Finding Beauty…

Short and sweet this week. This shot was one of many I took last Saturday at the Japanese Gardens in Seattle.

Hope you found some beauty in your world this week. Visit Claudia at Dipity Road to see more beauty. She has lots of sweet bunnies to show you…

Seattle Rubies…

On Monday we hit some familiar spots in Downtown Seattle because we have a visitor from Florida staying with us.

We spotted Ruby Tuesday gems around every corner…

This duo was so talented we stopped to listen and tipped them.

Umm…this is an eagle?

For more Ruby Tuesday please visit Mary at Work of the Poet.

She’s Flying the Coop!

Flying north to spend some time with my mijas and mijos! I’ll be here, there, and everywhere so I don’t know how much time I’ll have to be on the computer. We’re having an Open House/Party for our son Dan on Friday night that I’ll be spending time preparing for. Dan departs on Saturday and then we’re having an out of town guest arrive on Saturday for a few days. We might have a Superbowl party at our house on Sunday. I’m looking forward to seeing that controversial commercial. Just be assured I haven’t disappeared off the face of the blogisphere. I’ll be back soon with lots of news to share.

WFW ~ Psalm 104: 1-4

Psalm 104

O LORD My God, You Are Very Great

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, you are very great!
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
2covering yourself with light as with a garment,
stretching out the heavens like a tent.
3He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters;he makes the clouds his chariot;
he rides on the wings of the wind;
4he makes his messengers winds,
his ministers a flaming fire.

Like a Bird Flying South…

Dear and I boarded a flight at Seatac Airport on Sunday afternoon to LAX with very little Security issues and once again made the comment …
“Flying out of Seattle is so nice compared to other airports”!! I got this shot of Rainier before everything clouded over!

Then we talked to our seating companion who flew out of Canada to the U.S. and told us he had to go through 4 security screenings and then had to have a full body search. He couldn’t have anything under the seat in front of him except for a size restricted personal bag, no carry on luggage.  So flying into the U.S. is a bit tough right now…

We arrived in L.A. and made it back to the condo in great time hardly ever needing to use our brakes which is a good thing because our brake lights were not working! Thank you to my sister Kathy and our BIL Len being brave enough to deliver that car without brake lights to us at the airport.

Dear caught a icky bug and is under the weather so I had to pick him up from work early today. I was able to pick up the part we needed for the car and it’s working beautifully now so I’ll make a visit to the CHP tomorrow and have them OK the repair so we don’t have to pay a fine. Oh right I forgot to tell you that over the Christmas break my brother from Dallas was using our car and got a ticket for not having brake lights. Ouch! We had no idea the brake lights weren’t working when we loaned him the car…

Today I’ve enjoyed the lovely winter skies here in Camarillo. Sunny and warm with great clouds. Tomorrow Willow and I will resume our walks! Yippee! So much to catch up on. Dear cleaned the condo real nice before he came north so I don’t have much to do around here. Hope you all are getting in the swing of things in 2010!

A Great Reason to Celebrate…

…our daughter Katie completed her coursework for her degree from University of Washington!

A wonderful reason to don the Oscar de la Renta and go out on the town…

We chose to celebrate at Palisade Restaurant at the waterfront on Elliott Bay…

The views of Seattle were great and the food and company were lovely…

Dear, Ellen b., Katie, Josh, Laura, Steve, and Lana G!

Friday’s Fave Five ~ Brrr…

Welcome to another Friday. It’s time to join Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to share your favorites from this past week!

1. My house is Christmatized. I sometimes dread the process but I love the result. The biggest thing is getting the tree in and decorated. I love the smell of the tree. It’s so nice to sit in the living room with just the lights of the tree and other decorations. I could have decorated more but I am satisfied with what is done.

2. We finally filled the Cd player with some of our favorite Christmas Cd’s and I’ve really enjoyed having the music fill the house. Some of our favorites are Twila Paris –It’s the Thought, Nat King Cole –The Christmas Song, Amy Grant, Selections from Handel’s Messiah, and The Holly and The Ivy-Clare College Choir-Cambridge.

3. Spending lots of time with my daughter. It’s been good. Next week is her last week of college (everyone join us in this cheer “Hip Hip Hooray we no longer have to pay!”) We are happy to see her complete her degree and finish well. This last month has brought some major changes in Katie’s life and it’s good to see her Joy return.

4. It has been freezing in Western Washinton for several days in a row. We are breaking electric and gas consumption records around here. See my icicles coming from the end of my hose? All of that to say that Katie and I were at Fred Meyer yesterday and spotted an end cap display of Snuggie’s. We succombed to the need for warmth and bought a Snuggie! I always laughed at those commercials but now we’re fighting over who gets the Snuggie! A Snuggie or Snuglie is a blanket with sleeves.

5. On Monday night I went to watch our son Josh play an indoor soccer game. He has been playing on a recreational team with some former teammates from high school. It was so much fun to see these boys young men again after 10 years. Lots of hugs and news to share. I spent so many years sitting/standing on the sidelines watching these boys play from elementary to high school. Good times…

Oops…the Poinsettia’s at the top of the post are from Molbak’s Nursery in Woodinville. They always have an amazing display at Christmas of many varieties and they always construct a huge Poinsettia tree. I think I have to go back and take a few more photos…

I’ll be coming around to see what your week held for you. Today I’m braving the cold for a little adventure that I hope will yield some great photos!

MLS Cup Final 2009 ~ Qwest Field Seattle

On Sunday afternoon my son drove us downtown to attend the Major League Soccer Cup Final being held at Qwest Field. It was a beautiful night for soccer. Very cold but not a drop of rain fell on us during the pre-game festivities and the game.

Seattle was putting on a good show with just enough sunshine to make it glow.

It’s time for Major League Soccer in Seattle!

Josh, Beau, Jan and I were the happy ticket holders for the evening. The Seattle Sounders Season tickets included a ticket for this game.

I was able to get some photos of Josh with a couple Sounders. This is Roger Levesque, one of our favorite players!

It’s always fun to participate in the “march to the match” where hundreds of people carrying their flags and scarves walk together to Qwest field from Occidental Park with the Sounders band leading the way.

Josh with Leo Gonzalez a great defender for the Sounders.

After the march we headed straight to our favorite taco truck to get some yummy street tacos. You just can’t beat 3 asada tacos with onion and cilantro for $5.

Even though the Sounders were not in the final the stadium was filled with green. There was a good section of Real Salt Lake supporters in red, blue and gold and a section of L.A. Galaxy supporters wearing the blue, white and gold. I have to say that it was nice just cheering on good soccer and not being all worked up over a certain team winning…

I love Seattle at night!

There were 46,011 people in attendance for this game. I’m sure we set a MLS Cup record for attendance with that number!

If it’s confetti…it must be game time!

Just in case you don’t recognize him this is David Beckham. There are people who bad mouth him but you cannot argue the fact that he has a beautiful touch on the ball! He really is a talented soccer player and he looks pretty good, too.

Landon Donovan is another great soccer player. He was the Honda Player of the Year. He also plays for the U.S. Soccer team so you’ll see him at World Cup in Africa 2010. He didn’t have a great night in the finals and he missed his penalty shot in the shoot-out. I’m sure he was very disappointed. I hate to see games go to Penalty kicks!!! Drives me nuts.

Galaxy did get to celebrate after this goal before Real Salt Lake tied it up.

I don’t have a photo of Real Salt Lake celebrating their victory but they did win after 2 overtime periods and then a penalty shot shoot-0ut. Congratulations to Real Salt Lake, their fans who came out in number, and their great goal keeper, Nick Rimando!

Nick Rimando

Sheesh! That was a lot of photos. If you made it all the way to the end, Congratulations!

Friday’s Fave Five ~ Pacific Northwest…

Time to look back over the last week and remember things we are thankful for. Please visit Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to join in with this great exercise.

Wow it’s hard to believe I’ve been in the Seattle area for almost a week already. So many favorites to share from this past week.

1. Spending time with 3 out of 4 of our children. Our daughter Katie picked me up from the airport and we stopped for lunch at the Corner Cafe in Bothell where my sister Lana G! met us for lunch. Then on Sunday I met up with our son Josh and our DIL Laura at church. What an amazing service…I needed my hankie the whole time. Later in the day Josh and Laura came by for a couple hours. I got to speak on the phone with our son Dan and hear he’s doing well at Academy. He graduates on November 30th. Good times…

2. Getting some things done around the house that really needed to be done. Katie and I got the lawn mower started and I was able to mow most of the lawn before the big storm rolled in. Got soaked the last 15 minutes of mowing :0). I’m tackling one room a day inside to get a much needed deep clean done around here before Thanksgiving company arrive. I’m pleased that the guest room is ready and on Thursday I got the living room done which included dusting all these books and bookshelves!!

and the Guest Room. The couch has a very comfortable full size pull out mattress.

3. Walking in the sunshine along the Sammamish River trail with my friend Beth. Beth and Dave became our good friends through the friendship of our son Dan and their son Jamie that started in 2nd grade. That was over 20 years ago!!

4. Finding the recipe for this soup on a bloggy friend’s site and making it for dinner on Thursday night. This is a tasty soup and so easy to make!! Just scroll on down to the post after this one for the recipe and instructions.

5. Looking forward to seeing more of my Northwest friends. Hopefully walking with my buddies Jody and Jan on Saturday. Then looking forward to Dear joining me here on Tuesday along with our Thanksgiving company my brother Tim and his wife Letty. The room is ready Tim and Letty!!

And a bonus looking forward to…

My son Josh invited me to tag along with him to the MLS Championship Cup Game at Qwest Field on Sunday night! L.A. Galaxy is playing Real Salt Lake for the title. We’ll be sporting our Seattle Sounder Colors and making these teams feel welcomed in the Great Northwest! Since my other home is in Southern California and I was born in East Los Angeles I’ll be cheering L.A. Galaxy on to the victory!!
