Mother Theresa ~ Peace

“But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child – a direct killing of the innocent child – murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even his life to love us. So the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love – that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. ”

Today as a woman I cannot stay silent on this issue. I agree wholeheartedly with Mother Theresa! My choice is to speak up now and stop sticking my head in the sand on this issue. And yes, this one issue is what will determine who I vote for on Tuesday…

SkyWatch #16 ~ Santa Barbara

These were taken this last Saturday on a walk at a Bird Refuge in Santa Barbara, California. It was 11:30 in the morning and the fog/marine layer had not burned off yet…

This next shot I took on a walk in Camarillo on Wednesday this week. I loved the sunshine and the Autumn colors in the leaves on the tree and on the ground. Oh and of course there’s that Mule Deer, too :0)

BooMama’s Souptacular Crockpotalooza

There’s a lot of great recipes going on over at BooMama’s ! Click on over to see all the hoopla. I’m adding this crock pot roasted chicken recipe into the fray…

I bought a whole chicken when they were on sale last week and decided to try cooking it in the slow cooker. I found the basic recipe at All-Recipes.com and there’s even a video here.

I sprayed the inside of the crock with Pam and then washed and dried the chicken. Next I stuffed the cavity with lemon wedges, onion wedges and garlic peeled and gently crushed. I tied the legs together and put a rub all over the skin. The original recipe calls for salt, pepper and paprika which would work just fine. I placed the whole chicken on top of wadded up foil so the juices could run free off the chicken. I then poured white wine in the bottom of the crock, about 1 cup. I set the crockpot on high and let it cook 6 hours.

The last 45 minutes I added carrots and little potato wedges.  I tried to get them on the sides and under the chicken so they’d be flavored by the juices.

This was very good and moist chicken.

Boasting About Tomorrow

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

ABC Wednesday ~ Outdoors in Santa Barbara

We are on the letter O and my choices are October, Outdoors, On the Coast, On a Walk, Overcast!

Dear and I drove up the coast last Saturday. After a drive through San Marcos Pass to stop at Cold Springs Tavern for breakfast, we headed back to the shoreline in Santa Barbara for a walk. We headed up the beachwalk to the Bird Refuge. There was quite an intense marine layer effect happening on our drive and during our walk. We could not see out into the Pacific. We headed to the refuge and the layer was a little less dense here.

I was really happy to capture this Pelican at the refuge. Oops I guess I should have saved him for next week. P is for Pelican…

Tablescape Tuesday ~ Bavarian Dishes

It’s time to visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for her Tablescape Tuesday.

This week I’m sharing a table setting of Bavarian china. This table and setting is in my condo in California. Most of my stash of table goodies are at my home in Washington so this was a fun challenge for me here.

I bought this set of Bavarian Dishes from a local thrift store. The silverplate flatware with B engraved on them was a wonderful find at Goodwill in Bellevue, Washington. The Pearl napkin rings were from Target clearanced. The napkins are from Sur la Table. The Goblets, Vase, and tablecloths came from Goodwill also.

I really like the iridescense in the tea cups and the gold handles.

Blue Monday ~ Kitsap Peninsula

Whenever we take the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry across the Sound to the Kitsap Peninsula we pass a gas station that has these carved pieces all over their grass area. It always grabs my attention and makes me smile but we’ve never stopped until this last summer on our way back from Port Gamble. There were bloggers in the car so there was no excuse not to stop. Then we saw their fabulous sign “Take Photos Have a Good Time” A sign that speaks to the heart of a blogger!!

Have a wonderful day and a special “shout out” to my friends Dave and Beth who pass this site way more than me!!
