ABC Wednesday ~ Pacific Ocean

Welcome to ABC Wednesday.

P is for the Pacific Ocean

We live about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It’s such a blessing to be able to jump in the car and be at the ocean in 10 minutes! This is the Pt. Mugu area on the coast in Southern California.

These first two shots are taken right from the shore.

This is taken from about 25 feet above the water.

This shot is taken on one of our favorite hikes to Scenic Pt. about 450 feet above the Pacific.

Tablescape Tuesday ~ French Duvet & Blue

It’s time to visit Susan again at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Tuesday.

This week my inspiration came from a Goodwill purchase I made last week. The tablecloth on this table is actually a twin french ruffle duvet that I bought for $7.95. It’s from the Target Shabby Chic line and sells in the store with a pillow sham for $59 or $69 (I forget which). I came home pulled it out of the package (still pretty wrinkly) and gathered up everything I could find in blue or white in the condo.

The main patterned dishes are Johnson Bros. Indies. I purchased all the different pieces of this pattern at different times at Goodwill or other thrift stores. The Teapot is Blue Danube (Japan). The larger blue-gray plates are from a Target Holiday line a couple years ago that I bought on a really good clearance. I even bought the great silverplate with the letter B engraved on them from Goodwill. The little white jar with lid is Villeroy and Boch. Nothing on this table was purchased at full-price retail.

Ruby Tuesday ~ Election Day

Well here’s hoping this Tuesday will be a true Ruby Tuesday. Sorry Blue, I couldn’t resist. Please don’t judge me too harshly even though I’m NOT for the blue candidate :0) He’s not my Obi wan kenobe!

I thought these Maker’s Mark Bottles were great!

More Ruby for today. These pulls are at one of our favorite eateries here in town. Now see that upper right ale in my collage. It is called Arrogant B*****d Ale.  My blog is rated G so I’ll leave it at that. But it seems like an appropriate ale to celebrate the end of all the political rhetoric we’ve been subjected to these last several months.

Blue Monday ~ Peacocks!

On my way to Orange County many Saturdays ago I stopped at a Target in Norwalk and heard a familiar bird call. There was a farmhouse next door to the Target with several Peacocks. I walked over to the fence to see if I could get a glimpse. I had to zoom in to get these shots so they are not as clear as I wish they were but you can still get an idea of the vibrant colors this fella had!

Peacocks are large, colorful pheasants (typically blue and green) known for their iridescent tails. These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird’s total body length and boast colorful “eye” markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues. The large train is used in mating rituals and courtship displays. It can be arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird’s back and touches the ground on either side. Females are believed to choose their mates according to the size, color, and quality of these outrageous feather trains.

The term “peacock” is commonly used to refer to birds of both sexes. Technically, only males are peacocks. Females are peahens, and together, they are called peafowl.

Jesus, My Only Hope ~ Hymn

I’m so thankful for Jesus, my only true hope!

Jesus, My Only Hope

Jesus, my only Hope, Friend ever dear,
Bend to my earnest prayer Thy gracious ear;
Come from Thy throne above, come and my dross remove,
Fill me with perfect love, Savior, to Thee.

Jesus, my only Hope, grant me Thy grace,
Teach me in joy and pain Thy hand to trace;
Keep Thou my heart in peace, bid ev’ry murmur cease,
Come and my faith increase, Savior, in Thee.

Jesus, my only Hope, Jesus, my King,
Help me with heart and voice Thy praise to sing;
Now let Thy beams divine bright o’er my pathway shine,
Draw me, O Savior mine, closer to Thee.

Jesus, my only Hope, be Thou my Guest;
Under Thy mighty wings, O let me rest,
Rest till the angel band home to the promised land
Bears me at Thy command, Savior, to Thee.

The First Dawn in November…

30 Days of Thanksgiving…I’m joining in with several bloggers who are posting what they are thankful for each day this month.

I’m so glad I stepped out past my front porch patio this morning and looked to the East. This is the first beautiful dawn of November. I was overjoyed to see it and I’m very thankful for God’s beautiful creation.

Pink Friday and Saturday!!

***This will be at the top of my blog through tomorrow so if you want to see new posts scroll down. Sad to say my computer issues are getting worse. When I try to go to blogs to comment I get booted out and my computer shuts down. We are going to try to work on this problem and try to fix it this weekend. :0(

Happy Halloween and Happy Pink Saturday (early)!

Who can resist this cuteness? Who can just leave it till Saturday? Not me! So this is my Happy Halloween to y’all and Happy Pink Saturday post.

This is my sweet little 9 month old niece in her butterfly costume that she wore in her neighborhood Halloween parade. Oh how I wish I could see her in person and kiss those cheeks.

For more Pink Saturday wait till Saturday and visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound

Round Robin Challenge ~ Food Glorious Food!

I’m having computer issues that are zapping my ability to post much and to get around much. My computer keeps shutting down on me. Please bear with me.

The only thing I did different in this recipe was to use my husband’s favorite olives instead of black olives. (Kalamata and Green) You can also add artichoke hearts to this dish. My husband always orders this if it’s on the menu at an Italian restaurant and many times they have artichoke hearts included in the sauce.

Boy did the condo smell good all night long after I made this!

Fridays Fave Five

1. Dear and I were well enough to have our Saturday walk and this time around we opted to head north and have breakfast at Cold Springs Tavern tucked away in the San Marcos Pass above Santa Barbara. After breakfast we took a foggy/misty walk along the shore and to the Andree Clark Bird Preserve in Santa Barbara.

2. I made one of Dear’s favorite Italian dishes this week Puttanesca and I’ll be sharing the recipe soon.

3. I really enjoy finding a bargain and this week I bought a White French Ruffle twin duvet cover at Goodwill for $7.95. It’s from the Target Shabby Chic line. When I was in Target later in the week I saw it on the rack for $69.95! Oh and I don’t have any twin size beds. I bought it to use as a tablecloth. Here’s a photo of it on the table straight out of the package with some added pretties on top…

4. I got to see some great photos of my sweet niece and I’m sharing it today for my Happy Halloween post and my Pink Saturday Post combined! Pure Pink Sweetness happening here!

5. It’s been cooler this week so it’s been easier on Willow and I on our walks. The Mule Deer love it, too.

My computer is acting up and I’m hoping it fixes itself soon. When I access blogs from my WordPress blog things seem to work fine but if I go to the linkies or google reader and try to access blogs I get booted out and my page shuts down.  Where did all my great background color and design disappear to? Wah, wah, wah….
