I Love to Sing of That Great Power ~ Hymn

I Love to Sing of that Great Power

I love to sing of that great Power
That made the earth and sea;
But better still, I love the song
Of Jesus died for me.

I love to sing of shrub and flower,
Of field and plant and tree;
But sweeter note for ever is,
That Jesus died for me.

I love to think of angels’ songs,
From sin and sorrow free;
But angels cannot strike their notes
To Jesus died for me.

I love to speak of God, of Heaven,
And all its purity;
God is my Father, Heaven my home,
For Jesus died for me.

And when I reach that happy place,
From all temptation free,
I’ll tune my ever rapturous notes
With Jesus died for me.

Truth for Today #2

Thursday January 13

On Thursdays my posts will include verses that stood out in my readings from the Bible during the week. One, two, three or maybe more. If you have a verse/verses that you read during the week and would like share, leave it/them in the comments and I will add it/them to the post. Let’s dig deep in God’s Truth this year!

2 Peter 1: 16-21

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father , and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 55: 9-11

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty, but it will accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

From Maristella:

Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

From Vera:

Jeremiah 9:23-24

“Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

From Winneyb:

Psalm 27:1-5 (AMP)

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life—
Whom shall I dread?

When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.

Though an army encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
Even in this I am confident.

One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that I will seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life,
To gaze upon the beauty [the delightful loveliness and majestic grandeur] of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.

From Nikkipolani:

Psalm 50:3

Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

From HappyOne (Karen)

Job 19:25

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.

From Cheryl:

Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

From Willow:

Isaiah 41:10.

Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Isaiah 40:26 ~ Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

2 Timothy 2:19 ~ But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”

Philippians 3:20 ~ But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

From Sue:

Philippians 3:20 ~ But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

From Vera:

“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭9:12-17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Whenever I see a rainbow not only does it remind me of this promise but it also reminds me that God is so trustworthy.”

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah ~ Hymn

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
[or Guide me, O Thou great Redeemer…]
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
Bread of Heaven, Bread of Heaven,
Feed me till I want no more;
Feed me till I want no more.

Feed me with the heavenly manna,
In this barren wilderness;
Be my sword, and shield, and banner—
Be my robe of righteousness.
Fight and conquer, fight and conquer
All my foes by sovereign grace,
All my foes by sovereign grace.*

Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
Be Thou still my strength and shield;
Be Thou still my strength and shield.

Lord, I trust Thy mighty power,
Wondrous are Thy works of old;
Thou deliver’st Thine from thralldom,
Who for naught themselves had sold:
Thou didst conquer, Thou didst conquer,
Sin, and Satan and the grave,
Sin, and Satan and the grave.

When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee;
I will ever give to Thee.

Musing on my habitation,
Musing on my heav’nly home,
Fills my soul with holy longings:
Come, my Jesus, quickly come;
Vanity is all I see;
Lord, I long to be with Thee!
Lord, I long to be with Thee!

Happy Birthday Jesus 2021!

We woke up on Christmas morning to a little more snow and with lots of anticipation of the day ahead.

Andrew and Katie drove over the Pass on Thursday and on to Idaho to spend Christmas Eve with Andrew’s dad.  At 9am on Christmas morning they left Idaho for our house and pulled into our driveway close to noon.

On Christmas Eve we learned that Josh and Laura’s flight on Christmas Day was cancelled. They made the quick decision to drive instead. They left their home at 8am on Christmas day and we waited on pins and needles hoping that Snoqualmie Pass would stay open. The Pass stayed open and they had a beautiful drive pulling into our driveway at 2:30 ish.

We enjoyed some soup and naan and hummus as we waited for Dan, Jamie, Addy and JJ to arrive after naps.

We were all excited to see them pull into the drive, too. They brought dessert, a Happy Birthday Jesus Cake that Jamie and Addy baked.

Since dinner wasn’t quite ready we decided to open presents before we sat down to eat. We started with the youngest and worked our way up in the gift opening process.

We interrupted our gift opening for Christmas dinner. The Prime Rib was carved, the vegetables were roasted, the creamed corn was hot and the Yorkshire Pudding was out of the oven. Time to sit down and enjoy our meal.

Family photo and on to opening the rest of the presents!

JJ painted this for Baba!

After all the presents were opened we had our dessert and continued to enjoy our time together thankful for each other and the love we share.

Dan, Jamie and the kids left for home and the rest of us decompressed for awhile and headed to bed. On Sunday we had a full day together starting with church and then lunch and dinner at Dan and Jamie’s home.

I’ve got catch up posts from our time together as a family before our kids drove back to the West side of the mountains that will have to wait till next week. Both couples made it home safely with no incidents. We are so thankful for that and don’t take it for granted.

We decided on cancelling our Welcoming 2022 open house here after church on January 2nd. We just got a forecast for 4 more inches of snow on Sunday and we are concerned about our guests safety traveling and walking on our drive up to our door. Too much slipping and sliding around here. We will try again hopefully before Spring for our event!

Glory to God in the Highest

The Word Made Flesh

The Son of God in mighty love,
Came down to Bethlehem for me;
Forsook His throne of light above,
An infant on the earth to be.

In love, the Father’s sinless child,
Sojourned at Nazareth for me;
With sinners dwelt the undefiled,
The Holy One in Galilee.

Jesus, whom angel hosts adore,
Became a man of griefs for me;
In love, though rich, becoming poor,
That I through Him enriched might be.

Thou Lord of all, above, below,
He went to Olivet for me;
There drank my cup of wrath and woe,
When bleeding in Gethsemane.

The ever blessèd Son of God
Went up to Calvary for me;
There paid my debt, there bore my load,
In His own body on the tree.

Jesus, whose dwelling is the skies,
Went down into the grave for me;
There overcame my enemies,
There won the gracious victory.

In love the whole dark path He trod,
To consecrate a way for me;
Each bitter footstep marked with blood,
From Bethlehem to Calvary.

’Tis finished all; the veil is rent,
The welcome sure, the access free;
Now then we leave our banishment,
O Father, to return to Thee.

Words: Horatius Bonar, 1843.

The words on the cross say, “Glory to God in the Highest”.

Dear and I will enjoy a meal together before we head out for a candlelight service this evening at our church. Tomorrow all our kids arrive at our place for Christmas day festivities.

Happy Christmas Eve to you all.

More Snow and Christmas

Our round of snow early in the morning of the 22nd created an interesting layering. On our Global Blue Spruce it looks like someone placed kitchen towels out to dry. Or maybe white skirts with scalloped bottoms. Or a layer of Fondant Frosting. 🙂

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…

It is very safe to say we are going to have a White Christmas. Maybe we’ll have a snow shoveling day when the kids get here on Christmas.

We will pick up our roast for our Christmas dinner today and a few other things we need for our Christmas dinner and for our daughter’s birthday dinner on the 27th. Our Colville kids are feeding all of us on Boxing Day. We haven’t all been together since the wedding in North Carolina so we are excited for Christmas Day when all the vehicles pull into our drive.

Joy

Joy in all that Christmas means to humanity.

It’s a joy to hear from friends and family with cards and letters at Christmas.

Joy Bells Are Ringing

Joy bells are ringing,
Christmas is bringing
Tidings of Jesus’ birth.
Candles are gleaming,
Gladness is streaming
Out over all the earth.

Light is ascending,
Nighttime is ending,
Sunshine from God appears.
Hope of the ages,
Foretold by sages,
Comes to dispel all fears.

O what a treasure
God in His pleasure
Lovingly gives today.
Grace to the lowly,
Peace, pure and holy,
Angels to men convey.

Come to the manger,
Kindred and stranger,
Hail now the newborn King!
In adoration
With jubilation
Peoples and nations sing!

Banish all sadness,
Fill me with gladness,
Jesus, whom I adore!
All else may perish,
Thee will I cherish
Now and forevermore!

Words: Nils Frykman, 1881.

So my peppermint bark was a fail. The white layer did not adhere to the chocolate layer, oops. The Peanut Butter Balls turned out like they should but I’m not sure if I’d make them again. I’ll let the kids weigh in when they arrive later this week. We are waiting to see if we get more snow overnight.

Happy Winter everyone!

O Come, All Ye Faithful

O Come, All Ye Faithful

O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye,
To Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of angels;

Refrain

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

True God of true God
Light from Light Eternal,
Lo, He shuns not
The Virgin’s womb;
Son of the Father,
Begotten, not created;

Refrain

Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation;
O sing, all ye citizens
Of heaven above!
Glory to God, all
Glory in the highest;

Refrain

See how the shepherds,
Summoned to His cradle,
Leaving their flocks,
Draw nigh to gaze;
We too will thither
Bend our joyful footsteps;

Refrain

Lo! star led chieftains,
Magi, Christ adoring,
Offer Him incense,
Gold, and myrrh;
We to the Christ Child
Bring our hearts’ oblations.

Refrain

Child, for us sinners
Poor and in the manger,
We would embrace Thee,
With love and awe;
Who would not love Thee,
Loving us so dearly?

Refrain

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing.

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
