Notecard Party May

I’m posting some old photos from previous posts on my blog for Vee’s Notecard Party. They are all from previous trips we took to Great Britain in 2002, 2004, and 2006.

This was taken at the Hailes Abbey (a 13th century Cistercian Abbey) near Winchcombe, Gloucester, England.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 ~ β€œHe has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

This photo is from Magdalene College in Oxford, England.

Yorkminster in York, England. Photo taken from stairwell in the minster. The roofing material is sheets of lead.

Hollows Farm in the Borrowdale Valley, Lake District, England.

All of these photos were taken before I had a digital camera. I didn’t turn off the date stamp on some of them, either. Oh how I’m looking forward to our return trip to Great Britain in September with my digital camera.

The middle of May already. Do you have plans for Memorial Day Weekend? We are hanging out at home as Dear leaves for a conference the following week to Chicago. I’m staying home for that conference…

  1. I’ve never been to England so I think these are very special scenes! We don’t make many big plans. We just take off on the days it’s nice and drive around! Enjoy your week! Sweet hugs!

  2. Oh you and your digital camera will have a grand time revisiting these scenes. You did very well the old-fashioned way. They are wonderful and I appreciate the perspectives you used.

  3. Hi Ellen,

I’m so glad you visited my blog; when I read your comment, I thought “She must have pics from England, too.” It’s so funny that neither of us had digital cameras. πŸ™‚ What wonderful places you visited! I’ve always wanted to visit an abbey, and your photo of the Lake Country farm is gorgeous. Isn’t York Minster awesome? I’d also like to visit York, as it was the original capitol of England and so much history there.

I see that you’re going back to England in September — Lucky you!! I really hope to go back someday, but we’ll just have to see. I like your blog, Ellen; you seem like such an interesting and upbeat person. I enjoyed reading your profile; congratulations to your daughter and new son-in-law. I’ll pray for his safety while in Afghanistan; we owe so much to the men and women fighting overseas for our freedoms. I noticed they were married in Jacksonville, North Carolina. I’m a native North Carolinian; I’ve lived here all my life.

Thanks again for your visit and have a wonderful day!

  4. I really enjoyed your shots of England. I felt like I was there! Magnificent architecture. Enjoy your trip in September with your digital camera — what fun you’ll have!

  5. England is definitely on my list of places to visit. Your photos are beautiful, especially the shot of the cathedral roof. Such amazing architecture created without the tools we take for granted now. Your upcoming trip with a digital camera will provide great blog fodder.

  6. Another British set of notecards! I love it. I love England! These are beautiful photos. I had a SLR film camera on our trip there in ’92 so photos were selectively taken. Great choices for your notecards. Blessings, Pamela

  7. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

I am headed to England and Scotland for the first time ever in August! I want to see it all but I know I can’t! Any suggestions?

  8. Seems that so many girls have been to England with the lovely cards this month featuring places over there! Yours are exceptional, especially the one from Yorkminster…..great capture of the roof!

  9. England has so much of interest for a photographer and the images from your trips are proof of that Ellen!
The magnificent architecture and old ruins are a wonder to behold.
A beautiful set of note cards to send to friends!
