K is for Katie!

K is for Katie

K is for our Katie. Katherine on her birth certificate. This photo was taken by Jamie Spiro. This is a repost from a few years back but I was stumped for the letter K and am always ready to share about our wonderful daughter Katie.

Our Katie has an amazing amount of knowledge stored in her brain and I will show you some photos that might explain where some of that knowledge comes from.

At a very young age if Katie went missing this is where you would find her.

She was most drawn to books with words, not picture books. We had a few old school reading books and these are the ones she’d pull off the shelf and carefully go through.

As you can see she did not have a shortage of toys but she always seemed to go for the books.

We didn’t realize how well she could read until a trip to Meadowdale Beach Park with our friends the Spiro’s. Jody was walking hand in hand with Katie when they came to the tunnel under the railroad tracks that took you to the beach side of the park. As they approached this tunnel with this sign Katie said quite clearly to my friend Jody, “Caution Low Head Clearance”

We realized then that we had an almost 4 year old who definitely knew how to read. Who knows how much she was reading without us knowing before this experience.

Here’s Katie in a Kilt that I bought in Scotland in 1973! Hard to believe it fit me once.

Here’s our Katie in 2010 on the night she got engaged to Andrew.

Katie and Andrew were married at the Magistrate’s office in North Carolina when she visited Andrew March 11, 2011. He is deployed at present and when he returns we will be having an official wedding. Right now it looks like that wedding could be on March 11, 2012. We have to wait on the Marines to know for sure. For those of you who pray, please pray for our Andrew in Afghanistan and for our Katie as she waits for his safe return. Semper Fi!

I’m linking to Alphabe-Thursday with our great teacher Jenny! Thank you Jenny for keeping us on track.

Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and photobucket stamped versions. They are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

Glorious Sunrise!

Psalm 90:14  ~ Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Our cold clear days have afforded us some beautiful sunrises.

The colors change quickly so it’s good to pay close attention with your camera at hand.

The rain is suppose to return on Thursday. I’m in the midst of doing some re-evaluating of my daily schedule and seeing how things can improve for me and the family. On Monday and Wednesday mornings I go to the YMCA for Zumba. I felt the need to have an aerobic workout on Fridays, too, so Mondays wouldn’t wipe me out. The solution that I came up with is to do a thorough house cleaning every Friday. Cleaning is a great aerobic workout and it’s a win win idea for myself and the family. Somewhere along the way I have gotten out of the weekly cleaning schedule.

On Thursday Katie and I have an appointment to check out another wedding venue. I’ll make sure and take some photos!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

FFF ~ The Needle & The Dress…

Time to look back and find 5 favorites from the past week. If you want to join in visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and sign in with your link.

The Space Needle, Wedding Dress and the family time around them were my favorites from this past week.

1. On Saturday Katie and I traveled to the Seattle Center for a wedding show. The most famous landmark in the Northwest is located at the Seattle Center. It was a beautiful day to walk around and get some good shots of the Space Needle.

2. On Wednesday Dear, Katie and I went to Katie’s first wedding dress fitting. There were needles and pins involved here, too. This was Dear’s first time to see the dress on Katie and he wholeheartedly approved of the gown. Good thing since it’s his hard earned cash that payed for it.

3. After the fitting we went to Z Tejas for a bite to eat before we headed across Lake Washington to a Wedding Open House at the Space Needle. This time we got to see it up close and personal in the evening.

4. We got some great VIP attention and enjoyed appetizers and drinks on the house while we considered the space for a possible wedding venue.

There wasn’t a bad view in the house.

5. This was my very first time up in the Space Needle. It also is on my 60 things to do in my 60th year. So I’m on my way in completing my 60. I’m still working on the list and as soon as I complete it I’ll share it. We completed the evening by going up to the observation deck and checking out the 360 degree view of Seattle.

What were the favorites from your past week?

Roadtrip!

We’re hitting the road today to Seattle. On the way we are stopping overnight in Clovis for Jeff and Heather’s wedding. Jeff is my cousin Jim’s youngest son. Jim’s wife Jeanie was my best friend in college at Cal State L.A. I introduced her to my cousin and they got married the same year Dear and I were married. At the wedding we’ll get to see family and friends. I’m looking forward to seeing Jeanie’s sister Kathy B. who has become a wonderful bloggy friend of mine. My parents and sister Kathy will also be at the wedding. We’ll hit the road bright and early on Sunday morning and drive straight through to Seattle.

If you don’t see me around the blogisphere for a few days you’ll know why…

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.

I Won’t be Needing my Passport…

The wedding in Cancun has been cancelled. The young couple decided they wouldn’t be able to live with themselves if even one guest got sick. They are seeing if they can put together a ceremony in New York this weekend…

The airlines are being generous with changing tickets. We’ll see how the resort handles their and our losses. So far we will only have to forfeit one night of our deposit. It would be nice to get a full refund….

Our hearts go out to not only our Jenna and Justin but to the country of Mexico and to all who will suffer loss because of this epidemic.

Update: The wedding has been moved to a hotel in Orlando Florida for this Saturday. Lots of phone calls and scrambling and changes of flights and the event will be happening. :0) Unfortuanately Dear and I will not be able to transfer our tickets for Florida but our son and DIL are going to be able to swing it!

Jamie & Sarly’s Wedding

Our Son Dan’s best friend Jamie got married yesterday.

They’ve been friends a long time. This is the two of them on the way to and at Lakeside Bible Camp the summer of 1990.

Here they are 18 years later still the best of friends celebrating this wonderful event. Over the years that these two have been friends our families have grown close, too. There will always be a special place in our hearts for the Dickinson Family.

The wedding was held at Jardin Del Sol in the town of Snohomish, Washington. It was a beautiful outdoor setting. Dear arrived in Washington the night before and it was wonderful to have him here to enjoy this great celebration with us.

Sarly was a stunning bride. Jamie and Sarly composed their own vows. They had a sand ceremony instead of a candle ceremony symbolizing two becoming one. Sarly’s brother read a poem he wrote for the couple.

Sarly and her mother as she walked down the aisle.

The happy “Just Married” Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Dickinson!

On the way to the first dance showered with bubbles.

Dave and Beth have 3 sons, Matt, Aaron, and Jamie. These are some photos of the Dickinson Family.

The wedding party. Our son Dan is in the three middle shots. Oops, I kinda concentrated on the guys. Sorry girls!

Dan during the ceremony

Here’s Dan toasting Jamie and Sarly and entertaining us with stories of how he first became friends with Jamie back in grade school. All of the groomsmen and bridesmaids gave toasts.

After dinner it was time for the cake. Then on to more dancing. The Bride with her father and the groom with his mother.

I think these are such sweet mother and son shots!

Sarly enjoying the tenderness of this moment, too.

This is Dave and Beth’s newest little granddaughter. She is so cute and what a little trooper, she managed to stay awake through all the festivities without a fuss! Beth is so excited to finally have some girls in the family.

Laura, Josh, Jamie and Sarly.

Dear and Dan sharing a Cuban Cigar. This is a very rare moment… “The smoking the cigar part”

It’s so nice for Dear and I to be together finally for the next two weeks in Seattle. After that we drive back to our condo in Southern California.

Congratulations Jamie and Sarly. We had a wonderful time at your wedding. We will always hope for the best and God’s richest blessings for the two of you in your life together.

WFW ~ Genesis 2:24

Genesis 2:24 ~ “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”

This photo was taken this past Saturday at the wedding of my nephew Tim to his bride Jessica. Timely for sharing this verse for Word Filled Wednesday.

For more WFW click on over to The 160 Acre Woods and our lovely hostess Amydeanne!

The Wedding ~ Tim and Jessica

What a wonderful ceremony and reception to celebrate the marriage of my nephew Tim to his beautiful bride Jessica.

My Grand Nephew Jackson was the Ring Bearer and he was perfect!

He walked carefully and looked oh so like a little prince.

Jessica was a stunning Bride.

The Groom, my nephew Tim, with his brothers and family. Tim is the one on the left in the upper photo. That’s his brother Levi with him. My brother Steve’s family is excited to finally have another woman in the group. The boys are happy to have a sister.

So much fun to see all the cousins together having a good time.

The Sisters, Vera, Lana, Ellen, and Kathy

The happy newlyweds. My nephew Tim…if he thinks he needs a drink now, just wait! No worries that’s only Martinelli’s and he really didn’t seemed stressed with all the excitement around him.

My married kids! Hard to believe they’ve almost been married 7 years!

My parents, Tim’s paternal grandparents at the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. See that last photo of my dad hugging Tim and Jessica, he decided it was time to take my mom home because she was tired so he walked right up to Tim and Jessica while they were having their first dance to give them a kiss and hug goodbye. He doesn’t really understand the concept of the first dance, since none of his children danced at their weddings. It was a kodak moment and all of us kids were belly laughing. Such a Moisi moment!!

Here’s my extended family minus 10 who were not at the wedding.

At the end of such a long eventful day we were all ready to go to sleep just like our Princess Hope.

Up To The Rehearsal Dinner and Beyond…

Praise God from whom all blessings flow everything came together beautifully for the Rehearsal Dinner. We served Brisket, Barbecued Chicken, Pasta Salad, Potato Salad, Barbecue Beans, Fruit Skewers and Rolls. For dessert we had assorted goodies, Nazook, Bite size Brownies, Madelines, Scones, and Bite size blueberry muffins. The picture above is Dear loading the Barbecue to take to the Bride’s house where we were having the rehearsal dinner.

It was so much fun to have everyone chipping in to help make this a night to remember.

Don’t ask, we don’t know what my nephew Levi had in mind when he put Jackson on Josh’s shoulders here but Jackson sure is intent on reaching up to the sky. Jackson is my Grandnephew and He was the Ring bearer at the wedding. And while we are on the subject of our Prince Jackson, here is a collage of our Princess, my new niece Hope!

She is 5 months old now and really got loved on during all our family gatherings surrounding the wedding. She lives in Dallas with her mom and dad so this was the first time most of her cousins and Aunts and Uncles got to meet her.

We know how to cram fun into a weekend people. On Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. we met our dear friends from Seattle, Dave and Jody, for a walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura. We met Dave and Jody 23 years ago in Ventura at Bible Fellowship Church and we’ve been great friends ever since. They live in the Seattle area now, too, and were down in Ventura for a medical function at Ventura County Hospital. Even though the wedding was later in the day we were thrilled to be able to have an hour to walk and talk with them.

On Saturday after our walk with Dave and Jody we met part of the family and wedding party at Brent’s deli for brunch/lunch. There were 20 of us enjoying good Jewish Deli food. Pastrami on Rye, Matzo Ball soup, kosher pickles, lox and bagels…

Look at the size of that Matzo ball in that soup! We really had a good time here and it was great to see the groom, our nephew Tim, before the wedding.

On the way home from brunch we fit in a little shopping trip to the Camarillo Outlet Mall. We hit Banana Republic, Puma, and Betsy Johnson where Katie tried on this fun coat.

We made it home in plenty of time to get all dressed up for the Main Event. Tomorrow or Wednesday I hope to post the Wedding photos.

Getting Ready

My front porch plants were just sitting on the concrete floor so Dear suggested I look for a plant stand. Don’t have to suggest to me twice to shop for something we need want. So on my way to buy replacement batteries for our garage door openers I went to Ross and found this Plant stand that folds up!

I love the details on the metal. It was Tuesday so they give us older gals an extra 10% off! Sweet!

Now my three plants are nice and tidy and up off the concrete.

On the shopping note we are getting ready for a big Bagdanov family weekend. My nephew Tim is getting married to Jessica a week from this Saturday. Since we are going to cram a few extra bodies into our condo for part of the week I went in search of an extra aero bed. We have a queen size one and we’re adding a twin size one.

We are very pleased with this product!

Got some jersey sheets that were on sale to go with the bed…

Our son and his wife are flying in on Tuesday night and our daughter and brother’s family are flying in on Thursday. Family Day at Disneyland is planned for Thursday for whoever is here. It will be interesting to see when I can fit in some blogging as I’m also in charge of catering the Rehearsal dinner. I’ve got lots of help for that but it takes a lot of creative mind effort to pull it off. My family is wonderful at pulling together and making an event happen so I’m not concerned. If I don’t get around like usual you will all understand why…
