Halloween Tablescape Thursday…

Today is a fun day in blog world because Susan at Between Naps on the Porch hosts Tablescape Thursday. It’s a chance to set a table and share your ideas with others. It’s fun to see the creativity out there. Because Saturday is Halloween I decided to try to come up with a Halloween Scape.

I found 4 of these cute Pumpkin and Scarecrow Placemats at a thrift store last weekend. I paid $1.95 for all 4. I wanted to show you them before I covered them up with chargers and stuff. The spider dish candle holder was from Target clearance last year and I think I paid about 50 cents for it.

The white chargers with black jewel borders were from T.J. Maxx. The square pumpkin plates are paper from Target. The polka dot napkins and the Pewter forks, knives and spoons were from a thrift store, also.

I don’t have a lot of Halloween accessories but was happy to scrape up enough for a scape :0)

Have a safe and sane Halloween Weekend everyone…

WFW ~ Romans 1: 18-20

God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Adolfo Camarillo…

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan at A Southern DayDreamer.

On Sunday we attended the Celebration of Adolfo Camarillo’s 145th Birthday. Our town is named after him. He donated a lot of land to the city and to the county. The highschool was built on land he donated and is called Adolfo Camarillo Highschool. The Party was at the historical home he built for his family in 1892.

The house and gazebo were decked out for the festivities. Cake and punch were served.

The Adolfo Camarillo High School Marching band was in attendance and among other songs played Happy Birthday.

Some of the famous Camarillo White Horses were in attendance. To see more photos of the horses with links about their history click here. I’m also including a photo of Adolfo Camarillo on his Camarillo White Horse.

There is a huge Morton Bay Fig tree, native to Australia on the property. The grounds are lovely and weddings and other functions are held here.

I’m including a few shots from the inside of family home. It is decorated for Fall right now and soon it will be redecorated for Christmas. I did not leave empty handed from the celebration but I made this sweet little purchase…

Friends of the Camarillo Ranch House were selling some country wares to help support the house.

Tea Things Tuesday ~ Pink…

It’s time to visit Kim for Tea Things Tuesdays

These are a few of my tea cups with pink. Hope you all are having a lovely Fall. I’m still waiting for cool temperatures here in Southern California to give me the sense of Fall. Have a great week and have a cuppa soon!

Ruby Tuesday ~ Camarillo White Horses

Welcome to Ruby Tuesday hosted by Mary at Work of the Poet. Visit her to see more Ruby…

Our town is named after Adolfo Camarillo and on Sunday there was a 145th Birthday celebration at Camarillo Ranch House in honor of him. He had this Victorian home built for his family in 1892.  It is now a historical site and open for tours and other functions. Adolfo donated lots of land to the city including the land where the high school was built and named after him. He also was the owner of the famous Camarillo White Horses. The main reason we decided to go to the birthday bash was to see these white horses first hand.

It was great see the different personalities of these horses. The one with the man leading him (or the horse leading the man) was very feisty and hard to handle. See the great ruby ribbons on the older horse? She seemed to be the oldest and most docile of the 3 horses they had there.  Here’s the third horse.

I’m including a comment I received from Ynez who happens to be Adolfo Camarillo’s Great granddaughter! …”Hello and thank you for the beautiful tribute you have done on your site to my great-grandfather’s birthday celebration and our horses. Your photos are great of the house, too. I thought you and your followers would like to have the names of the three colts that you have in your photos. Left top – El Rey; left bottom – Gavilan; right top and bottom are of Xamarillo. All 3 are 16-17 months old. We are so happy that the horses bring so much pleasure to so many people. Thank you for your wonderful comments.”
If you would like more information about the Camarillo White Horses, please go to our website at http://www.camarillowhitehorses.org.

and here’s one more shot of the feisty one…

I’ll be posting more photos from the birthday celebration on Wednesday and show you what I bought…

Mosaics With Blue Confessions…

It’s the time of year for scenes like these. Confession #1: All these scenes are from last October.

These shots are from this year, this past Saturday. Getting closer to Blue here. Confession #2: I’ve started a weight/exercise regimen. I wasn’t going to share this at all because every time in the last year I’ve “tried” something and shared it I end up gaining weight and I’m a little embarrassed about that. So the program I’m trying gives me one day a week to eat whatever I want. That day was Saturday so Dear and I were up early as usual and decided to make a 3 mile roundtrip walk to a donut shop. I sense some skeptics out there shaking their heads and thinking poor ellen b. she’s doomed to failure again. I’ll try to keep you posted on how good or bad I do.  :0)

Finally I’ve gotten to the blue for Blue Monday. These shots are from Saturday also and this was a great new Mexican spot we enjoyed in Ventura, California called Taqueria Tepatitlan. Remember this is my eat anything day and I didn’t take photos to show you what I had for dinner! Look real hard at the window and Corona sign and you’ll see the blue. Confession #3: Since there was so little actual blue in my shots I added the blue background to trick you into thinking this qualifies as a Blue Monday Post.

Now make sure and visit Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday and visit Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday!

O Lord, All Glorious, Life of Life

O Lord, All Glorious, Life of Life

O Lord, all glorious, Life of life!
To Thee we raise our grateful song;
Lift up our souls from thoughts of self
To Thee, to Whom all lives belong.

Below all depths Thy mercy lies,
Above all heights Thy love ascends;
Thy providence our path surrounds,
Thy watchful care each step attends.

From Thee all good desires proceed,
All holy thoughts we gain from Thee;
The good we do is Thine alone,
Thine shall our heart’s thanksgiving be.

Friday’s Fave Five ~ October #3

It’s time for Friday’s Fave Five hosted by the lovely Susanne at Living to Tell the Story. Click over to join in. It’s a good exercise of looking back and remembering favorites, blessings, good things that have happened.

This has been a different kind of week for me and come to think of it the last 3 weeks have been “different”. I’m in the midst of changes to my usual routine around the condo and out and about. One major change that a psychologist could probably run with is the fact that I haven’t purchased anything from a thrift store in the last 3 weeks. Hmmm.  On to my favorites…

1. On Saturday I met up with 9 of the gals in my family for a tea. It wasn’t one of the best tea rooms we’ve been to but it was fun to get together and enjoy time together. And yes I did have a hat on most of the time till it fell off…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

2. I’ve challenged myself to get moving every day instead of just the day Willow and I can get together for our walk. It has felt good to get out at 7:00 three days a week to get my heart rate going before breakfast. The other 3 days I’m trying a simple weight training routine with dumb bells.

3. There used to be a huge dirt and weed filled area behind our condominium complex. It is now a Sports Complex with 4 baseball diamonds and several full soccer fields with lots of parking and restrooms, etc. This week they laid all the grass and it will be nice to have less dust flying around here. I’m waiting for the complex to be opened up so I can get some better photos.

4. Yippee our Seattle Sounders won their game against Kansas City on Saturday so we are in the playoffs. I might even be able to go to a playoff game since it sounds like at least one of the games will be in the L.A. area and better yet my kids might come down here for that game!

5. I’m excited that my oldest son and I made arrangements this week to go to my middle son’s graduation from Academy the end of November. It wasn’t easy to find flights to get to this little town out in the middle of nowhere. I was sad that no one would be there to see Dan graduate and am relieved now that it is possible. God is good.

I Inherited Some Property 46 Years Ago…

I read this yesterday and was moved by it…

“Charles Fuller (1887-1968), a preacher and director of The Old Fashioned Revival Hour radio program, announced he was going to be speaking the next week on heaven. During that week of preparation, he received a letter from an older man who was very ill:

Next Sunday you are to talk about heaven. I am interested in that land, because I have held a clear title to a bit of property there for over 55 years. I did not buy it. It was given to me without money and without price. But the Donor purchased it for me at tremendous sacrifice. I am not holding it for speculation since it is not transferable. It is not a vacant lot. For more than half a century I have been sending materials out of which the greatest Architect and Builder of the universe has been building a home for which will never need to be remodeled or repaired because it will suit me perfectly, individually, and will never grow old. Termites can never undermine its foundations for they rest on the rock of ages. Fire cannot destroy it. Floods cannot wash it away. No locks nor bolts will ever be placed upon its doors, for no vicious person can ever enter that land where my dwelling stands, now almost completed and almost ready for me to enter in and abide in peace eternally, without fear of being ejected. There is a valley of deep shadow between the place where I live in California and that to which I shall journey in a very short time. I cannot reach my home in that City of Gold without passing through this dark valley of shadows. But I am not afraid because the best Friend I ever had went through the same valley long, long ago and drove away all its gloom. He has stuck by me through thick and thin since we first became acquainted 55 years ago, and I hold His promise in printed form, never to forsake me or leave me alone. He will be with me as I walk through the valley of shadows, and I shall not lose my way when He is with me. I hope to hear your sermon on heaven next Sunday from my home in Los Angeles, California, but I have no assurance that I shall be able to do so. My ticket to heaven has no date marked for the journey, no return coupon, and no permit for baggage. Yes, I am all ready to go and I may not be here while you are talking next Sunday evening, but I shall meet you there some day.”

I learned these verses from the Bible way back when I was in grade school. They remain some of my favorite in the Bible today. I’m sharing it in the King James Version since that is the version I used in the 50’s.

John 14:1-7 (King James Version)

1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Have a wonderful day…
