Friday’s Fave Five ~ 2009 Finale…

My final Fave Five in 2009 will be unconventional because this was a weird week. Visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to join in.

Here are 5 things I saw that made me smile when I was in New Mexico.

Three of these signs were taken at the Chaos Cafe in Artesia, New Mexico. If you are ever driving through town we recommend breakfast here.

On the window of a coffee/espresso shop in downtown Artesia

On our way North out of Artesia we drove through Roswell and these were the street lamps that lined the main thoroughfare!

The Roswell UFO Incident was the alleged recovery of extra-terrestrial debris, including alien corpses, from an object which crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, USA, on or about July 8, 1947. Since the late 1970s the incident has been the subject of intense controversy and the subject of conspiracy theories as to the true nature of the object which crashed. The United States military maintains that what was actually recovered was debris from an experimental high-altitude surveillance balloon belonging to a classified program named “Mogul”; however, many UFO proponents maintain that in fact a crashed alien craft and bodies were recovered, and that the military then engaged in a cover-up.

The incident has turned into a widely known pop culture phenomenon, making the name Roswell synonymous with UFOs. It ranks as one of the most publicized and controversial UFO incidents ever.

***On a more personal note Dear flies into Seattle Friday night and we’ll have 2 weeks together in Washington before we fly back to Southern California on January 3rd…

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.

  1. Ohhhhhh my gosh! Those Roswell street lamps are hilarious! I LOVE that! And the signs in the restaurant are great too! Sounds like a really FUN place to eat! But I LOOOVE that glass sign! That was pure genius! Where was THAT at???

  2. Ellen, Yes, it was BJ’s and yes, we had a pizookie! BJ’s in Del Amo Mall in Torrance. I forgot to mention the street lamps–hilarious!

    Enjoy your time with Dear.

  3. Very unique signs – and cool lamps. I remember watching a movie about that incident. Strange.

So glad that Dear will be home with you.

    Happy weekend!

PS – got a cool plate at VV today – and thought of you 🙂

  4. this Fave five made me smile. I love the street lamps! So cool.
Have a Merry Christmas with your family and may 2010 be full of all the nice things for you and yours!!

  5. A fun list, for sure. I love the interesting signs you see when you travel – you found some good ones! Thanks for sharing them.

We were surprised when we were in Roswell that it is a good sized town – and that UFO’s are ‘small potatoes’ as far as tourism is concerned. Since we’d only heard of Roswell in relation to ‘the incident’, we thought there would be more made of it – in the interest of attracting visitors.

I also have a photo of one of those streetlights. 🙂

  6. Those are fun posts. My daughter was in Mexico last two weeks and said, “They sure celebrate Christmas different than us.” I think she was feel happy to be home again.”
