Blue Monday ~ Blessing or a Curse?

For Blue Monday I wanted to share some good advice from Proverbs in the Old Testament. Visit Sally to see more Blues…

I love this little water color sketch I bought for my daughter years ago from Goodwill with this verse on it. We still get a big kick out of it. Kindness can be shown in very creative ways like understanding the difference between “morning people” and “night people”.

Have a great week!

Wolf Moon Grand Opening!

For my combination of Mosaic Monday and Blue Monday I have photos of the Grand Opening of the Sports Complex behind our Neighborhood.

It’s hard to make out the wolf moon from the sports field lights in the center picture. The fields were full of activity into the night after the Grand Opening began at 4:00 P.M.

“Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the Moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year. Here is the Farmers Almanac’s list of the full Moon names.

Full Wolf Moon – January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January’s full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.”

After getting some photos we decided to return during the daylight hours on Sunday.

I took this shot through the Baseball backstop. There are no baseball teams practicing here till Spring. Right now it’s all Soccer. There are 3 baseball diamonds and more soccer fields then we could count. At least 12 and probably more portable soccer fields of play.

Lots of blue teams and blue accessories for Blue Monday!

Here’s what the field looked like before the Sports Complex was started. And this next photo was taken today…

We are so pleased they protected and showcased this great old California Oak Tree. This next shot was taken back in January of 2008.

A beautiful winter day in Southern California…

Thank you Mary for hosting Mosaic Monday and thank you Sally for hosting Blue Monday!

Blue Monday ~ Beach and Antiques!

Time to visit Sally who is always smiling for Blue Monday!

We took a trip to Ventura on Saturday to see the surf and couldn’t help stopping to visit some thrift stores and an Antique store going out of business on Main Street. Here’s what I couldn’t leave behind for 50% off…

Have a good week everyone!

Family Blues…

On Sunday I drove across Los Angeles to my sister’s house for a family gathering in honor of Avery and Jackson’s  grandparent’s from Michigan. Avery is my sister Kathy’s granddaughter and Jackson is Avery’s big brother. Jackson and Avery’s grandparents flew out to meet Avery and spend some time with both of them.

Is there any doubt that this is Avery’s father… Look at the shape of their eyes…

The great grandparents (my parents) were also there to enjoy the festivities.

My sister Kathy with Avery(Jackson and Avery’s nana), my sister Vera, MLou (Avery and Jackson’s grandmother from Michigan), and Ellen b.

It was so much fun to finally meet MLou in person. We have interacted with each other for a long time via my blog and Facebook.

Mosaic Blues ~ Standing in Awe…

We have been back in Southern California for a week already and we had the great privilege of enjoying the beauty of Emma Wood State Beach on Saturday morning. We are aware here in Southern California that we are one of the only parts of the U.S. not caught in the grip of Global Warming, umm the deep freeze. Today my mosaics will be linked to Mosaic Monday hosted by Mary at the Little Red House and Blue Monday hosted by Smiling Sally in Florida. Even Sally is experiencing the cold in Florida!!

Psalm 33:6-8 (English Standard Version)

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the LORD;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

Have a good week everyone and stay cozy…

Oh and lest I forget to spread the news

Then & Now…

A personal mosaic this week and since I’m wearing my signature blue jeans I’ll join in with Blue Monday, too. I noticed that I place my hands the same way for a posed photo even after 50 years! Made me chuckle.

I was out late last night in downtown Seattle enjoying the U.S. Major League Soccer Championship at Qwest field. I’ll post some photos later but in the meantime it’s just me and my pose. I won’t be around next Monday because of travels. See you all later…

Montebello Dear Old High ~

It’s almost Monday so it’s time to post mosaics for Mosaic Monday with Mary at Little Red House and post something blue for Blue Monday with Sally at Smiling Sally!

On Thursday last week I met 2 of my sisters at the high school we all graduated from for a Homecoming Reunion BBQ. The school was unveiling a 100 year celebration mural and giving tours of the school culminating with a BBQ and entertainment from the band and Cheer Squads. Our high school colors were and are blue and gold so it was easy to have lots of blue to show you.

Early in Montebello’s history there were oil derricks on the hills that surround Montebello, that is where the Oilers came from. Our school newspaper was Derrick Diary. Our mascots were Ollie the Olive.

This next photo was taken in 1968 of a group of my friends standing in the same courtyard that I took one of the photos in the mosaic above. You can see that the building hasn’t changed except for some fresh paint.

Didn’t we dress reasonably back in the 60’s for school? :0)

The Auditorium is exactly the same and the lockers are the same but the courtyard with the blue umbrellas is new.

After they unveiled the new mural the pep squads let helium balloons go up into the sky.

This was just downright scary to watch. I kept wanting to yell “CATCH HER!”

Have a great week everyone!
