Outdoor Wednesday ~ Castlerigg Stones in Britain

Castlerigg is one of the most beautiful stone circles in Britain, set in a splendid position, in an open field crowned by the Lake District’s mountains, 213m (700ft) above sea level. It is thought to be one of the earliest circles in Britain, and it dates from around 3000 BC.
Thirty-eight stones are placed in an slightly oval shape of 30m (100ft) in diameter; a further 10 small stones are arranged as a rectangular enclosure on the south-east side of the ring: this is a feature unique to Castlerigg, nothing similar being present in other stone circles. The largest stone of the circle, not far from the enclosure, is 2.5m (8ft 3in) high and it weighs about 16 tons: most of the others, much smaller, are 1 to 1.5m (3-5ft) high. At the north of the ring is an entrance marked by two slightly bigger stones, and about 90m (295ft) to the south-west, by a stile at the edge of the field, is a single outlying stone, 0.9m (3ft) high.

We were in this part of England and at this sight in May of 2006. The Lake District was a beautiful place to walk. I’m really itching to get back to Great Britain now that I’ve learned a few things through blogging about taking photographs :0)

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage unless I pay them a lot of money. I’m slowly cleaning up many posts from this time period and deleting their ugly grey and black boxes with a ransom request. Such a time consuming bother.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Walks and Birds!

Susan at A Southern Day Dreamer started Outdoor Wednesday where you can post any outdoor photos you’d like to share.

My outdoor photos this week were taken Saturday at the beach and Tuesday on a walk with my bloggy friend Willow.

These little Sanderlings are so much fun to watch because they move really quickly all together.

On Saturday it seemed like the SeaGulls wanted to fly right at my camera.

We have seen lots of Pelicans flying just above the water on our walks. This is the first one we’ve seen just resting on the sand.

It’s been raining in Southern California for a few days now so on our walk today Willow and I saw this waterfall that we generally do not see during most of our dry days here.

Quail are the State Bird for California and we saw a nice little group of them. Such a great looking bird.

Usually these little birds flit about so much I can’t get a photo but this group decided to sit still long enough for me to click away.

More evidence of our rain here. This little run-off creek is generally bone dry on our walks but today it was babbling quite nicely for us!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ The Birds!

Outdoor Wednesday is hosted by Susan at A Southern Daydreamer. My outdoor photos this week are taken on 3 separate walks during the month of January.

Willow and I see this Dove pretty regularly on our walks in her neighborhood.

One day the Dove wasn’t there and we understood why when we saw this hawk instead.

Dear and I spotted this great Heron on our walk on the Bob Jones Trail in Avila, California on January 19th.

Outdoor Wednesday

Susan at A Southern Day Dreamer is starting a new photography meme on Wednesdays called Outdoor Wednesday. All you have to do is post something you took a picture of out of doors. My first photos are both taken at night over the last couple weeks just outside my condo.

This first one was taken on a foggy evening. Kind of eerie…

Then this last Saturday night the moon was full and seemed so close…

Photobucket is holding all my photos from 2007 to 2015 hostage and has replaced them all with ugly black and grey boxes asking for a ransom to have them re-published. Such a frustrating bother as I go through each post to delete the ugly boxes.
