo Ranch House in honor of him. He had this Victorian home built for his family in 1892.  It is now a historical site and open for tours and other functions. Adolfo donated lots of land to the city including the land where the high school was built and named after him. He also was the owner of the famous Camarillo White Horses. The main reason we decided to go to the birthday bash was to see these white horses first hand.

It was great see the different personalities of these horses. The one with the man leading him (or the horse leading the man) was very feisty and hard to handle. See the great ruby ribbons on the older horse? She seemed to be the oldest and most docile of the 3 horses they had there.  Here’s the third horse.

I’m including a comment I received from Ynez who happens to be Adolfo Camarillo’s Great granddaughter! …”Hello and thank you for the beautiful tribute you have done on your site to my great-grandfather’s birthday celebration and our horses. Your photos are great of the house, too. I thought you and your followers would like to have the names of the three colts that you have in your photos. Left top – El Rey; left bottom – Gavilan; right top and bottom are of Xamarillo. All 3 are 16-17 months old. We are so happy that the horses bring so much pleasure to so many people. Thank you for your wonderful comments.”
If you would like more information about the Camarillo White Horses, please go to our website at http://www.camarillowhitehorses.org.

and here’s one more shot of the feisty one…

I’ll be posting more photos from the birthday celebration on Wednesday and show you what I bought…

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Cloudy Walks

Early Saturday morning Dear and I had a cool cloudy walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, California. Then on Tuesday morning Willow and I joined 3 gals for a walk at the Blueberry Farm.

What a difference a week makes. Last Tuesday Willow and I walked on her friend’s Blueberry Farm and the Skies were clear and blue. This Tuesday we walked the Blueberry Fields again this time hurrying before the rains came down.

There’s Willow way back there. We had a fun little crowd walking this day.

I thought this mushroom was very cool…

At the end of our walk we tasted 3 or 4 different varieties of Blueberries. Yum!
