ABC Wednesday ~ Lovely, Lovely October

L is for Lovely, Lovely October

Lovely, lovely October

Ere, in the northern gale,
The summer tresses of the trees are gone,
The woods of Autumn, all around our vale,
Have put their glory on.

~ William Cullen Bryant

The top collage is October in our neighborhoods in the state of Washington in the Northwest. The bottom collage is October in our neighborhoods in Southern California in the Southwest. I choose to praise God for the beauty of October in both. What a wonderful world He created for us to enjoy.

Tablescape Tuesday

When I was in Seattle a couple weekends ago my daughters and sister played dress up the table for Fall! It was fun and this is what we came up with.

The plates are Charter Club Grand Buffet from Macy’s that I bought at a great clearance price. The Chargers are from Target. The sterling is International 1812. The goblets are from target and the champagne flutes are from Marshalls. I picked up the napkins at a Target clearance and the napkin rings are from Sur la Table.

This is a Thanksgiving table from 2004 with a different tablecloth and with some berries added to the napkin rings. This was before I started blogging so my photograph doesn’t show the table detail as well as I would have liked.

Dawn at Emma Wood State Beach

Dear and I attended church on Saturday evening this week so on Sunday morning we headed to Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura for an early morning walk.

We saw the sunrise.

The waves were beautiful to see and to hear.

As we walked closer to Surfer’s Point we began to see Surfers trying to catch the best waves.

There’s nothing like an early morning walk on the beach to set your mind on things above and to cause you to praise God’s mighty name and his power in creating the world we enjoy.

We shared the beach with lots of birds, the gulls, the godwits, the sanderlings, and the herons. That’s Dear enjoying the waves. And here’s a collage of some of the birds we viewed on this lovely Sunday morning.

“There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country.  A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo.  Even a bicycle goes too fast.”
–   Paul Scott Mowrer

“The soverign invigorator of the body is exercise, and of all the exercises walking is the best.”
–   Thomas Jefferson

Hope you have a wonderful week.

Today’s Flowers #9

Plumeria (common name Frangipani; syn. Himatanthus Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) is a small genus of 7-8 species native to tropical and subtropical Americas. The genus consists of mainly deciduous shrubs and trees. P. rubra (Common Frangipani, Red Frangipani), native to Mexico, Central America, and Venezuela, produces flowers ranging from yellow to pink depending on form or cultivar. From Mexico and Central America, Plumeria has spread to all tropical areas of the world, especially Hawaii, where it grows so abundantly that many people think that it is indigenous there.

Blue Monday ~ English Chippendale

Welcome to my Blue Monday. I’ve posted these dishes that I love before but not for Blue Monday and since they are very blue I will show them again. I have 4 place settings of these dishes that I purchased in 1984 at a Model Home furniture and accessories sale in my neighborhood in Ventura, California. They are English Chippendale by Johnson Bros. England. The set cost me $25.00.

Am I a Soldier of the Cross ~ Hymn

Am I a Soldier of the Cross

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His Name?

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.

When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.

~ Isaac Watts

Isaac Watts wrote this hymn in conjunction with a sermon he was giving on I Corinthians 16:13 (published 1721-4)

I Corinthians 16:13 ~ “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.”

Pink Saturday ~ Churchill Cups & Saucers

It’s Time for Pink Saturday again…

On my trip to the Seattle area last weekend I went shopping with my sister at our favorite thrift store, Goodwill in Bellevue. I spotted eight Churchill saucers and was hoping there were cups to match somewhere. I turned around and there they were 8 cups to go with the 8 saucers and a sugar bowl, too! The saucers were $.99 cents each and the cups were $1.49. Whoohoo!

For more Pink visit our fabulous hostess Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.

The End of Summer

It’s time for the Round Robin Photo Challenge and the theme is End of Summer.

The Southern California end of summer signs…

Another tell tale sign that summer is over…

Beautiful spider webs with sparkling dew…

And here is a view of the end of summer from the state of Washington…
