Mosaic Monday ~ Laguna Beach

For more Mosaics please visit our hostess for this weekly event Mary at Little Red House.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ May

For my outdoor photos this week I took a little trip to Pt. Mugu to practice with my new camera. I was hoping for some good crashing wave action to test out my quick clicking feature. (that’s not the technical term but I’m just not savvy enough to know what that function is really called)

The beach was lovely as usual. I walked above a rock outcrop to see how the waves were crashing…

It really was fun to be able to click away with no pauses in between!

This was the best splash during my time here.

While waiting for more crashing waves I captured these pelicans coasting by…

In my neck of the woods and all along the road to get to Pt. Mugu there are farmlands. On my way home I stopped at the side of the road to get a shot of this pretty sight. I also passed rows of Strawberries and Artichokes.

Later in the day when Willow and I were walking we saw these lizards enjoying the sunshine. “Here lizard, lizard, lizard”… (does anyone remember that taco bell commercial with the talking chihuahua??)

Happy Outdoor Wednesday everyone and thank you Susan for being such a great hostess. Click over to A Southern DayDreamer to see more of the outdoors around the world…

Three or More ~ Pelicans

My three or more this week are photos I took of Pelicans we saw this last Saturday at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura.

The Herons

The Herons of Elmwood

Warm and still is the summer night,
As here by the river’s brink I wander;
White overhead are the stars, and white
The glimmering lamps on the hillside yonder.

Silent are all the sounds of day;
Nothing I hear but the chirp of crickets,
And the cry of the herons winging their way
O’er the poet’s house in the Elmwood thickets.

Call to him, herons, as slowly you pass
To your roosts in the haunts of the exiled thrushes,
Sing him the song of the green morass;
And the tides that water the reeds and rushes.

Sing him the mystical Song of the Hern,
And the secret that baffles our utmost seeking;
For only a sound of lament we discern,
And cannot interpret the words you are speaking.

Sing of the air, and the wild delight
Of wings that uplift and winds that uphold you,
The joy of freedom, the rapture of flight
Through the drift of the floating mists that infold you.

Of the landscape lying so far below,
With its towns and rivers and desert places;
And the splendor of light above, and the glow
Of the limitless, blue, ethereal spaces.

Ask him if songs of the Troubadours,
Or of Minnesingers in old black-letter,
Sound in his ears more sweet than yours,
And if yours are not sweeter and wilder and better.

Sing to him, say to him, here at his gate,
Where the boughs of the stately elms are meeting,
Some one hath lingered to meditate,
And send him unseen this friendly greeting;

That many another hath done the same,
Though not by a sound was the silence broken;
The surest pledge of a deathless name
Is the silent homage of thoughts unspoken.

These were taken with my new camera. I still have a lot to learn but it’s been fun using it.

Time for Recuperating…

The Seagulls can relax now, Katie’s flight back to Seattle was early this morning and we were on the road at 5:30 AM. I made the round trip and was home at 7:30 AM. If I was a napping kind of person that’s exactly what I’d be doing right now. It was so nice to have Katie around here for the week and now my body will have to be eased back into something more normal for me. I hope to be able to work up a post on the wedding and more about Forest Lawn Glendale.

Hope your week is going well. Blessings…

Outdoor Wednesday ~ E.W. Low Tide

Time for another Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan at A Southern DayDreamer. My outdoor photos this week are from Ventura, California.

Early on Saturday we drove to Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura to enjoy the low-tide. We love to be able to explore these tide pools that are visible when the tide is low.

I thought the colors of these anemones were wonderful.

We were amazed to spot this Sand Shark in one of the pools and we investigated and discovered it was dead.

The light of dawn had a pretty effect on the water, sand and sky. Those black spots you see in the water are surfers.

On our way home we spotted this pretty Wisteria and I had to stop and take some photos. The Wisteria in Southern California blooms a lot sooner than in Washington State.

Blue Monday ~

This is a blue life guard tower at Emma Wood State Beach or a Million Dollar Beach front piece of property (Dear added that…hee, hee). Lots of blue in the background, too.  Happy Blue Monday everyone!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Walks and Birds!

Susan at A Southern Day Dreamer started Outdoor Wednesday where you can post any outdoor photos you’d like to share.

My outdoor photos this week were taken Saturday at the beach and Tuesday on a walk with my bloggy friend Willow.

These little Sanderlings are so much fun to watch because they move really quickly all together.

On Saturday it seemed like the SeaGulls wanted to fly right at my camera.

We have seen lots of Pelicans flying just above the water on our walks. This is the first one we’ve seen just resting on the sand.

It’s been raining in Southern California for a few days now so on our walk today Willow and I saw this waterfall that we generally do not see during most of our dry days here.

Quail are the State Bird for California and we saw a nice little group of them. Such a great looking bird.

Usually these little birds flit about so much I can’t get a photo but this group decided to sit still long enough for me to click away.

More evidence of our rain here. This little run-off creek is generally bone dry on our walks but today it was babbling quite nicely for us!

Three or More Tuesday!

My Three or more Tuesday this week is from our early morning walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura on Valentine’s Day. Four Godwits on the sand digging with their long beaks to find some goodies to eat. Hey look there are 3 or more rocks and 3 or more waves, too.

Friday’s Fave Five

Our first Friday in February. Time to think back over the last week and choose 5 favorites. Our hostess Susanne provides Mr. Linky for you to join in if you’d like. So head on over and join in on the fun.

1. Saturday morning walks with Dear are always on the top of my list. We had a low tide walk this last Saturday and saw lots of birds and collected several shells. We generally start these Saturday morning walks before the sun rises.

2. On Sunday after a great church service filled with worship we headed to Agoura to do some antique shopping. We found a nice Italian restaurant to have a snack before the stores opened at 11:00.  Hand Rolled Meatball SandwichTopped with Marinara Sauce and Mozzarella (we grind our own beef & pork) Mama’s Italian Kitchen in Agoura.

3. We decided to add a DVR to our Fios service at the condo. I never imagined how simple it is to record programs we want to watch later. No punching in start time or end time. I just click on the show and it takes care of recording it no matter how short or long it is. Then when we decide to watch the programs we get to skip all the commercials. That was a favorite this week.

4.  Eating in every night this week. We’ve had some good eats. Can you tell food is an important part of my life. :0)

5. Dear and I are still walking during the week and working out on the bowflex. Those work outs and walking with Willow most days  really makes me feel better. On Thursday we had some real good rain in Camarillo so Willow and I didn’t walk. Even though she grew up in Oregon she doesn’t walk in the rain :0)
