Make Me Understand
Give me a sight, O Savior!
Of Thy wondrous love to me,
Of the love that brought Thee down to earth
To die on Calvary.
Refrain
O make me understand it!
Help me to take it in!
What it meant to Thee, the Holy One,
To bear away my sin.
Was it the nails, O Savior!
That bound Thee to the tree?
Nay, ’twas Thine everlasting love,
Thy love for me, for me.
Refrain
O wonder of all wonders!
That through Thy death for me
My open sins, my secret sins,
Can all forgiven be.
Refrain
Then melt my heart, O Savior!
Bend me, yea, break me down
Until I own Thee Conqueror,
And Lord and Sovereign crown.
Refrain
Words: Katherine A. M. Kelly, (1869-1942)
…Ellen, I hope that this will be a wonderful day for you.
I was over at a friend’s house last night and she had some music playing, and they words were so beautiful, helped by a phenomenal singer…”Teach me your ways and make me understand, incline my ear to hear your wise command. Cause me to walk in ways of truth and right, and make your law my principle delight. Unreachably high is your wisdom o God, your judgements we find reassuring. Your words is a source of unending wonder, your sayings of truth are enduring.” I came home singing those words and the music will stay with me.
Beautiful and true words to sing…thank you for taking the time to share them here.
I’m not familiar with this hymn but the words are wonderful.
