Signs…

In waiting in the backup line at the Peace Arch Border crossing from Canada to the U.S. I snapped these photos of some signs. These signs are the obvious signs that let you know you are in the good ole U.S.A.

This next photo is a different kind of sign that lets you know you are in the U.S.A.

In joining a gym with my Medicare Supplement Silver Sneakers option some muscles that have been happy being dormant are now screaming at me and not happy that they have been woken up out of their slumber. Hopefully this next week I will tame these beasts! Otherwise this week is going well. How’s your week?

Signs and Fences…

The signs and fences I’m sharing today are all from Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. taken on Friday March 18th.

We were happy to find Stanley’s at lunch time. We were still full from our hearty breakfast but after walking about we were ready for some refreshment.

van 2 095May would be another great time of year to visit Stanley Park to enjoy the Rose Gardens. I still have a post with the beautiful flowering trees we enjoyed on this day. After we had our refreshment at Stanley’s we hit the road back to the good ole U.S.A.

We have another few days of sunny weather here in the Seattle area and there are predictions of the temps getting close to 80 tomorrow!! I’m back in a pattern of walking which is a good thing. I finally got my Senior Sneakers membership card so I will head to a gym nearby to sign up and see how that goes…

What’s new for you?

Signs, signs…

Sisters wknd 108

We saw this sign on a shop in La Conner during our sister weekend. That’s my sister Kathy who we made sit down under the sign. This sign is very accurate and true about our clever sister Kathy.

While Dear and I were driving about Stanley Park in Vancouver we came to this sign. This sign can be confusing. Should you stop or should you heed the NO STOPPING sign.

Island Signs and Fences…

My favorite on this group of signs, “Falling Can Be Deadly”, so don’t fall people! This series of signs were taken at the Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island in Washington State.

Dear and I are considering a little getaway to Vancouver B.C. since the U.S. dollar is strong for a change. I hope to take lots of photos of what we see and experience. So excited that Spring is coming! How about you?

Signs and Fences with My Sisters…

Sisters wknd 096

This past weekend was our Sisters weekend in Washington State. Two sisters from Washington State and two sisters from California got together for fun and fellowship. Our sister Vera is in the midst of lots of change in her life so we thought it would be good to be together and celebrate being sisters for a weekend.

Sisters wknd 097

We started the weekend off with a Raclette meal together on Friday evening. The weather forecast for the weekend was dismal but on Saturday morning we were giddy because the sun was shining and it promised to be a day without rain. We headed north on Interstate 5 to Mount Vernon, Washington to see daffodils in bloom. We were blessed with sunshine all day long. We said thank you to God many times during the day. We had a couple of spontaneous stops before we reached our 1st planned stop in Mount Vernon, Roozengaarde, to muck about in the daffodil fields.

Sisters wknd 062

This is the entrance to a beautiful garden at Roozengaarde.  Forsythia acts as a natural fence on this side of the tailored garden at Roozengaarde. Soon this garden will be in full bloom with tulips like this photo below from last year.

The sea of yellow in the background are the rows and rows of daffodils.

Besides these signs and fences here is another teaser shot of the fields of daffodils with a fence in the background.

Today is my recuperating day after all the fun I had with my sisters. Part of recuperating will be getting back on my daily track. Hope your day is going well.

Signs, signs…

This is me and my dear daughter-in-law standing in front of a Seattle Sounders Sign at Century Link Field. We enjoy most home games together since we are season ticket holders. This weekend is the season opener and it will be an all girls day at the “Clink”.  My son will be out of town and he offered his ticket to one of my sisters who is a big sports buff and will be visiting us this weekend. My daughter, daughter in law, sister and me will fill our season seats. Now all we need is a win!

I’m happy to say that my illness has not taken the course that Dear’s took and is not as severe. I’ve had two days sitting around doing nothing and today I’ll try to get some errands taken care of. I miss my daily walks but I’ll be able to get back to those soon enough. We had some wild weather yesterday which made it a good day to stay in. My Medicare and supplemental insurance went into effect yesterday so I’m also looking at joining a gym with my Silver Sneakers to try out a Zumba class. Hopefully Zumba class isn’t in front of a mirrored wall! I hope to get some photos of the flowering trees in our neighborhood. So pretty! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Signs of my Times…

P1060253

This past week I traveled to the nearby town of Woodinville for an appointment with our accountant. Woodinville has become a very popular tourist spot for wine tasting in our state. The last two names on this sign direct you to two of many wineries. The most popular winery in Woodinville is probably Ste Michelle Winery. Another larger winery in this town is Columbia Winery. You can probably find wines from Ste Michelle on your grocery shelves.

Last night I attended my first soccer game of the year in Seattle at Century Link Field. Our Seattle Sounders played Club America, a team from Mexico in the Concacaf Champions League. This was a quarterfinal game. We will play this same team again on March 2nd in Mexico to see who moves on in the tournament. Our home opening game for the MLS season is on March 6th. The season will be in full swing starting the 6th. I have season tickets with our son, daughter in law, and daughter. Yes, we are soccer fans.

I’m signing up with Lesley at signs, signs. Thanks Lesley!

I feel like I’ve had quite the workout today. After my walk since the weather was so nice I mowed the lawn for the first time this season. I also did some cleaning up of our drive. My body is telling this old gal to sit a spell and put my feet up! I’ve got a lot of catching up to do on visiting blogs.

Signs at the Harbor

Happy Trails to you until we meet again… Did you watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans in the 50’s?

The Roy Rogers Show (“Happy Trails”)

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It’s the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here’s a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you,
Until we meet again.
Happy trails to you,
Keep smilin’ until then.

Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?
Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you,
Til we meet again.

Do you think there might be a very large sapphire on board?

These were all taken in San Diego a few years back in February of the year. Can you tell I’m a little landlocked right now?

I’m ready for a nice string of dry days here in the Pacific Northwest. Dear is on an overnight business trip to Austin, Texas and the forecast there is 79 and 80 degrees. That will be different for him. What’s happening in your neck of the woods?

I’m linking up with Lesley for signs, signs.

I’m running out the door now to try to get my walk in and I’ll “sing a song, and bring the sunny weather” while the rain is taking a pause…

Signs, signs…

Here are some more signs we saw on a recent trip to Snohomish.

Today is the beginning of lent (Ash Wednesday). We didn’t grow up observing lent. In recent years I’ve set aside time to do some readings and try different things to prepare my heart and mind thinking of the sacrifice made for me and for the grand celebration of Easter, the resurrection of my Savior. I read this quote today that made me think a bit deeper on this season of lent. I posted the quote below this collage of my Lenten Rose.

The spirit of penitence in which we enter Lent is not sheer negativity, breast-beating, self-loathing or penitence for its own sake; rather, it is a belated recognition that as friends of Christ, called and loved, and bought with a price by the Most High, we could and should start to grow up into a better way of living and a closer walk with our Saviour. – Malcolm Guite

Do you observe Lent?

More Signs from San Francisco…

This time around we didn’t get a chance to have a pint at Johnny Foley’s Irish Pub and Restaurant.

I have a full post on Old St. Mary’s Church in Chinatown here.

I am now all signed up for my Medicare and have sighed in relief to have that behind me. Now I’m getting ready to talk to my hairstylist about going grey and how she can help me transition. I figure I can always go back to color if grey is too drastic for my mirror to face. TMI? On a brighter note I’ve got some great things put together for our Chinese New Year Super Bowl Party! Here’s a blurry but bright tease…
